My wife is awesome! She skipped her 20 year class reunion for boat camping. We shared the driving and took the 32 Hallett to Lake Powell for the weekend. It was so worth the drive. 90 degress and not a cloud in the sky. I thought I'd share a couple shots.

That's the big sand hill, its a real steep long soft sand hill. You climb up and run down until u fall and tumble all the way down. Uh at least that's what the kids and drunks do. Cool place, if I'm in the area I usually do happy hour there.

cool pixs, the wife and I drove through Lake Powell, Page Saturday afternoon. Stopped at Glen Canyon Dam and took the tour. It was a very fun day and then we headed to Bluff, UT.

If you go. stay on the lake somewhere. The only way to do powell is to camp or if you have a good group and can swing a houseboat thats the best way. You can always stay at a hotel but thats a real half ass way to do powell. There is over a 100 miles of lake so going back to a hotel at night sucks and sleeping under the stars there is incredible.

That beach is right across from state line launch ramp at wahweap marina, sometimes you cant get to it if the water is too low. You can either launch at Wahweap or Antelope point marina. Antelope is newer and nicer but nothing wrong with Wahweap. Not sure how long the drive is from Vegas probably 7 hours since its about 2 hours from Flagstaff. If your coming from vegas make sure your boat hasnt been in Lake mead for at least a month as your going to get inspected for Zebra Mussels.

it's about 4.5-5 hours from Vegas, you go up into utah through mesquite, turn off just past St. George at Hurricane, then go towards Colorado city and Kanab, it's about 60 miles from Kanab to Wahweap, Wahweap has a hotel and ramp, as well as rv camping, antelope is on the other side of the dam and closer to the town of Page, AZ. Antelope gives you about a 5 mile head start on boating up the lake if the cut is open, and about a 10-12 mile head start if the cut is closed.

Like someone said, the lake is LONG, about 140 miles from end to end without doing any exploring in any of the coves (which is where all the coolest shit is) so if you are going to come back at ever night you want to have an awesome GPS that you can record your tracks during the day, and use them to help you navigate back at night. But really the best is camping on the water, find a nice beach in a sheltered cove and post up :thumbsup then you wake up on the water and can continue on for the day.

The wife and I left Rancho Cucamonga at 6:30pm Friday(pulling a 32 foot boat) stopped a Del Taco in Barstow( a must do) got fuel in N. Las Vegas and were in Page AZ. fueling the boat at 2:30 am. Slept in the boat til 7 am. Passed the Zebra mussel check and were in Bullfrog for lunch at 12:30. After that we went farther up and styed the night in Forgotten Canyon. We made to the 125 bouy this time but plan to go farther someday.

We usually park the rigs at Lone Rock, and put the boats in the water there.

We've been going since 82. We are thinking about renting a house boat next year.

nice pic of LaGorce arch. we hit this exact spot on Escalante last trip out.....................

the pic doesnt do justice of the scale. we hiked up uner the arch for pics and are so small you cant make out anyone in the pic.

When is the best time of the year

april-may can be nice but the water can still be quite cold.

I consider june-july-august to be the prime months, but it is also monsoon season.

september can be very pleasant, but the water has already started cooling off.

the thing to keep in mind is it is nothing like parker heat.

for me, July-August is the best time of year. I have never sat out a day becasue of weather, but had some amazing lighting shows in the evenings after a day on the water.
