I did a search and did come up with some threads on LG washers and dryers.

My wife wants to get a new more efficient washer and dryer. We went to Lowe's yesterday and were looking at the Maytag units.

My wife really likes the 5.3 cubic foot top load washer seen here:

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Maytag-5-3-cu-ft-High-Efficiency-Top-Load-Washer-White-ENERGY-STAR/50371128

And the matching 8.8 cubic foot dryer seen here:

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Maytag-8-8-cu-ft-Gas-Dryer-White/50385504

Both units are on sale until Sept 13th and believe both offer mail in rebates. Anyone have experience with these Maytag units?

We had to purchase a new washer last November. Went with a Maytag from Lowes. Had to return it in less than 3 weeks after 3 service calls. Would load with water but then do nothing. Service Tech tried to say all you need to do is reset with some combination of button pushing and turning of the dial, yeah, NO.

As I said, we returned it and replaced it with a Samsung and it has not missed a beat. Three months later the old dryer died and we replaced it with the companion dryer, again, has not missed a beat. Really happy with the Samsung products.

We wanted to stay 'American' with Maytag but it just wasn't meant to be.

We have the LG top load washer and it is always kicking in to the UE (Uneven load)cycle, which means it tries 2 or 3 times to even itself out by refilling the tub with water and mixing around the clothes. It never works you end wasting water and time and then end up having to open the lid move the clothes around and hope for the best. In talking with the service guy that came out his recommendation is stay away from top loaders period and go with a front loader. Just sayin'
Good luck with the hunt RR.

I had always heard to stay away from the front loaders as the bearings go out quite often.

Also we do not have the agitator that comes up the center of the tub in our washer. I think most of the new ones at least have a modified agitator which might make a huge difference on the top loaders.

The ones my wife likes does not have an agitator. I think I am enough of an agitator that she doesn't want one in her washer. :D

Our LG front loader is like 8 years old and we've never done one thing to it.
Runs like new.

Rich... I just bought the same Maytag washer and dryer (Electric Dryer) for the NC house. So far the wife loves them. The dryer is really really large so double check the space in your laundry area.

We bought the Maytag top load & matching dryer at Lowes about 1 year ago. No problems so far. 2 things though, no short wash cycle & the Dryer buzzs at the cycle end, but not the washer. Your wife will appreciate the hand wash cycle for delicates.

Yes, we noticed the dryer is HUGE and have verified there is plenty of room in the garage.

Good information and thanks. My wife did notice the hand wash cycle. Strange that there is no buzzer when the wash cycle is complete.

We've had the Kenmore Elite front loading pair for about 8-9 years now without any issues.
To me it's a crap shoot on what you get and now that I posted this reply mine is probably going to take a shit...:grumble:

Our Maytag's were bought new in 1992. The dryer I replaced the felt rim from the back of the drum. The washer I have replaced the plastic bushings at the motor 1 time and the bushings in the agitator of the drum 2x. Other than that, they just work.

Samsungs are great if you want a TV. :D My first Samsung front loader dryer we lemoned it after about 2.5 years and numerous repairs. Sears replaced it was another Samsung. The matching Samsung washer was shit canned a couple years later after the electronics took a dump and water compromised the motherboard and shit. I now have a mismatched Maytag washer (works great) and Samsung dryer. They all suck donkey balls. :grumble:

My maytags have been bad ass. That particular unit is cheaper at HD this week I think, please verify. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Maytag-5...sher-in-White-ENERGY-STAR-MVWB835DW/205875252 . Nevermind, sale price refreshed, I think they are same at each place, just make sure same free services. Also, HD will price match any national ad. Here is the trick, find the lowest price you can, even if it doesn't include delivery/install/etc. HD will match it and that stuff is included, so you get a double dip. So whether its maytag or or any other brand, its a good strategy. I have maytag myself again that has been awesome on both, top loader as well as I have heard all the issues people had with front loader. :thumbsup

I was reading info on SpeedQueen's website and there is mention of more Government regulation for washing machines in 2018. Not sure exactly what it is but guessing tighter water restrictions:rolleyes. My machine is a year old and working fine but might get a SpeedQueen depending on what the govt. fuktards are up to

I had always heard to stay away from the front loaders as the bearings go out quite often.

The bearing in the 10 year old bottom of the line crappo fridgidaire front loader I just took apart (because it was tiny, beat, and the drain strainer was packed so solid with legos and other shit that it wouldn't function any more) had pretty stout main bearing...like you'd expect to see as a wheel bearing on a larger front wheel drive car. I can't see them failing prematurely.

I replaced it and the dryer with a scratch and dent set of LG stuff from SearsOutlet...it's been 2 months, and so far, I'm extremely happy with them. Can't comment on the Maytag stuff. If you have the capability to install yourself, and your wife isn't making it a centerpiece fixture in the house (so that a few dings/dents won't bother her)...check out Sears Outlet. Same warranty, but I got out the door for a bit less than $1300 with both machines, vs the "new" sale price of about $1950 out the door at all the box stores.

doing away with knobs, they all have to be electronic controlled.

That's good to hear. Like I said, I had always heard that the bearing goes out prematurely.

sad but true and seems like most people like the added features.
