I was shopping for a good English Lab for almost a year. Good breeders on the west coast are fairly expensive, if that matters, but they have waiting lists that are a year or more out. You're going to want to make sure they have all of their health testing done for hips and such.

That being said, don't be afraid to look out of state, the prices drop, and the availability gets easier. Lots of good breeders in Texas, and the east coast. I flew to North Carolina to pick up my new lab, it was painless, and flights are cheap still.

As far as silver labs, I would do a lot of research, they are known for having lots of health issues, and if it matters, they are not a recognized color by the AKC. Most people if they have any kind of AKC registration for silver labs, and check the box "chocolate".

I’ve had just about every color of Lab other than charcoal. I haven’t noticed any difference in health issues. This is the second silver that I have now. She is almost 15 months old.

I might be buying a house from this very nice couple. They breed labs and have a litter due in a coupe weeks. The mom is a papered cocolate and the dad is a papered red. The pups will be up for sale for $1500. The reds go for a bit more at $2000. These people are in northern california. You can contact them through face book at wojnarlabs. Make sure you let them know Jay and Kier sent you! I dont post here just read but I have been a member for years. I just figured i would help out.
