All long time Riverside CA motorcycle people have probably talked to Malcolm over the years. He was a great ambassador for the motorcycle community. For people that enjoyed the movie " On any Sunday" he was featured in it.

Malcolm Smith (1941 – 2024), who many consider to be America’s most-renowned and best-loved motorcyclist, has died from complications of Parkinson’s disease, which he battled for more than two decades. He was 83.
Smith passed away at home in Riverside, Calif., on November 26, peacefully and surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife Joyce, daughters Louise and Ashley, sons Joel and Alexander, granddaughters Evie, Adeline, Amelie, Miley and Claire, and grandsons Ethan, Malcolm and Conrad.
In his final year he welcomed his newest grandchildren, Malcolm, Conrad and Claire, and was thrilled to watch his granddaughters learn to ride motorcycles.
During his 83 years, Smith did it all: Rider. Racer. ISDT gold medalist. Shop tech. Service manager. Repair shop owner. Aftermarket distributor. Retail store owner. Actor. Sponsor. Philanthropist. Pro-motorcycling advocate. Father. Grandfather. Friend. And much more.
But over and above all that, Malcolm Smith was everyman’s motorcyclist, an enthusiastic, fun-loving, driven and talented example of what motorcycling could do and be for the everyday enthusiast, and how the sport could affect our lives in unimaginable ways.
Funeral and memorial services are pending. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Malcolm’s favorite charity, the Malcolm Smith Motorsports Foundation, which supports the children of Baja.
More than decade ago. Malcolm Smith wrote these words for the final chapter of his acclaimed 2015 autobiography: “It all started for me on March 9, 1941, in a small rural hospital in the village of Ganges, on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, Canada… “Where it will end, no one knows. But you can be sure I’m going to enjoy every minute I have left, with a smile on my face, and my family nearby. Can’t ask for more than that.”
You can’t, and he didn’t…and the world’s motorcycling fans are better for it.
Godspeed, Malcolm.

If you rode moto, you likely looked up to Malcolm Smith. I had the chance to chat with him in my late teens and he was such a genuine guy. RIP sir, your legacy will live on forever.

Sad news. Had the opportunity to ride off road with Malcolm a few times and it was just plain fun both on the trail and during the story time sessions.

Influence myself and all all my friends were young men for off-road riding. I went out and bought my Yamaha 250 enduro after seeing that movie.

I got the text early this morning. Got to spend a lot of time personally and professionally with Malcolm. He and his wife were always good to me. Today is a sad day but fortunate for the conversations I got to have and knowledge he shared.

RIP Legend 😔

Sad news. A close family friend of ours teamed up with Malcolm to win the Baja a few times. He’s actually got husqvarna number one that they raced together.

A name you probably don't know, but Mary McGee was the female Malcolm Smith. She died yesterday at the age of 88. She was a guest of honor at the CZ World Championships that I was at last April. Take a moment to scan her accomplishments, if you have a moment. She was an amazing person in so many of the same ways that Mr. Smith was.

1963 at a New Year's Eve party attended by Hollywood stars who raced both cars and motorcycles, McGee's friend actor Steve McQueen told her "McGee, you’ve got to get off that pansy road-racing bike and come out to the desert."[7] Car racer and stunt man Bobby Harris was McGee's mentor. Her rite of passage came several months later in 1963 when Harris and other celebrity racers convinced her to enter a desert race, an AMA District 37 Enduro in Jawbone Canyon, California. McGee rode with Bob Drake, Bobby Harris & Al Tinker. The men all rode 650cc Triumphs while Mary rode a 1962 CL72 250cc Honda Scrambler. The men promised McGee that the event would be easy, but she recalls it being anything but as she was exhausted and cold in the snow that fell.

In 1966 McGee purchased a 250cc CZ and raced it through 1967 when she started racing Husqvarna motorcycles. In 1967 Mary started desert racing in Baja California events. McGee's career highlight racing bikes in Baja was in 1975, when she rode a 250 Husqvarna solo in the Baja 500, passing 17 two-man teams. McGee says that the hardest thing she ever did was Baja. "It was very barren, no electricity, no doctors, no phone. I carried Percodan in case of injury because you’d have to ride injured to get to someplace where someone has a car to get to Ensenada or La Paz to a clinic or back to the States. Luckily, I never had to use the Percodan, but I did come off the bike several times."[8] McGee ended her motocross and long distance dirt racing around 1976 for nearly 30 years.[9] In 2000, after moving to Northern Nevada and meeting old motorcycle friends, she bought a 1974 250cc Husqvarna and started entering the women's class in vintage motocross events. McGee started off in the over 60 class then moved on to the over 70 class a few years later.

We lost two great racers and who never stopped giving back to others.
When you follow their life's work it inspires me to get out and do more to help others.

I saw him about 20 years ago on the 60 freeway one Sunday afternoon in his white Suburban with Malcom Smith Motorsports printed on the front doors. That was the highlight of my day.
