My wife has home schooled our 7yo daughter for about two yrs now. We had her in a private school in ft laud , then covid hit, we left fl for NC and our new neighborhood is full of home schooled kids. Also the there are a lot of activities and networking once you dive into it . As for the socialization, she is getting more then she would've at school. I also travel nonstop for work, it gives my wife and daughter the opportunity to meet me occasionally as they are on there own schedule. I will say, thank God for my wife , I could never do the teaching part of it. I believe it does take a parent to be able to manage/teach though for homeschooling to be successful, not just throw them on a tablet and walk away.

GOOD FOR YOU!!

We put our daughter (Then 11yo) in private school last year, as we also saw the writing on the wall about masks, and all the BS agenda they push! She did IN SCHOOL learning everyday last year, they only wore the mask when they were really close to each other, and magically there was no outbreaks! She played on the volleyball team, did dance, and LOVED every minute of it. She will be staying in private school until A- We move to a less fucked up state, or B- she goes to high school, which we will then re-evaluate at that time.... FUCK THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEMS!

LAUSD is rated next to last in this country . It has a budget the same size as a small country . Most kids graduating barely have 3rd grade skills . What happened ? Why ?

for sure about parent involvement and guidance. My wife is the one that is pushing and since she doesn’t work (I mean traditional work at a job 😉 ) she will be the one dealing with it all. We’ve talked about it for a year. I’m pretty set in my ways and have the personality of putting my nose to the grindstone and get shit done even when it’s a shitty situation. She’s more of a “fuck this” type of personality and puts the work in to change stuff. So, I told her I appoint and agree with what she’s doing and if she thinks it’s a good idea I’m in.

I agree about the easier on travel and stuff too it’s kindve a big selling point for us (besides the obvious) is this past year and a half we’ve become spoiled on picking up and leaving whenever we feel like and spending more time with our daughter and SIL in havasu and stuff. Makes it easier with home schooling.

I think the stigma of home schooling has changed radically the past few years. Where home school used to be weird it’s now becoming pretty main stream. We know mor wand more people doing it. Sign of how fucked up Ca public schools are.

And i have no reservations about a social aspect. My kids are social butterflies. Zero worries there lol

first step will be the younger guy. If we dig it, it’ll be our older son too. We’ll see how it goes.

When my wife first told me she wanted to homeschool my daughter, I said oh God no, what will people think, but now we are seeing just how popular it is, and how great most of the kids are, it will be tough to change now.

South OC for the win here. My kid was in class every day minus the first 4 weeks last year. Our district won’t shut down in person learning unless forced by the state. No wokehole teachers at our elementary school either.

I can't understand homeschooling, it's just not of any interest to us. Its not a "thing" in our area either. Dont know anyone that does it. "Going" to school is a big part of developing, growing, learning how to work and exist with many other people. Our daughter is in a great private, non-religious school. They have to wear a mask inside, but the kids are ok with it. Yes it certainly is not ideal but they're in class, with friends all experiencing it together.

I totally get that perspective and I’m on the fence about it. Half of me is like, “deal with it. Deal with challenges in life it’s a learning moment for the kids to overcome” and the social aspect of course, working together and developing. But the other half of me is like, “it’s too much bullshit and politics and lack of focus on actual schooling (sprinkled in with a little personal experience of public education failing my older son when he struggled with math. Instead of identifying it and working with him they just kept passing the buck each year until he struggled with math so much it was a real problem. Took us getting a tutor to right the problem but really? It’s the schools responsibility to identify a kid that struggles in any given topic and work with them to overcome. I just don’t see that happening in public school any longer. I see time and time again the “well, they don’t get it so too bad, moving on.”

school now is basically day care. Fuck that. My kids don’t need daycare. It’s a risk / reward situation. Do the negatives outweigh the positives or vice versa. After waiting it out last couple years I think we’ve come to the conclusion the positives don’t out weigh the negatives for public education. And as stated, we have a pretty robust social life and the kids are with other kids nearly every day. I’m not too concerned about the social aspect.

I do like the structure and discipline of responsibility with traditional in class schooling. But that will fall into us when home schooled.
So, there’s always risk / reward analysis. And that’s what we plan to do. Try it out and see how it goes. Going into it not completely sold. But going to try it out.
Thought about private school as well and that was an option but damn it’s spendy and most are full.

we’re in to check it out. See how it goes.

we had pretty awesome teachers when my girls were in public school.... and to me, most seemed fairly level headed... non-woke types etc. One of the teachers had my wife do some photography stuff etc and started following my wife on social media etc. come to find out she is a flaming liberal.... which is fine right? she was nice and my kids liked her etc. That's fine.... just teach the subject at hand and we're cool.

well that day after the "insurrection" she's posting to social media, about the dire crazy time we are in, and how she should discuss the "terrorist attack" / "Insurrection" to her class. This is for 2nd grade!!! wtf do 2nd graders need to know or talk about related to this topic? blew my mind.... but that is how they do it.... plant little seeds here and there..... rather than just teach math, science, history, etc....

Sincerely...... good luck!!! I truly admire you and your wife for your desicion ...

Both my girls (now adults) went to private religious schools (HS was all girls)... It was quite a financial challenge and we made some sacrifices but no regrets ... They are now advocates and encourage other girls to do the same if they the opportunity ...

Good call on trying something different . The teachers union has paid something like 1.8 million of union dues $ into fighting Newscum's recall, so that there is reason enough to withdraw imo. My wife and a growing # of her fellow teachers have quit the union and just self insure ( they still have to protect them anyway if any real shit hit the fan ). Paso Robles district in our area voted to by pass the critical race bullshit which is nice. Hopefully other districts follow suit.

Last year my son went to a small private school to play freshman baseball.... decided this year he missed his friends and didn't want to go back to the smaller school. He transferred to Trabuco Hills this year and this was his text to me this morning... "Im gonna love Geometry"... followed by this pic. I asked if theres an American flag in the room and he said a really small sad one in the corner. My kid is a level 10 smart ass, my buddies call him " Shane The Brain" because even at a young age, his wheels were spinning and he always has a smart ass one liner to everything. This could be a long year for him in the front office. Im thinking of sending an email tonight to the Principle/School board asking WTF any of these flags have to do with teaching my kid MATH!!!! Thats my buddies kid in the left of the pic texting him the same exact thing, hahaha. He's LEO/SWAT, and not happy either. Im really starting to miss that small Christian school and its his first day.....

Capo Valley High School....Principal said were having a full and NORMAL graduation with a limit of 4 guests per student. He comes up on stage and says look parents I want noise, cheering, whistling, and when the hats fly I want you guys to get on the field and be a part of everything. He said were not a school that hides. It s was memorable especially since that was my last HS kid.

As it turns out only OC HS to have a single graduation. So CVHS Principal John Musistin thanks for flipping the OC Health Dept the bird. We LOVED it.

I would make a stink for sure.

You are 100% correct this has nothing to do with math just some libtard teacher wanting to push it's boundaries. Find some other parents to get on with you or better yet get more kids to resist this POS.

So glad I live in a little pocket called Carlsbad. Kids recite the pledge (the correct way) each day, sign the national anthem on Fridays with no CRT or BLM topics being taught. Superintendent is a very conservative from IL (he left that state to get away from that BS). Separate teachers Union with no association to SD or LA unions.

Kids going back to school full time (full schedule, with PE, lunch etc) and only need masks when indoors (don’t love that idea, but cant win that argument). Did purchase smile masks with clear inserts over the mouth

Pretty sure Gavin has mandated that home schooled kids have to wear their mask inside too...

Or is at least planning on it!

… I guess I was lucky… My mother had been a schoolteacher in Illinois but when she and my father moved to California my father worked and my mother was a homemaker…
… i’m not too sure how I would’ve done in school if it wasn’t for my mother essentially homeschooling me on major projects…book reports etc…the other kids were surprised when sometimes I would get an A…
… my mother also taught a whole bunch of kids geometry…One of them ended up playing football for the LA Rams and the New Orleans Saints saints… another became a schoolteacher and so on…

I had similar concerns. But after talking with other parents in the program we joined. Social skills will not be a problem.
They have weekly meets ups at local parks for the kids to get together and play. And they go on a bunch of girls trips together. Some enroll in other things like gymnastics which is where we found out about this. 4 of the girls are there together every Wednesday.

I posted a thread a year ago how fed up I was with the public school system and asked about home schooling. We were fed up with the mask mandates, the school closures and the less than stellar instruction and curriculum. Not to mention this past year and a half has been an EYE OPENER into the teachers union (aka, fuck the teachers union!)

A lot of you gave a lot of input that helped but we couldn’t find a good system. We also searched for private schools and went back and forth on that but basically did the waiting game all last school year.

Now our oldest son is heading to 7th / jr high and youngest going into 3rd. It looks to me like Ca is going to play more shenanigans with covid and masks and making kids mask up etc. they conveniently put out that while for now kids only have to wear masks in class, they will reassess things November 1st. I say convenient for them because Home schooling cut off is oct 31st to transfer kids into most home school programs.

I’m concerned schools are gonna be locked down again. Also, in case you all were unaware California (somewhat quietly) pushed in a version of critical race theory into all public Ca schools. I was talking to the SRO for my 7th graders school and he says the CRT stuff is an elective so far not a forced class…yet. But that doesn’t mean kids aren’t getting it from the woke teachers.

I just want my kids to learn reading writing arithmetic and the fundamentals of learning. Not be raised and told how to think by an education system that is fundamentally broken.

Lowest number of Ca public school attendees in many many years with a. Record 5 times decline rate of enrollees onto public school.
Ca public schooling is in shambles and a disgrace. Totally unacceptable. We’re moving forward in another direction.
We are also starting the homeschool program. Good on you for doing what’s best for your kids.

You too! And like you said about the social aspect, I was supprised to hear actually how much social activity this school has - once a week meet ups at the park, online communication courses if you wish (you can text, call or facetime teacher any time) and if you want to come into the school for in person learning for various classes they offer a version of that as well. The way it works I think is they put out a day / time they will hold in person class for such in such class if you wish to come attend. Kind'a cool So not only do the kids still get a taste of a classroom, if they're struggling with something the parent cant help with, they can A, contact the teacher and B, show up to a class and work on it in person.

That seems odd. I asked each of my kids if they have political flags or BLM slogans in there class rooms, public school. It was a no. High schooler saw one Progress Pride flag in a class, but that’s it. Every class has an American flag.

In AP English, one is having a Socratic Seminar on the Pledge of Allegiance tomorrow. We are a political balanced community and we just have not experienced that type of influence in our schools.

Home schooling is not isolation. You have better control of your kids environment. Schools are filled with bullies, cliches, drugs, etc. You can avoid the adverse affects.

There are sports, church, cub scouts, girl scouts, neighbood kids etc that provide socialization. You have a better. Idea of who your kids are socializing with.

I see a big problem with society is parents turn the kids over to the schools to instill morals and work ethic. When you see the nighly news and the stories on crime , shooting etc. Are these kids home schooled or public education.

Curious, where are you guys located?

I'm struggling with the thought of putting my kids in public school, considering teachers are massively apposed to cameras in class rooms. What do they have to hide? When a person drops off there pet for boarding, they have cameras everywhere so that you can see your pet and make sure all is well. We are expected to drop off our children M-F for 7 hours and trust that these strangers have our kids best interests in mind, especially considering the state of our public school system today.

The world is filled with bullies, cliches and drugs… learning to navigate it is valuable.

We pay to send our daughter to a school where kids, for the extreme vast majority are coming from good families, stable situations, successful backgrounds. Sure there might an occasional punk kid and some drugs, that’s life. Sheltering your kid can present challenges too.

It’s 100% graduation rate and to college. And not to the local junior college. Parents aren't turning the kids “over”. They’re involved by being present and financially committed.

I agree that navigating those things is important. I disagree that home schooling will eliminate those obstacles unless you never let your kid out of the house. The thing that concerns me is the recent rule Ca schools adopted that they won’t suspend kids. They won’t discipline kids. They won’t hold little assholes or their parents accountable.THATS the problem. So when some little shit is being a shit and the school does zero about it, what lesson does that teach?

My brother and sister in law did the home school thing. At least till the kids started high school.

They are great kids! One just started Flight School in Idaho, and the other one is still in HS, buying used jet skis and parting them out. 😉

They had both boys in Boy Scouts, so they had plenty of social time and did all kinds of trips and activities. They hiked a good section of the John Muir trail at one point. Mom did it with them.

I would always gets texts from mom of them in the toy hauler, at the beach, during the winter when it was empty. Home schooling doesn't have to be done at home.

Good luck Tank! I can put you in touch with my SIL if you want.

Well, wife found a great local home school program wants to try out. I think with everything going on we are gonna try it with out younger son and see how things go. 7th grader wants to go to school so we’ll let him try that out and see how it goes. Maybe transfer him to home school after reevaluating his situation.

Good for you, and good luck. If you need any help with secondary Social Studies curriculum, hit me up. I'm credentialed in both CA and NV. (no CRT from me, LOL)

Circling back to this topic. How is home schooling going so far for your families that went this route this school year?

It's going pretty good. I get the updates daily about what they're working on. My 8 y/o is happy with it. My wife is not too stoked on the actual publisher of the curriculum but the cool thing is she can change it as they offer several different options. After last years total cluster fuck of home schooling by people that don't have a clue how to organize and facilitate home schooling (regular schools sending everyone home last year), my wife is a little over inefficiency and redundancy in tech. (example she's required to send in proof of work once a week I believe or once every other week and instead of just sending in a photo of the work they require her to convert the photo to PDF which requires an app and basically it's like 5 steps instead of just one, so that's a little frustrating). It sounds like since Ca. pulled funding for home schooling from the regular public school system, the schools will NOT be sending schools home again which is good news. Our kids regular school is a mile from our house on the beach and is like a private school so we're a little bummed he's not attending. I went there, our 27 y/o went there, our 12 y/o went there, our 8 y/o went there until the 3rd grade so....Wife's going to do the first tri-mester with home schooling and see how things go. Then decide if he should go back to regular school or just do the whole year at home. Kind've gonna asses the situation as we go. One huge problem is he fell behind a bit in math because last years "home schooling" via the public school system was a shit show and basically just boiled down to busy work to justify getting their money per student. So over the politics and FUCKED up Ca. school system.

However, our 7th grader is THRIVING in JR. High. Doing better than he's ever done in school. I think the different periods and teachers is good for him and I'm really not worried about any CRT infecting his brain since I have to tell him to take off the "Fuck Biden" hat and not hang Trump banners in his room.🤦‍♂️
