Usually it’s people shooting tannerite out in the desert.. it’s pretty common all winter long, and sometimes someone will shoot a ginormous one and it will actually rattle the windows on the houses. Lol


Pretty odd for it to be happening this late at night though.

It came from the south, because my front doors face south and they shook like all hell was coming down .

It felt close, and it took me a few minutes to get our cat off the ceiling ..............

Im on the north side of town. Great way to loose our freedoms and fuck it up for everyone.

When I was In high school many moons ago we filled a trash bag with oxy acetylene and shot it with a tracer from an m1 garand. Ho lee fok! Didnt do that anymore.

They used to light them in the Washes and you could hear them clearly on Gecko in Glamis.

We would do that and put it in the elevator pit when guys where in the hoistway welding .suprise !! It was always funny

Several big ones went off in the hills behind us at or around midnight........kind of freaks me out knowing that the shooter is most likely intoxicated and is also firing into the darkness.

First Boy Scout camp out i went on they made bombs outa gator-aid bottles, drain cleaner, and a piece of aluminium foil.

In the patented recipe for Tannerite, the fuel is aluminum powder with some titanium. The oxidizer is a mixture of ammonium nitrate and ammonium perchlorate, the key part being the “ate” on the ends of those words. That means they contain oxygen, in this case bound to nitrogen and chlorine atoms respectively. Ammonal, the generic version is usually just the aluminum powder and ammonium nitrate.

When mixed together, the components need a certain amount of energy to set off the explosive reaction. In the case of Tannerite, that comes from the kinetic energy of a fast-moving bullet. Oxygen atoms leave nitrate and perchlorate and bind to aluminum atoms to form aluminum oxide. That’s the stuff that gives untreated aluminum its rough, ashy look.

I know aluminum well, having spent the last several years working at a smelter as a millwright / industrial mechanic.

It's a mixture that allows you to create an exploding target. This crack shot gives us a quick demo.

Tannerite needs a min amount of energy (impact) to explode, it has to me a high powered rifle a pistol won't set it off. They claim you can strike it with a hammer and it won't go off, no fucking way I would try that but my brother is on his departments bomb squad and while in bomb school in Alabama the instructors did demonstrate that it will not go off with a hammer strike. They have bigger balls than me.
