I was just playing the Beatles "Let It Be" on my iPad, plugged into my Bose stereo system, and I was thinking, this is the best rock and roll album in history....

The video is so cool, if you can get it, I think the first real music video, but the Beatles have never released the full movie video, but the music is so good.

Billy Preston on keyboards, "Let it be", one of the best songs ever, "Get Back", how can u not love that??

In the video, they end up playing on the roof of Abby Roads studio....

Anyway, buy this on iTunes and rock your truck....

I'm listening to it again....."Get Back".....

What the fuck are you taking about?

Their music sucked, and the music back then sucked ass?

As compared to who? Give us the baseline for your reasoning. Now, damnit :swear

I was never a Beatles fan, until I watched Anthology about fifteen years ago. It helped me understand the band and appreciate them musically. Suffice it to say, I'm now a big fan.

They had gobs of talent. I wonder what their songs written to number one hits ratio is. 4 or 5 to 1?

Don't like bubble gum pop? OK. That's not all they did. They did it all and they did it all very, very well.

I am not a real fan of the Beatles, with a few exceptions.
There music just didn't.
But this is why there are more than one artist out there, right?
I completely disagree with the concept that there was no good music in that era...I love about 85% of what Motown was putting out, and the list of bands and vocalists of that time period who's music I have tucked away on CD or vinyl is long. Very long.
I think the variety of music being put out back then was a helluva lot bigger, and more attractive than it is today.
Too much emphasis is put on videos and not studio work. Good music doesn't need a video to make you remember it and want to listen to it, the best music out there is listened to with one's eyes shut.
The MP3 format sucks, IMHO, and while I use an Ipod at the gym and sometimes in the boat, CD is way better...and vinyl is better than that.
Ya'all who are to young to remember slipping a new album out of the jacket and slipping onto a good direct drive turntable with a good "Shure" or other cartridge, setting the RPM to 33-1/3 manually with the stroboscopic light...then listening to the full range of the music come out of a good pair of B&O's, Klipsch's, UltraLinears, Cervin Vega's or other mid to high end speakers...ya don't know what yer missing.
And I feel sorry for ya fer that.

Let's see... they owned the buble gum pop charts until that type of music went out of style and it went out of style when they stopped recording it. They invented the concept album. In fact, they pretty much set the coarse for rock/pop music for a couple of decades. Even Elton John can't top that. In Elton's defense, he's more of a bottom.

Here's a caveat from the Billboard site.

"Paul McCartney's hits with Wings are credited to "Wings" even though many of them were released as "Paul McCartney & Wings". McCartney's total is only from hits not attributed to Wings nor the Beatles. If entries from The Beatles, Wings and McCartney were combined, his total of number one hits would be 29, making him the most successful artist in the history of the chart."

Not only that, Paul was dreamy.

Case closed.

Tom I have the "Wings over America" double album set :D It is still very playable.
I ain't saying they were not good, and "mellow" isn't a criteria. I still have T.Rex slider LP too.
I am just saying that their music, for me, just didn't.
It didn't, and still don't. As in I can take it or leave it. With a few exceptions...
As for Billboard charts etc....well, this ain't the first time them and I disagreed. Just because every other human being on the planet was buying someones music has never caused me to do so. Hell I liked Dexys Midnight Runner's before their stuff was for sale in the U.S. in '78.
Same with Big Country....

Paul and John were/are music genius. I'm not from that era per se, but I can appreciate their talent. They have a few songs that I really like, and quite a few I don't get. Then again I quit doing acid my Junior year of high school. There are some songs, just about anyone could hear (let's say over the age of 30) and they would know some of the words (at least the hook) and know its the Beatles.

Mike a friend with the Corners got me hooked on them. I have a pair of RFs, I think they are C-II's for fronts, the 400watt self powerd sub and the matching center channel. I am still driving an old pair of Ultralinear Studio Monitors for my rear channels, but the Klipsch's are wonderful in 2ch.

I hear you, Geno. My thoughts are somewhat similar.

I would contend, however, that listening to the remastered Sargent Pepper through a decent stereo is a completely different experience than hearing it in an elevator or on AM radio where we tend to hear Beatles music 99% of the time. It would be like dissing a band that you've only ever heard over the phone while on hold. You might like the music but it's not going to grab hold of you emotionally like the immediacy of an experience while paying attention to a great sound system.

Mostly, I wanted to work in that EJ line.

They weren't "rock" they were pop. Maybe it's the fact that they have played Beatles music everywhere for the last sixty years over and over and over and over and over and over ...........aaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggghhhhhhh. Make it stop!:rolleyes:D

I remember that well, buying a Shure cartridge from Licorice Pizza and sticking it on an old Gerard turntable the neighbor was throwing out. Voila, it works! Of course, it didn't replace the 8-track, but it definitely had better sound. :thumbsup

"Get Back" and "Let it Be" are two of my favorites.
Get them on a Digital Master CD and compare what you hear to what you get on a MP3...much better sound.

Licorice Pizza...man been a long time since I thought of them.
Gerard made some decent stuff for the price.
If I ever fall into a pile of cash I am gonna find me one of these.

You would know the state of the art then. I am not letting anything go. The Ultralinears amaze people, then I crank up the K's...
I've prowled a lot of Stereo shops (back when there was such a thing) and I don't think Klipsch has ever made a speaker not worth the $ they were asking for it. Ever.

When watching Jimi or Janice I cannot stop myself from wondering what they might have achieved if they hadn't destroyed themselves...same thing I feel watching Morrison. What a body of work they would have created.

The 20 or 30 year old Klipsch speakers are still considered the best speakers ever. Willie Nelson uses them for his stage monitors, he brings them on his bus every where he goes. I did the audio at ACL (Austin City Limits) last year, they wanted to use their regular monitors, he told them no, I want "My Klipsch" monitors. He won't play without them.

The Klipsch speakers are the best speakers ever made......

I guess some of you kids who weren't around in 1964 when the Beatles came here and appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show just cannot appreciate the cultural and musical shift they created and continued to create throughout the sixties. Suffice it to say that most of the great music that you listen to today was heavily influenced by that shift.

Always been a Beatles fan. If you wanna see something really cool watch "The making of Sgt. Peppers" on you tube. Theres about 5 of em to watch but its cooler than shit. Interviews with Sir George Martin sitting at the mixing board breaking down all the tracks.
I have this argument with people all the time about the Beatles and how they think they suck. Usually their idea of a good band is the Stones, the most OVERATED garage bands of all time. pretty much famous for just for being around .....like the Kardashians. And usually the people that think they are so good couldn't tell you the difference between a Strat or a Telecaster, they just follow the crowd.
