Back in the late 70's and into the turn of the century I used to visit Prescott's Hardware and Sheet Metal store in Artesia. A small family owned business that served the area from 1928 - 2021. Was a cool little hardware store that you could find stuff that the big box stores didn't have.

When I was restoring my Whaler I was in SA Location often . . . when I built my teak hatch and seat I bought silicon bronze screws there . . . those were pricey back then . . . can't imagine what they are now . . . was well worth it.

I haven't found Mcfaddendale to be expensive when you look at your other options. HD, Lowes, Ace hardware will always be more expensive. If you're buying 1 or 2 bolts a store close to home makes sense. When you start buying in bulk or need special hardware, Mcfaddendale is the place to go. They also have a bunch of cool stuff hidden behind the counter. You just gotta ask. Also to you don't get the HD or Lowes crowd jackasses or fat mexican chick with 5 kids blocking an aisle there.

About 60 years ago Leo and Marvin opened Orvac (Fullerton) and Marvac electronics. Then they bought out ABC Electronics in La Habra. When Jackie and Kenny (JK) retired in Westminster, they bought thenm out too. Sadly they died an old age. Newer owner of JK is a good guy, battling online sales has hurt them. I have used JK and Marvac in Costa Mesa for 50 + years. The best. Mc Fadden-Dale, named for the two streets where they opened the forst store decades ago, is in Corona, and even Las Vegas.

Here's the way I've looked at it, G&J was the go to for building a car that looked like it had been in barn since after the war. Aircraft Spruce was where I'd go to make it look like the guy had only been home for a year, using his new skills.

G&J was better for the hoarder dust and cosmoline smell.

For anything marine there’s an ace hardware that’s an ace industrial hardware in Long Beach I believe it’s on Anaheim west of the 710 freeway. Deal with all the marine industry in Long Beach Harbor they have bronze bolts brass bolts and everything known to man stainless some big stuff Deal with all the rain industry in Long Beach Harbor they have bronze bolts brass bolts , stainless some big stuf.

there’s also an ace industrial hardware in the city of commerce but not as much nonferrous bolts and things of that sort like this one in Long Beach.
