A buddy of mine is lookin to buy a boat with under 200 hours on it. Sounds like a great deal the motor is a blown 540 built by Teague which is another huge plus. A leak down was performed on it and all cylinders came back at zero which is another huge plus!!! Buttt almost seems to good to be true what’s your guys thoughts?

Not possible at all. Have it verified or cylinders may be wet

I would have believed 10,6 and may have even be comfortable with 20 but zeros on all 8 had me scratching my head

Never does a leak down come back at zero! I would need to see that before I would believe it and bet it is Bullslot. 5-7 is a great number but rarely seen. Watch out for the smoke and mirror stuff! MLAO.

This ^^^ and blown big blocks with those numbers at 200 hrs would mean the hour meter ran when the radio was on.

Every ring leaks. They have gaps. Even gapless will leak a minimal amount. So I’m back to looking into what tool was used to measure and what was the process. Either way, I’m sure its decent[emoji1303]

Yes. And it really depends on what psi you use for testing, warm or cold, and the testers brains[emoji16]

There's no such thing as a 0% leak down engine. I would hazard to guess that somebody forgot to take the shredder valve out of the hose while performing the test. also a proper leak down should indicate whether the leakage is passing through intake, exhaust, crankcase, or any combination of the 3 per each cylinder.

Less than 10% is an extremely healthy engine. Less than 20% is passible.

I would get a 2nd opinion.

I agree. What’s interesting is the difference between blow-bye and windage! Perhaps we will do a tech article on that[emoji469][emoji1303]

I also recommend you check with the builder direct. Either way, you will get a sense of how to decide.[emoji1303]
