I know I posted about it many years ago.
Rolled into Vegas Friday night a decade or so ago for a wedding.
Low buck.
Fremont street 👍
There was a low rider club in the lot, at least 4 states represented.

Long day, kids at school, wife work, me work. Then drive to Vegas🤨
Got them dialed in and said I’m getting a beer and check out the cars.

My wife says ok, be careful.😳
😂

Those guys are awesome.
Asks about the car. A 20 minute story from the heart.

One guy had his jams, under trunk lid, under hood, with murals of people.

I asked him about it.
Well? That’s my Tio Jesus.
Then realized I’m a white guy. 😊
Grandma over there.
Sister there.
Cousin down there.
It was like a rolling wall of mural art dedicated to his family.

The amount of detail and passion there is no gauge for.

Thing is many can be intimidated by the guys who own the cars. I’m far from fitting the profile but truth is be cool they’re very cool guys to talk about the cars. Respect goes a long ways.

I go to some shows and cruise nights some these guys will hand me a modelo or corona and I take it. 🤣🍺

100 percent, my wife is Spanish so she started off the conversations for me😁. Every owner we talked was down to earth.

The modelo/corona guys get it....it's the guys with a bottle of Night Train you gotta be careful of.

Been my experience going to shows. I know quite a bit of guys over the last few years I’m Mexican too but more a white Mexican.

First time I took my wife she was lil nervous but realized they’re all down to earth and love to talk about the cars.

I work in so cal often but going to a big show on may 18 whittier blvd deal with my uncles car club look foward to it.

This was In Westminster today. We saw them on the 22 yesterday and heard they were all parked there today. Small but yet fun show.

I've always been a function over form guy....but I can appreciate some nice finish work. There comes a point when it's just showing off and spending EBT card $$ that makes it just stupid. Engraving on rocker arms? Never been a fan of the lowriders past the paint work. The rest of the car is mostly undriveable shit in the examples I've had the opportunity to look over.

I like a tricked out '63 Impy convertible just as much as an insane hot rod.

I guess it all depends on one's point of view. Spending the money to build and install a 2,200 horsepower engine and drivetrain is also $$ and stupid. The engine never gets run hard, and periodic maintenance requires expensive efforts. Like lowriders, the car is mostly undrivable. It's done all the time, and car guys, like almost everyone on RDP, see that and proclaim it's fucking cool.

They are not my style either but anyone in the know would appreciate the massive amount of man hrs put into those cars.

I would have also checked out every one.

Like it was said earlier, the cars are just about unusable - the cars with the hydraulics ride like shit. I was coming back from the river on a Sunday going through Beaumont and saw a few cars cruising about 65 (barely) and now I know why they drive so slow - it’s because the suspensions can’t handle any bumps, they just telegraph the road irregularities to the car. Each car had a driver, his chica, and his buddy in back with his chica too with all their heads and bodies bouncing in unison. It was pretty damn funny.
And what is it with Mexicans not using air conditioning? It was over 100 degrees out and all the windows were down and the same with other cars (that appeared to be with the group), newer ones that I know for sure have A/C, but they choose to not use it and just roll down the windows.

I rolled my 72 Cutlass in Tucson for years without AC. A hard top with all the windows down isn't uncomfortable unless you are sitting at a light.

Always found the low riders intriguing. Lots of work and the guys I've talked to, almost all of it was done by them (built not bought). Way different then the old white guys with a fat checkbook. Paint in invariably done by "my cousin". Not a group I would normally hang out with today, but when I lived in South Tucson I had a neighbor or two that had family with lowriders.

Gonna take the 58 to corn feed show this weekend I’m down here working so
Might as well take it out. Going with a couple uncles who are taking their cars.

Nice! I’ve got a group meeting at 6:00am at the Circle K on Central just below the 60. You guys and anyone else are more than welcome to join us. If not I’ll look for you inside. 👍

it's just a good ol street lowrider with some upgrades. iv have had a blast with my ride cruise it every chance i get, picking up kids from school to taking a hr/2hr cruise to get some milk. the shows are cool and it's won a few awards but there's nothing like being in motion and putting down the blvd.

When I worked in East LA, these things were absolutely everywhere (this was before ‘take-overs’) and the culture was awesome to be around. Absolutely not my thing as far as the actual cars go (I’m a muscle car guy), but the work and paint and love that goes into those cars is incredible!

What ever happened to the Chihuahua with the head that goes up and down? Usually mounted to the rear package tray?

This question is limited to old folks.
