What are you prepping it for? Paint or tiles?

Thanks

how do you work around the posts to the steps? I'd want to do it but don't want to move gunsafes and file cabinets. Can you just sawcut the slab around them to create a break line?

If you ever want to do some epoxy floors in So Cal I'd be the first on the list. My garage is in need.

I do a urethane and polyaspartic system.
Diamond grind for prep. I just started around the steps now.

Ditto, wished I was on yours though. Full existing epoxy removal with new Factory1 epoxy and crushed quartz for nonskid, going in a local brewery. Layers and layers of old epoxy from past companies just going over old. Sometimes I want to just find the previous contractor and kick them square in the nuts. Enjoy your day Hula and just remember its the last floor for 2019. That's what I keep telling myself when I tear up.

Urethane base coat with 1/4" flake broadcast to rejection. Then it'll get a polyaspartic clear coat.

This concrete is 11 years old and is just starting to get spalling from the salt that melts off the vehicles.

Well, I’m the lucky guy getting the last floor of the year. Now that the StressEliminator boat factory is a thing of the past, I’m finishing my garage the way I intended when we built the house 11 years ago.

Hula was the lead man on building my house, we became friends and he never left...:D There’s no one on the planet that knows more about the ins and outs of my place, and he’s partaken in a LOT of shop time in my garage, now it’s his turn to make something cool.

I’ve seen a bunch of his floors, but after stopping by his own shop, I had to have some too. Pictures really don’t do them justice.

My floor will be the same color as the HulaHut, because it looks that nice. My 3rd bay was set up with flat concrete for my chassis jig, so that is getting vinyl tile that will butt against the polyaspartic, so we’re laying some sacrificial tiles that will allow Hula to build up level with them, so rolling cherry pickers and engine stands won’t be an issue.

As far as I’m concerned, Hula’s got a big belly and a big white beard!:D

Not gonna lie, I’m pretty stoked to see this thing finished! It’s been a long time coming...

Surprised you don’t have a way to do that standing. Hours on your knees can’t be very fun.

I’m not sure if this is all you do as i saw some insulation stuff as well but why not but some blasting equipment or walk behind grinders? I get the need for higher power but the speed and ease on your body would be so much better

I opted for the coated curb (slight upcharge, but an awesome finishing touch). Here’s the start of the actual coating journey.

After the curb was coated it got flaked, then we laid our sacrificial tiles to establish the edge.

At this point almost the entire floor is coated. Hula has to do a fast-paced dance in his special spiked clogs to keep from getting thick and thin spots, as well as noticeable edges. He’s not afraid to bark out orders for what he needs, because time is of the essence with chemicals that are reacting with each other.

He explained the entire process of everything we were going to do, the order of events, and exactly how long each step would take, as well as what we needed to keep an eye on.

Every move is carefully planned, right down to how to dispose of all the tools coated with reacting chemicals; exactly nothing was left to chance. He had buckets, boxes, marked buckets, and boxes of flake all staged exactly how he wanted them.

After the entire floor had the amount of material he wanted on it, he broadcast flakes to cover every square foot of the floor. He carried the coating all the way past the door to where the garage slab ended.

We left the garage door open about an inch to keep the heat in but not crush or stick the area under the door. It’s 19° here now, but my slab is heated, as we put in-floor heat in when we poured the garage. That’s one of the best moves I’ve ever done; it’s really even and silent. The slab is warm all the way through, including past the door, as the snow is always melted off it.

It looks bitchin even without the clear. I can’t wait to see the final results tomorrow!

So that explains why there’s no landing railing....:D Fine looking job....

Actually, the landing railing was removed for the holidays to get my MIL into the house. She’s had two strokes and can’t make it up the stairs, causing her to not be inside our house in years. It finally hit me one day this fall that I could use my 4-post hoist. My wife and in-laws were ecstatic that we could have holidays at our house again, and it’s been great.

^^^what he said^^^

Plus, it’s about impossible to clean my entire garage out in winter weather. It was bad enough moving it all into the 3rd bay.

Just think, I get to move it ALL again to put it away and get the 3rd bay ready for tile...

looks outstanding!
Same here for my Havasu house. Got a company that does it in Havasu. Not a bad price. Probably have to get a storage unit for a month with all the toys and crap I have . :D

Floor looks awesome! Yeah it is a PITA moving stuff out. Easier to knock out on move in if possible. I like running floor scrubber on surface stays super clean.

Hopefully your friend now understands what it takes to get these epoxy floors done correctly. Lots of Labor but well worth it in the end. No HD shit here.

Just finished a crushed quartz floor for a small kitchen and freezer for a local brewery. Existing epoxy removal (3 layers of old stuff) crack/divot repair. Laid out the main rooms with the Factory 1 MVR epoxy (holds back 8-12 lbs mver) crushed quartz in gray to full rejection and cap coated the quartz with our F1 dark gray high gloss epoxy. The owner wanted the freezer room done only with clear coat so things can slide easily.

Now it's beer thirty!!!!!!!
