Yep I just looked. If paid for with HD pro extra card. Which I have not used in along time due to the 30% interest rate.

Same at Lowes with the Lowes card which I use everyday everywhere. It's my Amex with the best rewards.

Otherwise it's 90 days with receipt or 30 without. Appliances are now 48 hours after delivery or pick up.

Both used to just show your ID and get store credit with a limit of 1k or so per year. Now the gift cards issued have to match the ID of who they were issued to.

Years ago I went to oversee an install in Scottsdale. We need some helping maneuvering equipment around so I said no problem and went to Home Depot to grab a few guys. The place was vacant, I was shocked. Now, living in Havasu, I understand why it’s here to get things done around here. I sure miss the hot dogs and easy access to labor.

Lowe’s is my go to. HD only has self checkout with one frantic lady trying to keep everything going. Lowe’s always seems to be a ghost town compared to HD, in my area at least.

Nicer and more helpful at Lowes, but Prices and availability at Home Depot is usually much better for the things we buy.
Home Depot often beats Amazon prices by a significant amount as well.

BTW: Speaking of super stores, you now can walk into restaurant depot and get a guest pass and make taxable purchases.

Mostly HD as its 1/2 mile away. Lowes about 5 miles.
Although depends what I want. Lowes has nicer pieces of sod when I replace some lawn. They both carry some different flowers so wife goes between both.
Lowes seems to have more Weber parts if I need stuff for the grill.
Lowes had some Kohler bathroom items HD didn't have so went there.

I use both as a last resort. Both have no checkers, so you wait at the pro line or do self checkout. Home Depot employees make an effort to hide from you, so you’re not getting an help from them when you’re trying to find something.
Lowe’s seems to be better at customer service for the homeowner type.

The best thing you can do on my opinion, is shop at your local ACE or TrueValue or DoItBest hardware store. They carry a much more diverse product, are USA tailored to the local demand (ACE in Panguich sells chickens) and have real people to help you and check out.

I do my best to avoid Lowe’s and HD whenever possible and use the other previously mentioned options as much as possible. I want my community hardware store to be there when I need them.

I agree 100%. Unless I need large quantities of something, Ace is the place. They actually have a much better selection of nuts n bolts than either HD or Lowes. The people are generally very nice and knowledgeable. Plus, they carry a great selection of gun screws!!

For me Home Depot is super unorganized, poor parking, and the help is rude.

Lowes is organized, most stores are laid out the same, great parking, I don’t need to weave around all the stupid guys and their trailers offering to "hall trash", and most of the employees are super polite and customer driven.

If the price is the same, or just a bit more at Lowes, I'll go there first just to avoid the HD headache.

When I started going to the home improvement stores, I lived in the SFV and had to navigate the crowds of day laborers @ HD, so started going to Lowes, plus Lowes is much cleaner. I'll check both for prices, and last couple of times I've bought appliances, I've gotten a better price at HD. Either/or for me.

I've got the self checkout kiosk wired at HD, pick up the gun and bang bang bang, so much better than waiting in a line.. Super quick.

Lowes. Bigger & cleaner parking lot. No drywall screws in the lot. Can always find a parking spot and they are wider than HD.

Can always get help if needed. Store is clean. Contractor spots are open and not filled with people in Corollas & Teslas buying plants. They carry Weber & Blackstone.

Always able to find a cart in the lumber area. Aisle's are not filled with crap, rolling stair ladders or forklifts. Or carts full of materials for delivery. Main aisle is not jamb packed with appliances so hardly anybody can get through.

HD for Milwaukee tools. Then check my tires for screws and nails. And then dodge the 100 "newcomers" looking for work at the entrance.

I think of that sometimes. We got in the habit when Jeff was a contractor, and then we were remodeling our house from the studs out, then we bought another house and did the same thing. And then they started closing down the regular checkout lines, so we started using it for every trip. Used to use it for just bigger orders, but now we use it when we need a box of drywall screws. Sorry, not sorry! We keep the employees busy after the contractors leave for the day. Fun fact though, in Montana, the construction workers don't start until AT LEAST 8 am. That's in the winter. In the summer, they may not start work until about 10 or 11. There's fish to be caught in the morning. Oh, and they are done at 4-5, because there's fish to be caught in the afternoon! [insert Biden voice] That's not a joke, jack! I'm serious!

I prefer to go to HD at night. No way I am waking up at 6am to go get materials for the day. I left HD at 840 last night made it to dinner at 855 to still get happy hour price. Got home 1030. Went to bed 1220.

You missed my point. HD does NOT accept 40 yrs of service in the U.S. Merchant Marines as military service. I’ve spoken twice with them about it. Therefore, we’ve spent thousands of dollars at our LHC Lowes. HD can go take a Flying F.

Then whenever I do go to Lowe's, it's like a whole new store, which is cool.

But I try my best to use Ace Hardware whenever possible, (usually just small around the house project stuff) . . . but their 'fastener department' blows Lowe's & HD out of the water.
They also carry some 'actual brands' as opposed to HD & Lowe's who seem to be on a never ending mission to remove anything good in the store and replace it with their own 'HDX - 'Husky' - or 'Cobalt' branded chinese crap.

I bought a made in USA 'Dramm' 25' garden hose at Ace a while back for washing down my boat at the ramp . . . $45.00 , but what a difference from the crap hoses I tolerated for years. Even the craftsman lifetime guarantee black hose I had turned petrified.

HD & Lowe's are just necessary evils . . . same with Costco.

I recently had my veterans status backfire and cost us additional.
Both Verizon and AT&T wireless offer Veterans discounts. With Verizon it would have been $ 25 a month. I became aware of this discount when an AT&T Sales person mentioned it at Costco recently. Since I'd completed all the " Real ID" hoops to get my vet status on my CA driver's license, it was easy to get it approved by Verizon.
Imagine our surprise when we got our next bill and discovered it was not lower, but higher.
Prior to my requesting a Vet discount, we were getting a loyalty discount of $ 40 a month for being long time wireless customers, when they applied the Vet discount, they removed the $ 40 and gave us the $ 25. Wife called to inquire WTF and it seems you can only get one or the other, can't get both. Vet status was dropped, we'll take the $ 40.

I don’t know if US Merchant Marines who served post WWIi are eligible for USAA membership. I never looked into it. Many people aren’t even aware of the U.S. Merchant Marines. I’m thankful Lowe’s does acknowledge us.

Yes. All of the testing I was required to take, and pass, was completed at USCG Regional Exam Centers. Each were a level of the Merchant Marines. Various amounts of experience were required for each level. Things have changed. My most lengthy test took 5 full days to take, with the USCG exam officer watching you thru glass partitions. Many were essay questions. I wrote over 100 pages on yellow legal tablets, plus all the chart, navigation and stability calculations. Now, testing can be accomplished remote from CG exam centers. Fortunately my study habits and math skills were good.

Maritime Academy - there are a number of them. Each offer bachelor degrees. Cal Martime, actually a division of the Cal State University system, offers 7 undergrad programs: Business Admin, Intl Tech/Security, Maritime Operation, Engineering (Field, Facility and Maritime) and Oceanography. To be properly licensed to work onboard a vessel, there are additional exams and 2 subdivisions. These exams are accomplished at the school. No need to attend a USCG Exam Center. Unlimited 3rd Mate, a bridge position. And Unlimited 3rd Engineer, an engine room position. Each are good licenses, recognized by large deep water vessels all over the world. But either on the bridge or the engine room, you are the low man when it comes to vessel officers. Unlimited for Mates refers to gross tonnage. Unlimited for Engineers refers to horsepower.

Licensing and Maritime Academies have changed considerably through the years. I began as a deckhand on large sportfishing boats. When I’d gained the CG required amount of experience, studied for and passed the 100 Ton Ocean Operator’s Exam. With that license I ran large sportfishing vessels. When I’d acquired enough experience, the required years of operation as captain, I studied for and took the USCG Master’s Exam. In those years, 1970s, there was only 1 Master’s Exam. That was that 5 day SOB. I’m very proud to say, I passed on my first try, many/most didn’t. And to add a little more drama, 2 days later I was getting married. License worked for 40 years. The marriage has worked for 48 years . . . so far.
