Can someone enlighten me on the appeal of these?

They don’t tow well.
They don’t Offroad very well.
They have bad mpg.
They cost more than a 1-ton Dually.

What am I missing?

They ride great for those trips to the mall.

I like them and they look awesome but would never own one for all the reasons you listed.

A generic F150 with King shocks will ride great on the street for $30k less than a standard Raptor.

How can you say they dont off-road very well? What are you comparing it to off-road wise?

Here’s what you’re missing:
Best riding factory truck on and off road
Best off roading full size truck from the factory
Talking about MPG or cost of a truck these days is also silly

They may be better than other “stock” vehicles, but far from a good off-roading vehicle.

Except for their width they're an excellent off roading vehicle especially for what they're designed for, open washes and trails. If it can fit it will go anywhere any other 4 door full-size pickup will go off road

They don't fit on "Jeep trails" and yes, 2FF, a SxS is better than everything else 🤣

Think of Raptor R‘s like perfectly shaped D size breasts.

The life support system can sometimes be troublesome and high maintenance.
They aren’t real comfortable for the owner to haul around.
They eventually become “L” for long.
They cost more than any thing you can imagine.

But they are very appealing…..

.000001% of these will ever see dirt.
Mine sees dirt every time I tow my trailer with my offroad vehicle offroad. 🤣
The Platinum with those skimpy sidewall Pirelli Scorpion A/T (Not A/T)
How fast can a stock Raptor go over a rough 2 track w whoops?

15? 20?
About 90 according to my neighbor who does their desert R&D, the trick is, deflate the tires, put a little weight in the bed, and don't let up.
The trick as I'm sure you're aware, is the accelerating to that and decelerating out of it.
The truck is amazing offroad, assuming you're talented enough to drive it as it's true potential will allow.
The speeds you stated would be the least desirable in that condition.

And yes, I've witnessed his videos, that's the fun part having him as a neighbor, I get to see the shit very few ever will.

One of his tricks he shared the other day is --- Baja Mode (For the better shit program, plus much quicker turbo boost, as it doesn't truncate the acceleration power as much), complete deactivation of traction control (Not just partial), then manually switch the 4WD mode back to 2WD drive and let her rip.

We are buying trucks to go down washes and fire roads now? Ya, no thanks.

This should give us a good idea about the market.

Well for any new 5.0 F150 you can add the $12k FP700 package and retain the factory warranty when installed by the dealer…

It will walk a Raptor R.

I’ve also read that you can just do the supercharger for 10k if you don’t want the rims and other add ons.

They can ask, but going on CarGurus and searching nationwide will probably get you one at MSRP.

My local ford dealer here in MI will order it and sell it for MSRP....I get fleet pricing through my work on the big 3 and they won't honor that on a Raptor R but will sell it for retail. Just bought a silverado LTZ from their sister dealer(same owner) a few months ago and they gave me fleet discount pricing...market is finally coming back to some sort of reality around here at least. The inflation in general will never go away unfortunately....the days of a brand new 50 thousand dollar truck with good options are long gone but the price gouging over retail has stopped at least.

Wonder how your local dealership enjoys having a Carlsbad Ford Dealer, like Ken Grody as a perfect example --- buying it at retail, trucking it to CA and adding a tidy $ 50K if not more, and selling it as it as fast as it rolls off the the hauler ?
When you look at the window stickers of the line of Raptors and far more rare R's on his lots, most all are from dealers east of the Mississippi.
Without a doubt, he's got the largest number of Ford specialty vehicles of any and all CA dealers for this reason.

Just wait a few more weeks , these high dollar trucks are all being repo’d at a historical rate , and hitting auctions like crazy . Another 6 months and they will be calling YOU to buy . Nobody should pay anything over msrp

My current F-150 cost less than just the Additional Dealer Markup on this truck. LOL o_O :eek:
I waited seven years to get my '18 Raptor as I refused to pay the markup. Thankfully, as much as I'd enjoy the Vroom Vroom factor of the R, it's appetite for sucking mass quantities of hydrocarbons makes it undesirable for my casual needs.
I know, I know, go be poor somewhere else. 🥴;)

I'd own one of those right now simply for no rational reason other than putting a big grin on this old face.
However, screw the project engineer who despite most others being in disagreement, decided NOT to offer an alternative seat that doesn't crush your fucking nuts.
But then go figure, the he-bitch weighs all of about 95 lbs soaking wet. 🖕

So kudos to your good friend and may God Bless his precious family jewels. 😁😉

Raptors are status symbols the way Beamers used to be. Same reason people lift their trucks, pointless, but man it makes you look cool!
