I just wanted to mention that Lake Silverwood is at max. capacity as a result of the Lake Oroville flooding. There are nice beaches available around the lake and the facilities are in good condition. They also allow boats with o.t. headers with at least water running thru them as evidenced by the boat I saw running around yesterday. There will be a road closure (hwy138) coming up the end of the month for a couple weeks but other than that it is good to go. If you're not familiar with the lake it's a nice lake, decent size and typically has pretty good fishing too. The water condition has returned to safe normal condition per their statements. If your looking for a local day trip this one is definately worth the trip.

I always liked Silverwood....gets a lil blown out sometimes, but it's cool. Gotta get there early for one of good beaches. Not too many of them. Reservations a must.

So how does Silverwood and Oroville have anything to do with eachother?

Welllll they are only about 500 miles apart... Sssooo perhaps they diverted the water... lol... I have no idea what OP meant.

This is what I was curious about also. How are they connected?

Silverwood is man-made and primarily fed by the aqueduct, which gets a lot of its input from Oroville.

It's connected by the Feather River project, the San Joaquin River via the 444 mile Calif. aqua-duct, and the East fork of the west fork of the Mojave River. I assume as a result of the N. Cal rains and subsequent flooding etc. all lakes/reservoirs connected to the Cali. aqua-duct are in the same hi/max water capacity condition too? ( at least hope so) I know you guys are on top of the Orville Dam situation too. It's great to see all the lakes filling up again, hopefully they will remain that way for many years to come.

Me too. In high school (1980's) a couple of my buddies and I would grab my dads truck/boat, some buds n beers and be on the water by 2:00 in the afternoon and ski our asses off till dusk. Always a good time. It can get breezy in the afternoon but we could always get some good water on the left side of the main channel, the hillside blocks the wind pretty well if you stay in closer to shoreline. It gets toasty there in the summer time. The lake elevation is 3300' and change. It was beautiful yesterday.

I live just down the hill from Silverwood and use to work up there in the late 70's. Weekends are busy and without a reservation getting in is tough. If you have any water in your boats bilge or outdrive what so ever you will no get in and they will have you raise and lower your outdrive to see if any water drips out and It doesn't matter if the water is from your garden hose. They will also check your life vests and if the are wet your not getting in.

hope..full..E.

I haven't been there in almost 30 yrs. I was pleasantly surprised to see the quality of the facility improvements for the time frame, but very pleased to discover the water level. Possibly a new test n tune lake other than smellsomemore. The road construction appears they are going to bypass (straighten) the winding switch backs in the first section of the road leading from the 15 fwy.

Was just telling Justin today that since we will be a little handcuffed in the summer with the new baby I want to do a day trip to Silverwood.

If I stay in Apple Valley overnight, how far is the drive??

DVL comes from the Colorado River Project
They haven't put CRA water in DVL for years. Probably since the whole quagga and zebra mussel discovery. As of my last shift, we were stuffing DVL with 850 cfs of State swamp...error project water.

30 mins, max. If you like sushi, stop at Silverwood Sushi on Hwy 138 when you're done. Excellent spot, family run...

Really sushi off the 138...love the number but I have spent a bit of time up in that area in my early years, I know things have changed but sushi really?

haha that's what I said (actually said wtf?) as we drove by "sushi out here"? But the parking lot was full on our way in @ 2:00 pm and out @ 6:00 pm. I was also surprised at how many homes there were out there in the valley, kinda cool.

It's like 30 min if u know how to go from up here

would that be by taking hwy 173 out of Hesperia to hwy 138 east out to the lake? I saw an intersection for that rd. but have never driven it. (also see it on the map)

here's a copy n paste link to hwy 173, I hope it works correctly. Apparently it runs into Hesperia via Arrowhead Rd., Main St. and connects to I-15 @ exit 143. Who knew? haha Looks like it could be a good alternative route when the 15 is slammed with traffic on holiday weekends?

Correct. :grumble:

California Department of Fish and Game Regulations

A California Department of Fish and Game Fishing License is required for all anglers 16 years and older. Limits on the size and number of fish each person can catch at Diamond Valley Lake are set by the California Department of Fish and Game. Click here for a complete list of regulations and bag limits. You are responsible for knowing and complying with all Fish and Game regulations.

1.NO swimming, personal watercraft, water skiing, float tubes or body contact of any kind is allowed.

2.No smoking except in designated areas.

3.Alcohol is not permitted at the marina or anywhere on the lake, including the shoreline.

4.Boats powered by humans, sail or electric motors are allowed on lakes.

5.Boats with four-stroke or direct fuel injection two-stroke combustion engines are allowed, as are two-stroke engines that comply with the California Air Resources Control Board 2001 or later model year spark ignition marine engine standard (or U.S. Environmental Protection Agency 2006 equivalent). This rule will be strictly enforced and any questions regarding your engine compliance should be resolved prior to entrance into the park.

6.Traditional carbureted two-stroke engines are not allowed.

7.Only gasoline free of the additive MTBE is allowed. Boats containing MTBE fuel will be turned away. The California Air Resources Board has reported that MTBE was removed from all gasoline refined for sale in California in Nov. 2003. Therefore, all gasoline must be purchased in California and proof of purchase will be required for boats with out-of-state registration. Refueling is prohibited except in designated areas.

8.Boats equipped with sink drains or flush toilets are barred unless the drains and toilets are sealed, inoperable, or are designed so that no waste can be discharged into the lake.

9.Boats must be at least 12 feet long, 42 inches wide, and have 12 inches of freeboard at idle speed. Multi-hulled boats must have solid and fixed decking. Engine noise must not exceed 75 decibels at a distance of 50 feet with the engine running at 80 percent of redline RPM. All engines must be unmodified, standard equipment.

10.Kayaks and canoes, at least 10 feet long, non-bailing and with seating for all passengers inside the boat, are allowed. No sit-on-top kayaks are allowed.

11.All boats must carry approved life jackets for each person aboard. Type B fire extinguishers are required on boats where a fire hazard could be expected from the motors or the fuel system.

12.Boat launching and landing is allowed only at designated docks and ramps.

13.Generally, the lakes open at sunrise and close at sunset. The hours of operation vary seasonally and are posted at the site. All boats shall be removed from the lake one hour before the posted closing time. There is no boat storage.

14.Metropolitan can close the lake to boating at any time and the number of boats allowed on the lake will be determined by lake elevation, public safety considerations and water quality concerns.

15.The speed limit for all watercraft on Diamond Valley Lake is 25 MPH. The maximum speed for boats within 200 feet of the shore, dams, other operational structures and in marina areas is 5 MPH.

16.Pets are not allowed within the recreation area or on boats.

We were there one time all grubby from eating dust, and three big body beemers all blacked out pulled up, and a dozen or so older Asian dudes in suits and ties rolled in and took up the whole back area. Their food rolled out in 5 minutes like it was already prepped and waiting. Asian mafia type shit.
