There are some real estate listings on LOTO that use the location across from the shootout as a selling point.

Curious if the listing agents update their listing

It sucks that it won't be literally right around the corner from us. I believe it will be a GREAT area & much more accessible for everyone. It shouldn't make miles & miles of the lake 5mph thus "opening" up the entire lake. At the previous location TONS of people wouldn't go to spectate because of the miles of 5mph. Hopefully it will work out great for everyone.

Let loose with them.

Lots of politics involved however this had been talked about for several years that I know of.

You know the more I think about it the more I realize I don’t want to get involved with it.

I will just say it is very unusual for the main face to an event to “retire” two weeks before an event.. and then have the event move to a location away from the guy that resurrected it.

It seems like there is almost a hostile take over going on out there..

Then the auction being split from supercat.. them buying the offshore races.. I don’t understand the vision going forward I guess you would say.

Glad I stay far away from all that drama

You might be right, I have no inside info on this. But Ron is selling Captain Ron’s so without his driving force I’m not sure how it would continue at that location. Also the miles long main channel no wake zone is always an issue. The new location off the main channel will be better in that regard. It also has much better access to a public launching ramp.

If Ron Dugan hadn't listed the restaurant for sale earlier this year, you might be right but I honestly think he is just done with everything and ready to retire. As soon as I saw he quit the shootout board I figured this would happen. He's basically the only one that wanted it at the other end of the lake. Everyone else wanted it back in the Osage Beach area.

If I was going to retire I'd announce it at the banquet the year of.. or leading up to it and have a retirement party or something.

Thats a horrible location. All the boat traffic going through the channel that is narrow. On a normal summer weekend the channel is very crowded and very rough. Cant imagine what it will do to the docks at Topsiders and the other condos.

As a first time attendee this year, I have mixed feelings about this. We wanted to rent the same Air BnB for next year but it is up across from Big Dick's around the 34MM or so. That will make for a long run to the event. On the other hand, I'm towing a boat around 4K miles round trip to do this so I want to run the boat when I get there. We ran to Osage everyday anyway (except for Saturday when it rained all day) so it isn't really a big deal.

My concern would be having enough room for the spectator raft up. I think you'll have to get there early to get a good spot if you want to actually watch the racers. I know some people just go for the party and don't really watch but I want to see them run. I'm sure it is going to be a bit of a cluster getting in and out too.

I'll still go and I guess we'll just have to see how it all works out.

I did the marathon no wake one time and that was enough , that event is not like what it used to be year,s ago it was crazy rafting I could tell by the last event pics it was down on traffic , the rafting I mean .

Does anyone know if there’s a map of sorts showing all of the no-wake zones on the lake?

I don’t think they really care about the spectator boats. It's a huge headache policing everyone and keeping them organized and they get zero money from them. Most of them are locals that don't participate in anything but the Saturday raft up to party.

Listening to all this and reading the articles, I am thinking a few things.
  1. Ron resigned from the board because he did not agree with the direction. I have done the same vs finishing my term as president on a couple charity boards I worked on.
  2. This event move has been planned for a period of time, and my guts says Taylor S drove that change
  3. When a charity starts being driven by companies vs individuals, that is the start of a decline.
