Kyle and Hayley are my good friends. I've been very close to the family for years. I am a Bishop in the Mormon church and this sweet couple and their baby are in my congregation. Kyle works with me in service at church. I've been at their bedside all day yesterday and today. Helping them say goodbye to their boy yesterday in ER. This is gut wrenching and hits close to home.

I'll be building the casket in my shop and due to my role at church I'll probably be conducting the funeral service in a few weeks.

Donate if you feel inspired to help. Thank you RDP. Prayers on their behalf would be appreciated. If you donate to the GoFundMe PLEASE direct message me or comment here so I can express direct appreciation and gratitude for you.

Go Fund Me

If you prefer donations go directly to them you can venmo me and I'll get it to them. Whatever you're most comfortable with. Venmo @Jdunnalp phone # 71four 93six 894five

I pray the parent's bodies can heal, and their hearts find some peace amongst the chaos. As a parent or grandparent, we cannot even fathom their pain😔

😢 absolutely horrible. RIP little angel.

This hits very close to home after having a drunk driver go through my driveway a few weeks ago. That very easily could have been my family . I can’t imagine the pain those parents are going through right now, it literally breaks my heart. 😔💔

We pass by this spot multiple times a week to go to our Church, the ribbons at the area will always keep them in our prayers.

J Dunn,

There is nothing I've experienced that comes close to this kind of tragedy. The sudden loss of a child carries pain beyond imagination. Every single fatality I dealt with where a child was lost is burned into my brain like a branding iron was used. I can't imagine it being any different for you, and the clergy that try to help the survivors find a way to pick up the pieces, to see light again in what has become a very dark world for them.
The saying that, "time heals all wounds" is comforting thought. The truth is time heals nothing, it just allows for a scar to develop on the injury, covering the outside of the wound, but it does nothing for the pain, the emptiness, the trauma...that remains under the scar.

This couple will be in my thoughts and prayers in the coming days.
As will you, sir. And the people who handled the situation...

I appreciate all the well wishes. I checked in on them again this morning and they're mending well. Hayley will have physical therapy today to help her walk. Fortunately breaks in pelvis are not in weight bearing locations but she needs to practice walking through the pain to get released from hospital.

So, thank you for all the comments! Thank you for all the prayers! Thanks to all of you that donated via GoFundMe. This is a fellow boating family. They have a houseboat in a slip at Antelope on Lake Powell.

As for Venmo, I wanted to report here.
Thank you to:
JB
ZB
AH
RM
CP
for a total collected so far of $575. I'll be transferring that tonight directly to Kyle's venmo account.

You all are wonderful people for your giving of your resources, your thoughts and your prayers. Kyle and Hayley feel the love and support of the community buoying them up. Long way to go for healing the hearts. Thankfully they have a very close support group of friends and family that will continue to help and support.

Much love and appreciation to you all, thank you.

Just read that he was booked and released with zero bail and no charges filed 🤬🤬🤬
If that was my only child I’d be on a manhunt. Fuck that POS he doesn’t deserve to live to see the light of day. Just like that little girl that was killed at Parker this last summer. That POS isn’t locked up either. Probably still drinking and driving. The Idiot that was drunk that went through my front yard could have killed my family or someone else’s and because the cop didn’t want to do his job that night he walked free and was not punished for his actions. It’s scary that you can pretty much do w/e you want and have no consequences anymore.

I have three kids...I don't think it would matter much if it were my only, or one of. In this scenario though, the parents are not only grieving the loss of the child, but also, I'm sure, worried about sick about their spouse as well.

It sounds as though they have a good group surrounding them, and hopefully able to bring some form of comfort. When the world crashes down, and you're confined to a hospital bed, those friends and family may be all that keeps you sane.

Trust me if it was either one of my kids I would want to, but if I had a second child or more, I would not be on a manhunt because I couldn’t imagine not being able to be around to take care of my family and be a part of their life and watching them grow.

I must honestly say, it would be a tough decision. My kids are rapidly approaching adulthood, quite honestly their mother is a much better person than myself, debts are paid... It's a sliding scale, each one of us has a different point, and a different situation.

These are people I don't know. In effect, images on a screen. Yet telling my wife about this last night, I found myself tearing up a bit. It wasn't long ago we were pushing our first in a stroller, walking the neighborhood. Fairness is not something common in our world. A child is lost, parents, both injured and grieving, yet the one in the wrong walks free. I do believe in "karma", or that we all pay for our sins in some way. Hopefully those who don't face a reckoning here and now, will pay for the sum of their ills later. At least we can hope.

Asked a good friend from church to help with a simple announcement and he drew this all original from one profile pic of Madden. And he formatted this and had it back to me in less than 24 hours.
So much talent, so much love.

I'm glad they're out. Battered and bruised, but not broken. Physically, yes, but not in spirit.

Sorry, I know this is not boating content. More of a community support post.

This isn't perfect. Making design selections and creating details on the fly lends to less than perfect outcome but I'd say only another woodworker would be able to spot my follies. Paint is wet in these pics so it looks glossy. It will dry with a satin or low sheen finish, not flat but very minimal sheen or gloss. I've asked a friend from church to make white satin lining and bed for inside.

We're putting hardware on now. I'll post a photo tomorrow when I deliver it.

You either believe in God or believe in Karma.
I don't think it has to be one or the other. Maybe God asks the universe to settle the scores, or the universe takes it upon itself.

Seeing the casket that is being built, I have many emotions aside from sadness for the child, and the family left behind. I still feel anger towards the one who caused this pain. I also feel respect for the skills involved in the construction, but also for the ones who can create and build something with that meaning. I don't know if I have the skills in general, but I know for certain I could not focus any talents during a situation of this gravity. I've done my best work during stressful times. That work was done as therapy really. That work though, has never been for the situation causing the strenuous times.

@J DUNN , you and others in your congregation have my respect as well as my condolences. Completing tasks at hand during times like these is already difficult. The tasks being completed are far from easy, even in less somber times.
