So I am at the point with the barge that I need to decide on engine /hardware colors.
Every engine I have ever done has been Chevy orange (1) or black (too many to count ). So I have a crazy Idea that I want to paint engine/transmission metallic Silver , Powder coat brackets/mounts candy blue, exhaust metallic silver, stainless hardware and a few bits of polish/chrome.

Keep in mind that bilge will be black gell.

Too much?

My Boat is orange with med blue, light blue and gray pinstiping, white seats with orange piping. Chevy orange works great with that, chrome, and polished aluminum. Look at all the colors and see what brings it together...

I think that would look good. Especially if you could match the blue that's on your boat. My block is painted the same green to match the paint and piping on my seats and I personally love it. But that's just me

I think he silver with blue accents will look killer specially buried in a black bilge.

If you do a good job cleaning/smoothing the block anything you pick will look good. It's all in the prep.
Good luck and post a few project pics.

A lot of beautiful jewelry in this thread. I have always thought of engine compartments as jewelry boxes and the motors as diamonds.

Funny, a dude on Offshoreonly is re-doing his Cigarette and is going to paint the bildge all dark metallic grey and go dark blue highlights but mostly powder coated black parts (like headers) and even black chrome parts. So it'll be dark charcoal, dark blue and black. Should look pretty sinister. https://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/cigarette/356490-cigarette-topgun-14.html

I had the color mixed at the auto paint store just down the street, and it matched nicely. I used an etching primer, overlaid an epoxy primer, and did three color coats and three clear coats.

It held up fairly well over a ten year period. A 3/4" oval chip occurred at the sharp edge transition of the front of the block and the intake manifold surface, just below the water outlet. Other than that, the durability was good.

originally did the all black and polished theme... but my fingers got tired from all the rubbing.

trying a light grey theme this time, still gotta do the block and intake manifold.

hopefully all it needs is a quick wipe now to keep it clean.

^^^ I have a car that has a polished motor, and it's a PITA to keep shiny. If I ever pull it, it's getting a bunch of stuff PC'd. The polished blower motor in our last DCB was about an 8 hour job to polish after a weekend of getting misted with water. I am done with polishing stuff.

No kidding. If I had had any sense at all I would have sent everything to the polishing shop. I figured "No problemo, how hard can it be?"

Polishing all of the chiny parts of my 427 FE and all of the other aluminum parts in the photo posted above required about a month of evenings in my garage after work.

I hooked up two 2 HP compressors in tandem and powered them from separate 20 amp circuits to provide enough compressed air for the die grinder. I also bought a pedestal buffer for the larger parts and anchored it to the floor.

I hung a plastic sheeting curtain around my work area, but that didn't stop the migration of black stuff everywhere in the garage. The project was a huge pain in the ass, but everything looked awesome. Um, until I took the boat out a few times.

That's why v-drives stay on the trailer. :D

i would toss mine into the harbor here in huntington beach for a little cruise. it would end up looking like this:

Love the glitter boats!
I love all of the polish but am at a point of simple green, rinse blow and wipe!
