for the right bar. Quiet is better than loud, and hard to find these days. Looking for better than average food, and at least a decent cocktail. Some friends are coming in from out of state and I was hoping to be able to find a place near them that we could spend a couple hours swapping lies and reliving some of the good old days. We don't want to be rushed, and we are old and hard of hearing so a loud environment is not all that appealing. Are there any jazz or blues places around there? Any other interesting places like maybe a comedy club? I know Covid has really killed any live entertainment, but things do seem to be loosening up recently.

Sycamore Inn? Good food solid cocktails, relaxed atmosphere for a slow paced meal and not too loud. Should check most of your boxes.

Hero’s is a great spot for bar food and beer.
Union on Yale and Bardot’s is more upscale with good food. It is LA county. Not sure what the latest rules are.

Sycamore Inn was my first thought but I wasn't sure they were even around anymore. Looking at the menu, the prices have sure kept up with the times sadly.
I have been to Hero's and had a good time. Not familiar with Union or Bardots. I will certainly check them out online at least. Thanks for the tips.

It’s been a year since we left the area but we always ate from the prime time menu which was much more affordable. Not sure where things stand at this point.

Is piano piano still open in Claremont, that place used to be fun.
Just check their website, looks like they are requiring vaccines for entry 🙄

Edit, you said not loud 😁 wrong place for that

Old Town Claremont, Casa 425 cocktails, court yard usually has some type of musical entertainment. Back Abbey next door is always good for hanging out. Tutti Mangia for a good upscale meal and decent bar (reservations recomended) Bardot is decent but have not had good luck there lately. Union on yale is good too. Alll within walking distance of each other. Depending on day and time there is usually some type of entertainment. If they aee staying at the double tree. Piano Piano is right there and Elviras for Mexican in the same area. Meat Cellar is a other option north of Old Town.

Cask n cleaver in Rancho...
Good food reasonably priced, quiet, chill bar and hang as long as you like. Music?....bring a portable speaker. Haha
Magic lamp (upland) they used to be good but haven't been in a couple yrs. Ymmv?
When ever we want something really good we tend to go to other cities with a more active and diverse rest. Scene. My wife is always on the search for the next great rest.
We now have a great little sushi bar right down the street in Diamond Bar if your into that.

Gus's BBQ

Gus's BBQ if you like Southern food, the food is good and you can hear yourself think there. They also have a patio as well as inside seating. The Press was one of my favorite places in Claremont but it's still closed. I had lunch a couple weeks ago at Walter's and I remember seeing some information about a live band but I can't remember what type of music and which nights they had it.

I had a local tell me last week that Uno Tre Otto was the best food in Claremont. I tried to get last minute reservations for inside last Friday but they were booked. So I can't vouch for what I was told. It's probably around $100 a person so it's on the higher side. The owner's wife owns Amy's Farms so a lot of the ingredients are about as fresh as possible. They call it a true farm to table restaurant.

We do Claremont Often... This is what I would do if I wanted to stay in Claremont (downtown)
Casa 425, great cocktails and a decent/good small plate menu, but the setting is Really nice and outdoors. You can start with drinks there as they are not part of the whole dumb craft liquor craze yet. For Food in Downtown Upland...Heroes has great food, but their service has suffered, before you could literally be sat, served and pay the check in 3 minutes...now it will take you an hour to get a table and order the 1st round. Great setting, but not the best service. Eureka is always good, but then you have the whole craft beer/liquor deal... so we pass on that place. Bardot is a really nice spot with a full liquor line and an actual bar, food is somewhat on the snob scale, but good. Tutti Mangia is pretty awesome, but reservations are required....we dig it and enjoy it.....Downtown is cool as its very walkable after you are done. If the party still is still raging.... You can stick a nail in the night by Going to HI BROW...always the classy Dive Bar with stiff drinks and Touch Tunes to meet every desire, its actually a great little dive bar, i feel better about myself after leaving there. You also have Bucca De Beppo, Elviras Mexican food (classy interior and decent food) a few blocks away from DT Claremont. If you are good with going somewhere in the "area" Chases was mentioned and is a great spot, you also have Shogun Teppanyaki, great sushi and Teppan and great enviorment/Bar. Eddies is also pretty good and is in Claremont and close to HI Brow..>But beer and wine only..but good food. Good luck

In late January we ate at The Quarter - Creole Cuisine. If you like food like Jambalaya or Frog Legs this is the place. They had stopped having their Jazz Band because of Covid but they went live on Instagram last Tuesday and they brought the Jazz Band back. I think the band is only on Tuesdays and has a small cover charge. I would give them a call if your interested to make sure they are going to continue having the band.

We ate there a year ago, it was quite good. Then we heard they had possibly closed permanently due to the lockdown. Glad to see that wasn't the case. Live music cant be beat, glad to see it.

Went here last weekend and it was really cold inside they had all bar windows open loud and we sat in patio they have heaters but food got cold quick. On the positive the food was good but even on the patio the fricken speakers were too loud we couldn’t talk much.

I was there early Friday night, about 4-6 PM and late Monday night about 8-10 PM, they must turn up the music on Saturdays. They do open up the windows at the bar for the bar specials. They have two specials a 3 to 6 PM and a 8:30 PM to close special (two different menus). The 3 to 6 PM special is much better than the 8:30 PM to close special.
