Juist a reminder debuts this Sunday on Paramount +.
Looks really good. But I refuse to sub to 37 different channels anymore.
It barely follows documented history. That’s the turn off for me.Enjoying the first 2 episodes, but Sheridan's writing is getting a bit formula-matic. A lot of this show, so far, has being plucked from 1883 and Hell or High Water.
It barely follows documented history. That’s the turn off for me.
He took one of the more interesting figures from western history, and turned him into a fictional mini series vehicle.
Well, yes and no.I thought it was good. It’s a tv show, if you want to watch a documentary, then watch a documentary. Since history’s record of a person like Reeves was probably barely documented and 100 percent hearsay, this is just another version made for entertainment.
Well, yes and no.
Bass Reeves law career is heavily documented, as official gov record.
His slave years not so much, although the Reeves family history is heavily documented for generations upon generations. That family was of English nobility and traced back for centuries. In America the Reeves family history continues as a major name, a huge name in Texas history.
Bass Reeves was born Bass Washington, and he was owned by Reeves Sr.
He was taken to texas at age 8.
George Reeves (and the Reeve name in general) is a major name in Texas History. Politician, tax collector, Grayson Sheriff and on and on. (Pecos is in Reeves county…)
That’s the son and the Major we see ordering Bass around in episode one.
But in real history George (the son) did take Bass with him into the civil war as a confederate. But he was not a Major, he ended up a colonel (and one of the longest standing colonels in the war) and he didn’t get “dismissed”, he resigned his commission.
And the part where Bass kills him his 110% fiction and a travesty of truth.
George Reeves died at the Texas mansion from rabies, locked in a padded room, nearly 20 years after Bass was a free man.
Thats a hell of a stretch to portray Bass as his murderer when it was a rabid dog that did him in.
The truth is that no one knows exactly how Bass gained his initial freedom, but he ended up officially free in 1865 due to the 13th.
I can’t watch it and keep yelling at the TV “that’s not what happened!!” Lol
If Sheridan took this much liberty rewriting history in the first 40 minutes, I can’t imagine what he’ll do to fuck up the truth when Reeves starts killing peoples, gets charged with murder or when his son goes to jail.
He should have changed the names and claimed it “loosely based on” rather than call it Bass Reeves.
So him beating George was a fantasy scene? You should have watched the last 20 minutes.
Bass comes back to the plantation and Reeves' wife tells Bass that Reeves isn't there and fancies himself a legislator now. So a smidgen of history is preserved.
I’ll have some whiskey tonight and give it another shot.I wasn’t 100 percent sure he killed him, I almost thought they left that open to interpretation. The other three on the horses he obviously killed in the show, whether he did that in real life or not, I think it was just drama to show how hard it was to escape to freedom.
So him beating George was a fantasy scene?

That’s the way I saw it. I thought he killed him until they show him coming back to the plantation. You should have watched the last 20 minutes.

Yeah I know. It’s a tv show Tommy. Maybe it stirs up some interest in the factual events of Bass’s life.
So him beating George was a fantasy scene?
OkNo, she also says that Bass doesn't have to fear Reeves because Bass beet him like an old dog. The scene takes all of 30 seconds but ties up that loose end.
So him beating George was a fantasy scene?
Yeah I watched it today. He didn’t kill him.. it says it later
I watched shameless back when I had DTV, might binge it again.I loved SOA until the end seasons where people were dying in droves..
Yellowstone was great and the spin offs were good.
This one is ok.. but yeah I tend to agree with your thoughts on it.
If ya want to watch something that is good and straight “intense”. Watch “Your Honor”. It’s on the magic box.. I just finished it and was disappointed they didn’t go more than two seasons.
If you’ve never watched shameless.. get through a couple episodes and after that you will be a couch potato for like six months. lol
I watched shameless back when I had DTV, might binge it again.
I’ll try “your honor”.
I’ve already got 2 boxes. LolYour Honor is on a showtime. You could pay for one month, binge watch all their series you want to see, and shut it off for 10 bucks. No need to buy a 300 dollar magic box. Your Honor stars Bryan Cranston, who’s good in everything he does.
Showtime has Billions, Homeland, George and Tammy among others that are binge worthy.
Lioness and Mayor of Kingstown are really good Sheridan shows that aren’t westerns. Randomly I’ve been to Kingston, which that show is loosely based off of. Kingston is where all the big prisons are in Canada. My wife randomly does choreography for a dance studio there once a year, or did until we had kids. I would go and drive around for a week exploring with nothing else to do.
Admiral Halsey I liked Water World lol.Yeah I watched it today.
Still, It’s all fiction.
I guess if you’re Taylor Sheridan you can just make up whatever you want and sell it.
But if I’d never heard of Bass Reeves and had no idea who he was I’d find this show to be a hell of a lot better than his other shows.
Can’t stand Yellowstone or the spin off.
Couldn’t watch 3 episodes of SOA.
Am I the only person in America who thinks Sheridan is a peddler of mediocrity? Lol
But I watched these 2 episodes today and found them pretty good as long as I set aside the facts and just enjoyed the production, like Paul said.
The baseline is correct, sort of.
But when there’s a gap in Reeves history it’s sort of wrong to just make up shit as theatrical drama and sell it under Reeves name, imo of course.
Records show that Reeves arrested over 3000 fugitives, and only killed 14 of them.
Sheridan has him killing half that many men before even putting on a badge.
All of that is made up.
Artistic license only goes so far.
It’s like calling waterworld a show about admiral Halsey…
Me too.Admiral Halsey I liked Water World lol.

I grabbed another new one Saturday just because Mike was in town. The magic boxes you get everything.. lol. And no mo they bill. I’m still runnin 2 M1 boxes from years ago and an M3 in the garage.
It isn’t pirated.RDP.... "KILL ALL THIEVES"
RDP...."GO BE POOR SOMEWHERE ELSE"
also RDP...."FREE PIRATED CABLE IS AWESOME"
Yeah I watched it today.

Yeah.Oh so this is from the same guy that did Yellowstone??
Thanks for that info. I'm out.
Yeah.
I think I’m the only one who can’t stand Yellowstone.
Sorry, but not every line of dialog from Kevin Costners mouth could ever be that poignant.
It’s like all my children but in cowboy boots.
Bass reeves was actually written (created) by Chad Feehan.
He’s a fiction writer best known from his work on Banshee and Ray Donovan.
So it’s no surprise it is what it is, with him scripting and Sheridan producing.
Feehan always reminded me of a bald Walton Goggins. Lol
LolNope, it's not just you.
It was nuthin but a day time soap opera to me.
Who killer JR???
Here’s a list of his other TV shows. Did you like any of them.Oh so this is from the same guy that did Yellowstone??
Thanks for that info. I'm out.
I’ve had 3 magic boxes. None has lasted more than 6 months. I have 7 smart tvs. I’m not buying 14 magic boxes a year. I’ll just pay for what I want to see so I know it works. I don’t have to reset or reboot or search for streams. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
You must have the worst luck in the world because I run these things for years at a time..
Check out The Lioness. It’s not a western. More of a war type showNope. Not a one.
Don't even recognize most of those.

I guess I missed the reason why some of the inmates don’t like Sheridan. I don’t see these shows as soap operas. Btw I also like Cabin Masters. . New show tonight on the Magnolia channel with Chip and Joanna. They’re remodeling a huge commercial building in Waco.If it's the same writer, I'll pass.
I never did care for soap operas.
I'd rather watch Cabin Masters and Bobby Flay!
When you say they fail, what exactly does that mean?Apparently, the last one literally lasted 2/3 months.
Me neither.Nope. Not a one.
Don't even recognize most of those.
