I've run the dam 9 times before this tradition started. Hell...they hadn't even started the bridge yet. Ran into the clowns twice. Last two times I was there the Cottonwood beach was a shit show..the element that was walking through the RV park put many of us on alert. Use to tow a boat with an RV many years ago every year with family and friends doing the same. CLEARLY this BS needs to be STOPPED! Boaters pay big money for everything in order to run their families around creating timeless memories and this sort of bulling has been out of hand for some time. We are NOT low hanging fruit for these assholes...we are the tax payers paying there salaries in order to enjoy OUR national parks. The Rangers responsibly is to be stewards of our National Parks and provide safety to the general public...not harassing 8 boats with families enjoying the FRUITS OF OUR LABOR all the while paying their salaries and being HARASSED! From what it looks like, no one was sighted or arrested for anything while a bunch of drunk shitbags were partying on multiple beaches and driving back to were they came from.

Seems like you should fire up the cell phone video and ask for badge numbers.

Out of respect I’d send video to the department higher ups. If the same negative interactions continue then throw it on social media or send it to your local politicians.

Culture is bred from the top down.

They play Gestapo and treat citizens like idiots that are due for a beating because thats the culture from the top down. That’s why the end staff are so bold and proceed accordingly. The video will probably get the guy promoted to director of training.

Sad but true. Quite a few years ago we got harassed at the dunes by a ranger that, well let’s just say went on a racist tirade. The incident was videoed and turned over to his superiors. Fast forward a couple years and the guy is a supervisor in another part of the country but comes out to Glamis on the big holidays. The gentleman that got harassed didn’t want to push it any further.

What was the end result of all that?
There was nothing that could be done. Complaints were filed with all departments and they just got shuffled around. Damages on my end were time and embarrassment from being cuffed which essentially amounted to nothing when i discussed it with counsel.

This is exactly what happens , when we as a society fail to enforce the felony , we hyper- enforce the misdemeanor . They go after low - easy hanging fruit . There is no accountability. Audit the audit .

Just to show that there was a time when things were different. November 1984. Rented a houseboat out of Katherine. I was 25. Group of 10 of us. I don't think anyone was 30 yet. We high tailed it north and ran through the basin towing my first boat, 17' Sunray Cobra I bought new that year, 140 OMC Stringer. Not one boat on the lake. Mid-week, cloudy and a little cold. About half way across we decided to shoot skeet off the roof. I had a 12 gauge 870. We just kept cruising, and shooting. I had used a cheap pot metal hook on the tow rope to my boat, and it snapped at the bow eye. Luckily we saw it happen and backed up the houseboat and I hopped onto my boat to reset. Then we see a boat coming towards us... Rangers.

When we backed the houseboat, we wrapped the tow rope around the prop. Now we're dead in the water, one of our guys hanging off the stern with a knife and cutting the rope off the prop, me on my boat and the Rangers boarding the houseboat. The Rangers come out of the cabin, one holding my 870, "whose is this?" I yell back from my boat, "it's mine", and he says "nice gun!" At that moment I was pretty sure they were gonna be cool. Told us we were shooting toward the Cottonwood Marina and they heard us. Doh! Made us promise not to shoot anymore and gave us a warning.

Oh, and we shot that night in the dark in a cove using a flashlight to follow the pigeons

Build us a ramp or give us more water, be happy to oblige.
Then again, shut the water off to Mohave and let Mead rise and Mojave fall............:cool:
Mohave was as high as I've ever seen it last weekend. Don't know what's going on there. We can't wait for Mead to fill back up.

Not that the below is directed specifically at you Mike (I don't know you at all), but hopefully you see what I'm saying...

Having people from Mead/Vegas wouldn't be bad if the inconsiderate crap culture wouldn't come with them. Mead and Havasu appear to have a very different culture than Mohave.

When at Mohave (at least north of the basin):

- Do not pull up on our beach and blast shit music. Try not blasting music at all. Nobody wants to hear your garbage.

- Do not wedge in 3' away from us.

- If someone has their stuff on the beach and went for a ride, you do not get to drive over their stuff and claim the beach.

- Do not bring your stripper poles, fat chicks wearing stuff they shouldn't, dope, and drama. There are kids around and nobody wants to deal with that.

- Take your trash back to the dock with you.

- Do not try to turn the place into a party scene. We go to Mohave specifically because it isn't.

I'm sure there will be those who chime in and say (much like the Havasu channel conversations) "If you don't like it, go somewhere else." We did. It's called Mohave north of the basin. We do not and will not tolerate dirtbags coming in and turning it into a place we desire to leave. You go somewhere else.

In a way, I'm kind of glad the rangers give some people a hard time. Discourages visitation by undesirables. My stuff is in order and I'm happy to talk to (and support) the rangers when necessary.

Funny story... I first started to go to lake Mojave with my, now, wife's family. Most of wife's family is from Arizona and it's a good place to meet for a reunion.

I proposed to my wive on a beach just outside of cottonwood, on our new to us stoker. We were there for a week and had the stoker slipped for 5 days. After I just proposed we headed back to Katherine's to put the boat away for the evening. We'll basically, bright orange tribal graphic 28 foot duche canoe, with 10 meatheads blasting rap slips right next to us, after they just launched. They were obviously hammered.
I was pissed off when they started cat calling my soon to be wife. But I don't blame them. We leave back to the Aquarius. Next morning, somebody forgot to put the plug in. I was upset my new stoker had oil slick marks on it, but was trying not to laugh at the hungover dick dealing with it.
11 years later we still bring that up.
I don't even want to know the fines he paid. The rangers were pissed

Well, pull up to wherever we are and start that shit and our group will make it an unpleasant experience for the offending parties.

I'm not the screener, I'm just the spokesperson.
Well then can you do something about those kayaking idiots? They are worse than bicyclist half way in the lane with their stupid little blinking lights. I would slow down to no wake for those clowns but it doesn't matter if your at no wake or 55...they are still pissed.

I think the kayakers and paddle borders should have big obnoxious flags so they’re easier to see, just like the Sand dunes.🤣

Ha, been battling with the kayakers for years. Most of them are cool and realize they are out there where boats are too, but some of them are real idiots. Running up to the dam one time I had one put herself right in the middle, set her paddle across her lap, and sit there staring at me with her arms crossed as I approached. Didn't do her much good.

What's funny is a lot of them want you to slow down and come off plane as you pass them. What they don't realize is they are in for a much bigger wake that way. Alrighty. Hope you don't spill your granola as I go by...

They get north of Willow beach to themselves on Sundays and Mondays between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Then they have it completely to themselves for the rest of the year. Good enough.

I'd still rather deal with kayakers than clowns trying to make the place like Havasu though.

Last time I was coming back from the dam we had a Kayaker flip us off and talking shit...my nine year old son said,"Dad that guys was yelling at us"...I said, "Dont worry about that son...those are Democrats". 😆

this is a big claim...
seems like the person that pulled up on you guys won that match no?
Not sure what you're taking about, but we did have someone pull up and start the music blasting once.

He was gone in about 20 minutes.

Couldn't agree more...spent a lot of time up there during my married life. Last time was 2012 I think. Truly is beautiful running up Black Canyon.

I like Mohave because it’s got lots of secluded beaches, privacy, clear water and most of the boaters are not from East LA.

I’ve been watching these guys for awhile, but after yesterday’s experience I feel it’s time to discuss what they actually do.
Make no mistake about it. We were Hunted yesterday by the Lake Mead Rangers. As we were leaving Cottonwood a ranger boat approached (I sat for a few minutes waiting for the lights but they never turned on), found out later that that boat followed us all the way to Willow Beach (2 rangers onboard). Went through Willow and had an AZ state boat watching and tracking us. Past that boat was an Old, dirty diesel patrol boat (which left a cloud of exhaust fumes) who chased us to the Dam and complained that he couldn’t see registration numbers clearly enough and that we didn’t give kayaks enough room (mind you he was following with twice the wake of any of us and didn’t come off plane).

There was a total of 8 boats with families having fun on a lake that they had paid their entry fee to be on. The Park service sent 3 boats and 6 officers to harass us.

This wouldn’t be that big of a deal if they actually did their job sometimes.
I go to Lake Mead and/or Mohave at least twice a week. They do nothing about 18 ppl on a 20’ boat (I’ve watched them drive right by). They never stop and educate people who leave “skier down” flags affixed to their towers. They don’t stop people from cutting in line at the ramp, but they show up with 8 rangers after the fight ensues.
They bring pallets out to keep their boots clean when closing off an area around the “body in a barrel” and leave them there, along with the caution tape that is still flying in the weeds today.

They trolled this site to harass good family boaters while they let chaos ensue every weekend around them. That actually seemed most upset because they couldn’t pin anything to us. THEY PICKED THE WRONG GROUP of Prepared, educated, and Sober boaters. Most of us said “Don’t you want to see my type IV throwable?” When they gave up during their “Safety Check”.

I’m starting to think the park service is run by the FBI.

🖕🏻To the angry Red beard Leprechaun looking ranger who is most likely the troll on here. He was super pissed. I’d gues 34-40 yrs old.
Was he Magicly Delicious?

The hate for any different type of watersports by some folks, I just don't get, fishermen, kayaks, paddle boards, slower boats. Is it that much of an inconvenience to respect others out on the water? I love fast loud boats but also hate when some self-important jackhole has to fly by 20 feet from my otherwise peaceful enjoyment. Be it on a Paddleboard, Kayak, or fishing boat.

I think we all agree "Fawk those wakeboard boat people; they can go to hell. :)

No worries. I was just busting your chops a little. Realizing we don't know each other and you couldn't see the smirk on my face, when I reread it I decided to deleted it. We'd get along just fine, because we are boaters first.
Just like the group that ran Saturday. I doubt Mr. Power Ranger would meet a better prepared group as was there Saturday. These all good people, some with their kids, families and friends, just out for a day of boating. What the issue is is being told NOT to do the run, then being hunted and singled out. WTF, We're entitled to run the Beautiful Black Canyon as anyone.
When you add up all the fees and taxes we spend annually on goods, fuel, food, housing, whatever, we contribute more to the economy and government coffers than any renting kayaker.

Since south cove has resorted to a primitive dirt ramp I haven't been out to mead. And have been hitting mohave. I haven't had any run ins this year thus far. Head out of princess and head north. My last run in was at Katherine's and I was on my friend's old free sea sprite. We headed over to the Nevada side of telephone cove. Was there for an hour the boat started taking on water. We hauled ass back to the ramp and got pulled in by patrol on wave runners. They put us in a slip we explained the boat was actively taking on water. They didn't care...took my buddy over to the fuel dock and continued to to a field test. Wouldn't let myself or his girl get the truck and try to get the boat out of the water until we had a field test done. It was the most unbelievable thing I've been a part of. This was 930 am bone sober everyone of us and they were actively sitting there watching the boat take on water. I miss south cove and temple bar didn't have to deal with a lot of the shit.

Oh, no problems or offense taken on my end. If Mohave went shallow because of whatever is going on and I had to go to a different lake, I'd be really pissed, so I can see the position a lot of Mead people are in. If we have to share the lake for a while until things get back to normal, that's cool. I just see a ton of people who are coming down who don't seem to be familiar with the Mohave culture and are just plain stupid and inconsiderate. We really don't want our "place" going sideways like other areas have.

That is certainly not to say all Mead people are problems. One of my best friends used to go to Mead but started coming to Mohave a few years ago before Mead water levels started dropping. We hang out with him and his family on or off the water frequently. Really good people that are a pleasure to be around and I'm sure you fall into that category as well.

And yeah, the rangers seemingly setting up (if that's actually what happened) and targeting people doing the run isn't cool. Lots of other bigger problems to address that are way more important. Ability to pay seems to come into the equation occasionally though.

Also agree on the financial piece. I'm pretty sure the town of Searchlight sees quite a benefit from the amount I pay for fuel alone in my beast and truck to tow it. More than kayakers in their Subarus at least...

I'm glad I read all of this thread, as I'll be hitting up Mojave 3-4 times this fall & will be sure to have all my I's dotted an T's crossed.

Had a buddy who was a 'Park Ranger' for HB State Beach (Basically lifeguards with guns) . . . he was pissed how inept most of the other Rangers were.
He said anytime there was a 'disturbance' or a call that would require actual 'work', most of the guys would drag their feet responding to the call in hopes that the problem would resolve itself by the time they got there. It pissed him off.

Another factor (as was mentioned earlier in this thread) . . . he said that most of the other Rangers weren't from the HB area at all, and could give 2-shits about how safe, clean, or nice the beach was. They were 'stationed' there until they had enough seniority to transfer to their preferred location. So yeah . . . most all of them are bitter lazy dicks.

I heard a 'story' of one of the lifeguards there who wanted to become a State Ranger so he could 'clean-up' the beach from all the motorhomeless, vagrants, drunks, drug dealers, thiefs etc. . . . . . . when they interviewed him I guess he was pretty vocal about it and said words to the effect of, " I grew up on this beach and I'm sick and tired of seeing it go to shit" . . . . . apparently that didn't go over well and they were like, "Woh, slow down cowboy, that's not he we do things here".

So I could see that's how things would set up similarly with the Rangers at Mojave . . . .
