Tandom or triple axle trailer? I have chain, ratchet straps, and a floor jack if you would like me to come up so you could limp it into town? Assuming you're coming to Havasu. I live on the north side, maybe 20 min from you, let me know.

After 3 hrs and a long drive from the 40 it's finally got it in the garage. The maiden voyage in the new to us Hallett will have to wait till Sunday. Tomorrow is trailer repair/maintenance.

Give those brakes a good once over. If they hung up for some reason, that could be the cause of your failure.

Agree 100%. Plus I would rather have the trailer worked on w/o the boat on it, protect the boat, easier for them to make the repairs etc..:thumbsup

Not sure how the marina will be looking today with the jet ski races in town though?
Plenty of 25 foot slips for sure or drive to the Channel and tie it up.

When I bought my boat, trailer maintenance was the first order of business. Adrenaline picked up the trailer and dropped back off at Windsor for me while we were on the lake.

I was always curious exactly how a wheel is strapped when it goes bad. I have straps in the truck but have never done it. Now I know. [emoji106]

OB at least AAA towed you. They told us they don't tow boat trailers in AZ and let us hang.
Trailer is getting worked on now with the boat. I understand taking the boat off making it easy on the repair but didn't want to risk the 1 single wheel on that side. Last thing I wanted us to loose another bearing with the single wheel after driving 2O miles on and being stuck at the ramp. People would be extremely happy at me. Lol.

So we are making the best of today. Getting to know the area better as we only came 1 or 2 twice a year. Might even look at a few cheap starter houses. Will see what the day brings.

Jack it up as high as possible to compress the spring. Strap in place and limp it in... Just keep the hub from grinding on the ground.

Did I miss pics of your new Hallett? You posted a little teaser. If I missed it, Link it so I can see your Hallett.

When u have it fixed ask them to buy an extra set of bearings, pack them, and put them into a zip lock bag so u can fix it yourself when it happens again.

I grease my bearings after each trip just a couple shots of grease. And before each season i lift the wheels up and spin the wheels if a wheel sounds a lil rough i will pull and check the bearings usually will see some pitting on these "noisy"wheels.

IMO boat trailer bearings are often the most neglected out of all and its preventable.

Every year (if I'm towing more that a block to the ramp), I pull all the hubs, clean and repack them before towing. I've seen too many on the side of the highway F'ing up their weekend (and pocketbook) over a simple maintenance issue.

Me Likey..... Hallett

Had the same thing happen a few years ago. It is no fun. Hope you got it repaired.

Boat US has Unlimited Freshwater Towing for $72 per year. Add unlimited trailer assist (includes trailer and tow vehicle) for $14. Registered to you, so all your boats are covered. Also, if you rent or borrow a boat, you're covered. One tow and you have more than paid for it.

Dropping the AAA towing service for trailers and adding the trailer assist to the boat tow service.

We did make it out on Sunday for a bit. We cruised south as I would need to follow someone else going north to see the line that is taken through the shallow parts. We were always passages in family's boat so never really paid attention. So again we just took some time to cruise and look around.

The only other thing was, I need to teach the wife how to back down the trailer better. Any one have any tips that helped their wife's? I plan on hooking up our 20' box trailer and taking her to a parking lot and running some drills. Thank GOD it wasn't busy and someone helped her. We will be heading back in a few weeks and practicing at the ramp as well.

If the only trailer she'll be backing down I would suggest using that trailer, all are different. Go find yourself a big, empty for the most part lot and let her have at it. She'll be a pro in no time. I've done that with my wife with every trailer we've owned and she has NO qualms about backing ANY trailer now, including other people's at the ramp, or for that matter, at the dump. She can back them all.

Haven't really taught her how to back down yet. I just tie up the boat, go grab the truck and back it in myself. I did let her back it in at 10pm at Windsor one time, that was pretty funny. She does pull the trailer out and park the truck all the time so I will ease her into backing it up little by little.

That's how I do it! I let her try every time she ask.... my stomach hurts from laughing after. She's a good sport tho and has gotten better. I just make sure the ramp isn't packed. It's so hard for me to understand how people can't back up when on a daily basis we back things like this up I'm my industry 20161003_061226.jpg

My chicks got it down pretty good now at Windsor, But prefers launching the boat and picking me up while I deal with the trailer stuff lol. But when she would back down the trailer I would be on speaker phone as she's backing down and I would guide her down from the water in the boat. It worked[emoji106]hah

tips for teaching a wife..

1. tell her to put her hand on the bottom of the steering wheel. which ever way her hand goes is the way the trailer will go. (it is the opposite if your hand is at the top of the wheel)

cover up the rear view mirror on the windshield with something and force the use of the side mirrors and don't let her look over her shoulder

Go to a lowes or Home Depot parking lot at night.. back the trailer from one side to the other.. show her that the smaller the corrections the better for keeping everything in line.

Then teach her how to back into parking spots.. once you are comfortable slowly around light poles.. have her drive around them forward so they learn to turn wide.. then have her back around them so she can get a feel for how much more sensitive steering input is going backwards etc..

hopefully you have a car hauler or something.. when you are all done with the training and you get home leave it all hooked up and tell her that's she's driving it like that for a week. Hopefully at the end of the week it doesn't come back with different colored paint on the fenders.. lol. (that is what I did with Stacy and she's pretty competent with a trailer now. btw it came back unscathed)

It was funny too. I was on the phone trying to help, she started to freak out as some people were watching cause she was just parked in the prep area then decided to pull back around. Her issue was that she didn't make a big enough swing to get the trailer straighter before backing down. She could have made it but it would have been 3 spots over from where she started.

I thought about tying up and getting the trailer, but didn't think is was in option. What if its summer busy? you guys still tie up? wont people start to get antsy when you leave the truck at the ramp to get the boat on the trailer? Some people are pretty impatient at the ramp.

I've tied up on real busy weekends just because it was faster then dealing with my other options I had of people not really knowing how to back down lol. Not that big of a deal if you have some kind of routine down. I've always tied the boat up hustled to the get the trailer. Then as I'm backing down my gf (or whoever) starts walking over to the truck to switch me spots. I Back the trailer into the water then grab the boat. Load it on trailer. They winch it up, pull out and off we go

I've yet to have someone say something to me about taking to long or leaving the truck on the ramp if your totally by yourself.
