Looks like Boatmasters in Livermore is closed up for good. Going to miss having parts available 3 miles from my house. Plus, they were knowledgeable and always had good advice.

Drew said the land was more valuable than the business. Still seems crazy to me the business wasn't worth something because they were always slammed busy with repairs, Merc warranty, & boat sales.

I did wonder about the property. Didn't know if they owned it or rented but I guess they did own it.

I know they were in business for at least 30 years so maybe it was just time to retire.

But I agree that selling the business and renting the property might have been a good plan.

I can see a number of reasons for closing.
California business climate
Real estate values are high
Employee pool is shrinking
Online sales continue to erode walk-in
Customer expectations occasionally are impossible to meet

Selling the business is a bet that the future owner has the means and ability to continue to operate and pay you the rent.
Sale is a one time, take the proceeds and go

30 years is a good run

How much did they charge for an annual?

I no longer live in Livermore, so I don't know if a new boat shop opened in the location or some other business.

The property was not sold to a boat business. I believe the new owners have something to do with heavy equipment.

Always a sad day to lose a quality shop. Congrats to Drew though on the sale and hopefully reduced stress!
