In Havasu: total rust through: need recommendations on either a rebuild or new.

<was hoping not to break bank>

Any suggestions are welcome !

Good luck with the search. I know a guy that was looking at my 29’ nu era wanted a custom trailer and got a quote from Adrenalin for a triple axle. It was right around 20k.

Saw a used Magic trailer at Saleen tonight. Nice trailer. Don’t think it’ll be cheap.

I would consider going to Adrenalin and see about getting a used one if you want to stay tight to a budget. A lot of people go in there and want fancy trailers when nothing is wrong with theirs. Maybe they can take a solid one off a 28’ cat and do some modifying on the bunks to fit your needs. A lot cheaper than a custom new one.

I thought they’d be way out of my budget. I’ll venture over there. Already went to Shadow

Not sure what the deal is over at the new car lot across from Bradley chevrolet on the lake side of the highway. However seems like there is a boat trailer or 2 there. Idk if they are just using them for advertising but maybe worth a shot 🤷‍♂️.

Can you just cut out and replace those rusted cross members?? Rattle can them with some Rust-Oleum until you decide if you wanna paint it??

@cj222 could probably help, but he's in Pomona.

It’s the axel & every x-joint. Trailer is history

I just put tires on & replaced fenders as well. That was a huge hit. Hoping to modify a used cat trailer to fit. 🙏

If its one or both axles and the every x joint which I assume you mean the 2x6s going perpendicular with the main frame it can be put back into place (which it dosent look like it needs to be) and plated/gusseted in those areas and made usable for some time until time permits to make things correct.

Axles are torsion and that center area that shows a crack can be “fixxed” but I would imagine most shops in havasu should have that axle or axles with the same dimensions. Just replace them if you have the option to. If it dosent work they can be welded and repaired to last the season if done properly.

Once they’re this far gone they cost a lot to make them safe and that will only be temporary.

I would fix it to be honest. Problem is taking the boat off.
Well you could drop the boat in the lake somewhere and pay for a slip rental and then let the trailer guy have the trailer for a day or two.

I’m about ready to do this for Shadow to let them have the trailer for the day without the boat.

I was told that the “fix” is only temporary as all x:members are rusted & 1 axel has a crack in the middle. If I fixed, it’s temporary

That’s a crack in the axel. And every x member is rushed through. I tow from Tahoe to Havasu (single female) and would hate to get stuck.

Believe those belong to Pedro at Saleen, he’s now a dealer for Extreme. I know they start around 10k but they’re new not a rebuilt trailer.

I talked to him. He never mentioned he was dealer 4 Extreme. There has to be a way to get me fixed up without $10k 😞

I’m at Havasu Springs. I have a slip. Who would fix it ? I’ve had D1 Performance in town say it’s pretty rusted through & through. There’s a crack also on 1 axel

Mine wasn’t rusted through, and the axles were fine. I did all the work down to all new break lines. I try not to rember such things but it was north of $6k. Pacific trailer said $5k to do it but probably not as good as I did.

You were camped next my friends last year . Nice boat. You could solve both our problems if you just sold the boat to me
Thanks: luv my boat : hate to be taken advantage of ! Seems everywhere I turn, someone gives me a wallet-ache. (Determined to succeed, though )🫶🏻

@N Richards

@cj222

I know I tagged you earlier in this thread, but maybe you missed it. He would be the first person I called to see what options you have. 👍

The trailers x bars are all rusted & 1 axel gas a crack. Trailer is 20 years old
I had an Extreme trailer under a Lavey and another boxed steel trailer under a Fountain that went to the ocean, once the rust started you couldn’t stop it even if it was going to fresh water. I fixed and replaced axels, cracks, and anything else I could get to only to have other stuff fail. Both trailers became high maintenance and not completely trust worthy which defeated the reason I go boating. Good luck with whatever you do, I know your pain.

Wish I had pics of my old marine stadium boat, I would show you what rust through looks like, one cross bar just fell out basically. I don't see anything in pics I would be too worried about, for the price of a new trailer i would run it, maybe do the couple really bad pieces.

This was our experience as well with our 21'. After the original trailer went, I had a new one built. Eventually it had to be rebuilt as well. Boat was used 99% in fresh water. After the rebuild the boat was sold. When I bought the Formula, the original Eagle trailer was showing serious signs of age. One of the first things I did after getting it home was order a new trailer from Manning. Expensive? Yes!! Peace of mind? Worth the price. Not promoting any builder here, just the peace of mind when hauling.

I’ll just weld a gusset to it. Easy band aid imo.

Exactly the same experience. Worrying while towing is not relaxing.
