I have a buddy that has been posting pics of his new "Lamborghini" on Facebook, and he's really proud of it. I wouldn't normally question the authenticity of this car but I've shown this pic to some of my buddies at work (one that has owned Lamborghini's) and they all say it's a kit car. He's doing a whole bunch of work to it too, like ripping out the dash, paint etc.. Stuff you wouldn't normally do to a expensive Italian sports car.. Something about those wheels and the mirrors don't look right, maybe a Fiero.. lol You think it's real or a kit car?

It's a kit. Easy way to see, look at the little port window behind the door. Lambo does not have one in that shape.

Bolt pattern on the bottom lambo pic shows a larger lug bolt circle.

Hard to say, but the dash and that 1/4 window look like they are from a second generation Fiero. The dash "hood" above the instrument cluster on a Mercielago is arched. That one appears to be an old school Pontiac blocked/square hood. Ask for a pic of the dash because you want to see how high the speedo goes :D

The offset on the wheels is completely different, yet the tires are in the same place. Cannot be the same the chassis... Also, as Jeremy (Top Gear BBC) would say, the big American marker lights are a clear give-away.

No matter how much money and time you put in one of those kits, it's still not a Lambo or even close......To each their own but in my opinion, calling it a Lambo is just making a fool of one's self. If ya gotta do it, call it a "Lambo Kit".:rolleyes

I would introduce him to RDP and then you should start a call out thread where we all berate him and make him feel like shit and then you "unfriend" him on Facebook. :p

How is that different than any other newbie? :D

Did you tell people it was a real cobra?

Not the same thing comparing Cobra kits to Lamborghini's IMO....

Yeah, two totally different situations. Kit Cobra is completely acceptable IMO. A Lambo kit is lame, especially when you are trying to say its a real Lambo.

Some Cobra kits are nice cars. We have a company that does real nice Porsche speedster replicas called Intermeccanica (sp?) they are around $70K for a new one. Friend growing up Dad has two real Cobra's, a 427 and 289. Even in the 80's, he got nice kits whenever he took them out. His father was a ford dealer and ordered them new. Nobody wanted them in the 60's or 70's here, so they kept them.

The speedster kit place: http://www.intermeccanica.com/ Excellence the Porsche magazine praises these cars as the closest thing to an actual speedster.

I agree on Cobra kits. Cobras in reality were kind of kit cars as the originals borrowed an AC body and the frame was fabbed and drive train was from Ford. Kits are more a generational improvement package using technology to make a better car.

The body style and major dimensions remain to keep the original idea intact.

The Lambo kit is more of a body to make something look like the original. Whole different deal.

Cobras have many kit formed vehicles that have exceeded the originals by a bunch.

Whole different deal entirely....

So out of curiosity, how much do those "Lambo kits" run? I haven't had a chance to stop in, but there is a shop (2 bays, one of which is a truck wash.....weird to say the least) in Simi Valley that I always see the kits sitting outside. Some fully done, some partially.
