So in our Strike Outs, Base Hits, and Home Runs thread, one of the things that was asked for was some High Performance Outboard Content. In my humble opinion for a boat that can pull double duty as a family river boat but still break off just about anything you run across in accelleration and top speed it's almost impossible to beat an old school Mach 22.

This boat is bad to the bone, but I'm going to jump right into the twist. If it wasn't fast enough already the original owner had it rigged with a pretty unbelievable Nitrous kit. The kit itself was removed before the boat went up for sale, but the boat is wired and setup for it so I don't think it would be hard to do it again.

I have to admit I haven't seen a nitrous kit in a boat before where you could turn the bottles on and off at the dash before. Maybe DCBRigger will chime in and throw up some pics of the original installation if they have some?

Note the bottle pressure gauge, and what I can only assume is a seperate fuel pressure gauge for the Nitrous system.

You can see some blank holes in the transom where the Nitrous system was installed. I'd look for original pics of the boat and replicate it to a T. Personally I'd probably take it back to DCB to have it done if I was a serious buyer.

The boat is over at OCM in Havasu, I didn't ask him a price on it mostly because I don't want to kick tires, and I'm not a buyer on it. Through just BS'ing with him though he told me both Powerheads are basically new. I'd guess the price to be in the upper 40's with that power and it being fresh. I didn't crawl through it, but with the exception of the holes in the transom for mounting the nitrous hardware it looked pretty much showroom to me.

I wish DCB still built little Hot Rods like this. If you ever get a chance to ride in one, you'll never forget it, and you'll come away with a little more hair on your chest.

Gawd damn! [emoji33] Sweet! [emoji4]
I don't remember ever seeing one with 300X's on it, many with 280's and the KMG with Drags. Did you get the top speed on it Dave? That is some one off stuff on the dash, someone really invested a lot of $$, time and knowledge rigging the nitros on it.

I stopped by to talk to Tim and looked at the immaculate DCB. It looked like a showroom hot rod car.

Somebody has really put some time into keeping it up and out of the weather. How much extra horse power would come out of each engine when pressed with bottles opened up.

That boat was built for my buddy. Number 3 of the eight DCBs Dave has built for him. It was rigged with drag 300s, each with an alcohol injected 175hp NOS shot. We were big into NOS at the time. It was a great lake boat except for the problem that drag 300s were race motors and keeping them together was a bit of a challenge.

He is wearing out on the big boats. The current boat, M29 with a 1350, is back at Dave's shop and who knows what idea they are working on. Well, I have a good idea - but you never know.

KMG is building the Mach22, he calls it Phantom22 so you can still buy this little lake hotrod. KMG's build quality is equal to DCB if not better.

What is that clothsline retractor dealio behind the go pedal with red rope attached to the underside of the dash?

I agree. Kevin builds a beautiful boat.

Not sure how that'd work....seems to run thru two hard mounts under the dash and knotted to stay there.

I dunno what it is...
What appear to be hard mounts are tabs that pull out 2 engines 2 kill switches

I had a feeling this was originally built for your buddy, just from the gel scheme. It's a top notch piece. Do you have any pics from when it was built or stats on the boat (speed etc?? I'm sure it was more setup for acceleration though)

Remote bottle openers have been around since the late 90's. Basically it's just an electric motor that opens or closes the valve for you so you don't have to get up to do it, or leave them open all the time.

Correct. Usually you try to keep the nitrous at a specific pressure when you use it, like 1100psi or something. Consistency is key. More pressure means more nitrous and less pressure means less nitrous. Since the fuel side is separate and likely supplied by a regulated pump, if the nitrous pressure goes up, the motor goes leaner when on the button. If the nitrous pressure goes down, the motor goes richer when on the button.

Really Dave? You missed that as being a bass boost knob? WOW! ;)
OK. I still don't see a clip or wriststrap. How does it work?
The red/black thing on the floor behind the throttle is the wrist strap.

On the Bass Knob deal.. That same type of knob is used for all sorts of different applications. I had one in my Teryx that was a Master Volume knob. I had one in my first car as a bass knob. I wasn't sure if they were using it for a stereo, or some other app? Or even if it was for a stereo what application they were using it for? Back in the days when this boat was built (or slightly before it) Jacob's nitrous controllers were all the rage. You could vary all kinds of shit with those things, from ramp up's, to RPM engagements, etc.. I wasn't sure if maybe they had tied a knob into something like that so that you could vary on the fly what RPM it kicked in at, or even the severity of the hit when it did kick in.

In short I didn't assume the bass knob was for bass.. LOL I didn't crawl up in the boat, but I don't remember seeing any major stereo in it, so I just didn't assume anything at that point when it came to the knobby knob.

I do have original pics which I will get organized. You are on the money on the set up.

We never went for a top end number but 130 would not have been a problem. With a set of tuned 26" ETs and 900psi in the bottles, it would reach 123 at 10,500 in about as long as it takes for a good fart. The acceleration was brutal.

What props do you think would have got the highest Top End number?

Friend has one, it's quite possibly the scariest thing I've ridden in, water or pavement. He has 280's on his and it knocks on the door of 120 and accelerates from cruising on plane to 100 in seconds.

I have a friend that has one with twin drag motors......He can put small props on it (26s) and beat most of the drag boats......and still goes north of 125 :champagne:
Puts 30s on it and can't/won't find the top end, I'd figure 140ish if you can hang into it.

Was it a stable ride to 100?

Don't know, It's not a mid day boat, you get up at dawn run the gorge at 130, get your rocks off, bring it back to the house and grab the family and kids and head out on the toon for the day.

Extremely stable, it feels like you could go 200.....but you know you can't :D
You have to put your finger on the bridge of your sunglasses to look sideways at your friend to see his face doing wave gyrations that you've only seen in horror movies :D:D

I got a ride in Dave Bush's 23 Cougar back in the day, went 125 which was unheard of then. Great ride, but the Mach22 is just as stable and sooo much quicker.

Cleavers always produce the big numbers which in our end of the world is not the goal. The game is who gets there first which cannot be played with cleaver props. I will give up 5 mph on the top end for 5 lengths out of the hole anytime.
