Seconds after this photo was taken, we crashed. Contrary to what one certain driver thinks, we did not loose our steering in T#1 of the Men's Open. A split second decision was made to beach our race boat in the weeds at 50MPH in fear of seriously injuring another skier.

Hat's off to the REAL hero and winner of that race, driver Bruce Monroe.

I do not know why a black flag was not thrown as soon as the incident happened. I am sure it was a time line thing, right?

Thank god for those reeds. More than 1 boat has made a bee line to those reeds. The boat looked like it had a lot of water in it when you got towed in, looked like it was sitting low in the water.

So what's the story? Curious to hear what happened, why Bruce did what he did and how is the boat now?

Just a small clarification. Denny was observing (he was driving his own boat #197 in most of the other races of the weekend) in Bob Grande's boat with Bruce Monroe driving. The move was intentional to avoid another skier.

Beyond that, what's most important is that all are safe.

Bruce Monrone and Denny were Okay at the time of the crash about 100 feet into the weeds. The boat was on trees, rocks and alot of weeds. Bruce Okay at the time but after about 30 in the 116 heat we transported him in rescue 1 to the beach on O2 and alot of water. He was find after he was out of the heat and on land. The boat men powder was about 30 poeple to get Bob's boat back into the water. Thanks to Tom Melon Stock boat #51 that pulled 337 off the beach and weeds with Matt Bennett behind the wheel. The boat was back in the water about 2 hours after the crash in the weed. The skier Dave was Okay in the water with rescue around him and then into the rescue boat with the ski rope. The boat after all that was Okay! The boat had no water in it and was not sinking. The prop and under equipment was not damages. All in all the boat came out very good for the crash. Denny in correct that the Hero was Bruce for running over Hooker the skier of the other boat in the turn. Thanks to all the poeple that help out to get Bob's boat back on the trailer. :champagne::champagne::champagne:

PS The race should have been black flagged in the second lap!!!!

Yeah, you could have ended up on the deck of that boat like a squashed bug!!! LOL (Sorry, just trying to add a bit of humor) :p

But, in all seriousness, I'm glad no one was hurt, and things turned out as well as they did. It could have been much worse...

Sounds like a pretty scary incident, but glad everyone is ok.

Terry doesn't the rescue boat have the authority to call in a black flag? or can you just put up a red and hope the tower reacts?

The reason I ask is back in march when my boat spun out in the men's marathon, both rescue boats and parker fire departments boats were with us as the race went on. luckily no one else took a spill but what if that were to happen? there was no other resuce on the course to respond...

Maybe something to bring up in the november meeting.

What happened??
What basically happened is a clumination of (2) errors:
Error #1- #11 can't turn tight at speed and it's pilot won't drive it accordingly in that scenerio.
Error #2- The north turn was moved considerably south Sunday AM. It's previous location provided an 'hourglass' effect on exit which helped in congested turns. Why the turn was moved is a mystery to me. If it was an effort to save time, it was a mistake because it saved only about 10 seconds (at speed) in entry and exit. Multiply that time factor by 4-5 laps and it maybe saved only a minute or so each race.

Conclusion- Parker circles are the most difficult and fastest races we experience in NWSRA, that's why they are so awesome. We need to learn from our mistakes and go forward. That's about as politically correct I can muster up at this time.

So, so glad everyone was okay. I think most of the drivers in ski racing are some of the best boat drivers out there. Hats off to all the drivers and observers who braved the heat and helped make it a great weekend of awesome racing. Glad to hear your boat just looks low in the water and was not full of water.

Racer Den,
you have no dam clue what went on in the turn because you were looking backwards !! send if you would have noticed all of you outside boats were running up the middle of the course just as you were doing in so many classes. I way everyone over right from the start and tried to angle over but we were running away from each one of you so I could not drag Brady across the bow of the boat at 105 mph !! so with that said I went in to the turn to close to the boey so the turn went out wider than should, but my observer said leave room for 1 as I came out and I did leave room for two.

The fact of the matter is you guys should have been running out toward the beach so we could all fit in the turn but you didnt so it became a problem. If you guys had a problem with room you could have went deeper and slower in the middle of the turn just as i had to many time when you were driving your boat on the pole and running up the inside. I waved your observer 5 times in as many races to more over but you never moved so we had to just deal with it and I did and you never heard me crying about it did you. The simple fact is if there isnt room and you are on the outside then you should go deeper in the turn and lift off the gas until there is room. I did that many times over the weekend without one tear.....................and my boat will turn anywhere i want it to but I would never wrap a skier up in a rope at 105 mph just because it gets tight !! you guys were 3 ropes behind us going in that turn and one behind the next guy to you so there was plenty of time to go deep and lift instead of getting close to hooker or turning into the reeds.............that is my take on it and it is the truth !

If you looked at all the pictures there is one of hooker and you guys running up the course.......have a look where the wash is from my boat....you cant see me or my skier because we are that far in front but you can see my wash right against the next boat trying to get him over as well as running way to far to the middle of the river just as I said !!..........

When did they change the rules in circles allowing you to pass on the inside? I noticed fast boats not moving to the right and slow boats not moving to the left. There were also many cases where the faster boat had no choice but to run up the middle because the slower boats were close to shore and wouldnt move "poor observing", Fast boats used to run up the beach at parker allowing more room for a turn and safe passing regardless of traffic, especially when they were two or greater wide allowing the pole or inside boat some room to navigate without hooking the turn buoy I have no dog in the fight and did not see this race and realize it was on the first chute just sayn..... I actually watched one boat win his class and every pass he made was on the inside....

As you mentioned, the incident here was on the first turn. I won't comment on that incident. However, you are exactly correct that boats were passing on the inside throughout the weekend. There was no rule change, simply drivers and observers that either didn't know the rules or didn't follow them. Part of the problem is we used to have 4-5 circles plus Nationals every year. No passing on the inside in circles. People knew that. Marathons, you can pass whichever side is safe. Now that there are no circles besides the US Open, many people don't know the rules and in a tight fast course like Parker it created issues in multiple races. If these events were run like they were 10 years ago, there would have been a number of DQ's. With participation down, there is a much more lax attitude to let things go and keep people around. That can be argued either way if it is good or bad. At the same time, it isn't a hard concept for a driver to stay to the inside if they are slower traffic, and should be even easier with an observer that should be telling them faster boats are coming up and they need to have room to pass on the outside. Parker isn't the most fair course for circle races, but it definitely is fast and a lot of fun.

It is correct that boats were passing on both sides but that is because most of the drivers just dont know the difference between the two types of racing and like he said there just is not enough circles and or people to have both. The biggest problem with running races at Parker is that starting at the beach end leaves the tightest turn at the end of the first straight. that really becomes a problem as the races get faster and faster. You can not go into a one boey turn on pole one and come out on pole one ............hell you cant even come out on pole three if you are running 100 or better. That is why it is hard to tell the drivers to run the beach on the front straight so we can go into the turn on the pole but on pole four or five and come out on pole one being that there is only three or four lanes on the reed side and that became worse on Sunday when the course was moved.

the picture is on one of the Crazy hippie picture set. I dont know how to get it over here so you would have to look for yourself sorry ....:)...out of my computer range ...........but in the picture you will see two washes over in the middle of the river and mine is the one on the inside. There isnt even any white water left as we were way out at that point but the next wash over is from the next boat or pole two and you can see his white wash and see that my wash is right on top of his trying to get over to the beach side to make more room for the turn. If this boats were over towards the beach we would of had a chance to all get through.the boat on the outside at anytime could have moved over and gone deeper onto the turn and lifted until there was more room and not having to get close to Troy or taking the boat to the reeds. I did this many times over the weekend and just lifted and waited until i could make a run up against the reeds.

I think it is funny for Denny to say my boat cant turn on this tight course because looking at the lap times I towed the three fastest skiers of the weekend and of the fastest lap times of the weekend I towed four of the top five of the weekend and seven of the top ten ! ..............just my take......:)

Mike; easy to say you had the fastest lap times because the outside IS the quickest; me too (duh). I respect you emmensely Mike however I/we vividly recall your comments at the drivers meeting requesting the respect of "single bouy turns"...myself & the other drivers I was seated around 'rolled their eyes' knowing exacty what you were requesting, not to mention some 'tangles' the day before.
So if we do race again in March (after what transpired w/the authorities) and there isn't a V-drive at 100 on your outside (that can rail one like 197) we'll again shake hands and respect one another.
Nuff said, so till then haul ass & (hopefully) turn left. One last item; thanks Warpath for some bitchin racin' and your lifelong comittment to what we dig.

Lastly, everyone was and hopefully still proud of your representation of our WT in Belgium

I'm pretty sure I wasn't around when the accident happened... The pics would be from a different race. There were several instances of boats passing on the inside over the weekend, and at Parker, it appears to be safe. My only other circle to compare it to is Pudingstone, and @ the puddle, it wouldn't fly.

Dude, glad you finally chined in (after 3 months) however what's this " So next time get out of our way" baloney? Situation or not, many of us nutured your success and that kind of statement doen't fly, especially from the Brady I know. Did being a cover boy get to you or are just in between girlfriends? (If it's girlfriends remember, you don't loose the girl, you just loose your turn).
Say hi to Dad, welcome to the boards, smile & happy holidays.
