Have a new Yoder YS640s comp been playing with since thanksgiving. Loving it! Blows away my traeger but a total different price point too.

Oh and yes WiFi, is a whole different ballgame. Really cool all the features and control you have. I start stuff in the morning. Go to work and can check up on my cool, adjust temps etc.

I love my Green Mountain. Keeps good even heat and has been pretty much flawless. The one problem I did have, the heat sensor went out. One phone call to CS and had one in the mail two days later for free.

Call and talk to the guys at The BBQ HQ (805) 285-2618. They have a bunch of brands and can give you a pretty good idea based on your budget. Its hard to beat the Traeger they have at Costco right now. I think the camp chef is cheaper but not sure if they are good.

Bought this one at bi-mart about 3yrs ago for $300 and it hasn't had a single issue. I use it 2 - 3 times a week.

Lots of choices out there. I own 2 Traeger's and 1 Memphis, the Memphis is insane and great but the price point reflects it. My Traeger’s have been workhorses and you can’t go wrong with them. BBQ HQ is the place to call and get your grill.

I have the entry level camp chef pellet grill. I’ve been thinking of upgrading to one of their newer models (available with wifi) with the slide grille thing that allows you to get some more heat for grilling/searing. camp Chef has some nice features and usually a couple hundred less than everyone else.

I have a Memphis Pro but since it is at work I don't use it much, 304 stainless, I would let it go fairly cheap... No wifi, I used wifi thermometers...

Also take a look at the Rec-Tec smoker, in my opinion it's better built then a traeger and has a better warranty . The Yoders are bad ass made with thicker metal and the fire pot is off to the side making the smoke draft more. It's on a different price point but well worth it.

I would also check out the Webers new pellet smoker. I have heard great things about it.

Love this thread..

First lets buy a substandard product, but try to determine which is the best one, without determining a price point of that selection, without the key features functions and benefits that define the evaluation process..

LOL....

I want a sports car... between a used one at $10,000, or a brand new one at $10,000,000...

Can you be a bit more vague?

If you want low budget... Get a standard Weber Kettle Charcoal Grill 22” for $100, or used on craigslist for $25. ..

It will smoke everything you can on a pellet... and can be used as a grill... that a traeger cant... like 450 and above temps..

And you save a boatload of money, which can pay for years of charcoal, and the food will taste alot better and has twice the functionality....

I just watched Harry Soo's review on you tube of the new Weber and it does seem promising.

I personally went Camp Chef after research and talking to competition buddies. But I didn't but it as a dedicated smoker, I will always use my WSM for smoking real deal. But I wanted a pellet for everyday use and I've been extremely happy. Side by side to comporable Traeger and it wins hands down for less money.

So one of the first questions is do you want a pellet grill or a pellet smoker. They are different. I know many of them claim to do it all but in reality they only do a blend of both. Tregger style is a pellet grill that you can do some basic smoking with. I have a dedicated pellet smoker and it is a different animal.

What do you want to do exactly and what is your budget?

Here we go again.
The man asked about pellet smokers.

and he asked about doing on a budget... post number 1...
I showed him the cheapest way to solve the problem..

If he would have stated a price range of $200-$400, or any other values, my response would have been different...

now lets look at post #2... look at a yoder... trust thats not a budget grill at, its the exact opposite... extremely expensive....

which in my original post on this thread I was Lol... and it speak for itself..

How much do you need to cook at a time? Small medium or large group? Humm think that may have an impact on price..

Again thats why this thread cracks me up...

Not enough details of what he is looking for to truly answer the question...

He wanted budget, I gave advice and examples of budget...

I have the large Camp Chef and it's been perfect, will get to 700 degrees if needed. The Camp Chef's have a couple of features, fire box and pellet bin dumps, that I've not seen on others. No matter what you get, you'll enjoy it!

Another RecTec fan here. I have the Stampede with zero issues. The Wifi seemed silly, but when you can monitor temps while running to the store its nice

For the record, the Yoder has been able to do this for years. You can remove the plate above the fire box, crank it up and sear anything

Look into the Rec Tec line if grills. Great grills and an amazing company.

RecTec makes the Bullseye which even looks like a weber in shape for this purpose

Back to FFB (Featurs/Functions/Benefites) vs Pricepoints..

I know Yoders are very pricey, what does your cost new... like $1800 right?

I think the new Webers are also expensive for most, they will be $699 and $999 pending the size...

But I am going from memory on those numbers...

To me, those price points are bit far apart... If Weber gets the job done like a Yoder, why pay $1800...

If the Camp Chef Gets the job done, Why Pay over $500....

Which all leads back to the FFB of what the person wants/needs which typically equals what they are willing to pay....

my Pit Boss 700, about $300 on sale at Walmart occasionally. has a sliding plate over the firebox so you can sear and grill as well as smoke.

I agree, I had a few dents and scratches on the wifi module from shipping. She sent them an email, they called her back the next business day and shipped us a new one with a return label, no questions asked.

I have a good friend who lives in Austin, Tx that builds some over the top BBQ’s and smokers. These things are no joke. Check them out!

Here is a smoker he just finished for a client.

View attachment 826803 View attachment 826804 What about this Pit Boss from Lowes , $499 ! Looks nice in person .

I have the bigger one (1100 series i think it is) and also the pit boss 5 series vertical. I have been happy with both especially for the price. Like mentioned above they have a slide to open up the fire for searing, built out of heavier gauge steel then traeger. Gonna throw on some cowboy cut rib eyes in a little bit here.
The vertical has been good to i bought that as its small enough i can take camping or to the river. Used it thanksgiving to smoke my turkey held temp great while it was snowing on us in barstow

Which model do you have? I’ve got the entry level and it doesn’t get much over 400. Looking to move up to something else

Picked up a Pit Boss PB1000T2 available only at Tractor Supply Company, $399. Three reasons for their specific model:
1) bigger than most pellet smokers at the price point.
2) updated electronics, more reliable controls
3) 5 year warranty instead of typical 2 or 3 years.

TSC nails you for $100 shipping to store, which turned me off and made me really think twice, but that's on TSC, not Pit Boss. Overall it was an OK deal. Very happy so far with the performance so far. Still experimenting with rubs.
