Son's girlfriend Samantha graduates USMC boot camp this weekend in S. Carolina, he and my wife are out there for the ceremony. This one chokes me up.

She graduated top of her class, expert in marksmanship, she's going to be military police.

Hopefully she will be daughter in law soon and then little jarhead grandkids after that!

The ceremony at MCRD is pretty emotional, family day is great, make sure you attend, the marines that host it are great, there is a presentation on how to live with your new Marine. They tell you not to let family members run up behind your child and surprise them for a few weeks, they may body slam them out of habit. I was a mess, the entire crowd is. When your son comes up and escorts mom by the arm, fak, my wife was losing it. Bootcamp for girls is done on the east coast. Squad leader is cool, he will come with a stripe already. Its truly a pleasure having Marines around our house, I wish it was mandatory for every kid. We are lucky that Ryan is stationed local, he was #2 in his class, so like your son he was able to pick is duty station. He comes home on some weekends which is great, but deployment for a year is just around the corner.

By the way I know your wife from VP. My son is halfway through his engineering degree at U of A. He decided last year he wanted to fly for the marines. So he will be reserve till he finishes his degree and then apply for aviation school. At least that is the plan. Now like you say, if I can get the two younger sons to go through this we will all be better off.

You must be so proud of your kids! To serve is an honor...I respect that!

I had the privilege of supporting the Marines on Camp Letherneck in Southern Afghanistan 2008/09 flew over their heads for countless days looking for stuff to catch. Our Marines are some of the finest people and deserve our Nations Support!

Forgotten war. If it weren't for M.A.S.H. I'm not sure more than 10 people besides those who served would know about that "police action"

My wife's grandpa was a soldier in that war. Got lost out there in the desert away from his unit for 10 days. Had an apple and a canteen. This same guy took one through the helmet and grazes his head pretty good. Man's man. Man I love that guy and miss him.

Congrats indeed.
There is nothing like going to a child's graduation from basic. I got chills reading all of the responses. I experienced it twice, once with my son and again with my nephew. It is a very emotional thing.
