70+ degrees today...then straight to lows in the low 20's. Suicide watch has definitely begun. 😩

Looks pretty nice out for a Michigan November day.

As for the ship:

USS Edson was named for Major General Merritt "Red Mike" Edson USMC (1897–1955), who was awarded the Medal of Honor (while serving as Commanding Officer of the First Marine Raider Battalion on Guadalcanal) and the Navy Cross and Silver Star for other actions in World War II.

Merritt Edson was a respected battalion CO of the 1st Marine Division during the 1942 fight for Guadalcanal. This was the first US invasion of Japanese held territory in the Pacific, and the fight for the island was savage.

He led a night battle action in the hills above Henderson Field, the only airstrip on the island, that stopped a suicidal Japanese assault and kept the field in possession of the Marines. As the caption above states, Edson was awarded the Medal of Honor for his leadership under fire.
