It’s funny because the cobra does nothing for me and I like the Barron. Everyone’s got an opinion [emoji1303]

That off center steering wheel is a little odd. I assume they could just re work the dash layout to correct that?

Seriously? Not a fan at all. They need to hire a new design guy. They are nice people, Jerry was super cool and I wish them the best......but they really crapped the bed with this deck boat.

I agree.. for a brand new boat it looks all ready out dated due to design and style.. not my cup of tea.. and I'm a deck boat fan..

Why dont they just move the seat over?

Based on what I saw. It’s not as easy as moving the seat. Of course the steering wheel can be drilled and mounted in a different spot but then the symmetry of the dash would be off and my ocd couldn’t handle that.

Think a whole re tool or maybe drill it in a different spot?

I really hope they have success, but with so many other options out there in the deck boat world, they wouldnt be my first choice. I actually really liked this Cobra, but I still think we will end up going with the Howard 255 VTX

That Cobra was really, really nice. Very clean lines and great gel scheme.

With this being “RDP’s BIGGEST CONTEST EVER” I’m surprised at the lack of participation.

I posted it right before the boat show and a lot of the members hadn’t seen it when I talked to a few at the show.

That said I saw quite a few taking the pics and doing parts of the contest so it will be interesting to see what comes of it tomorrow and the next day. :)

Had a buddy send me pics of him trying to sit in it. Steering wheel is off center and hits his knee. Not sure how they would fix this.

I was really interested in them and hoped for the best. I think they stuck too much to the classic “hallet” lines and some things (like steering wheel placement) weren’t thought out. They can fix the dated lines by updating their gel schemes but they will have to re tool dash to fix the steering wheel issue.

It’s a tilt wheel on an IMCO helm. All he had to do was hit the lever at the base of the column and raise it.

Off center can be changed easily. There is beauty plates that the switches and lenco tab controls are on. They would just reshape those a little.

The up and down wasn’t the issue. If you look at the side to side. It’s off center.

reshape the beauty plates on either side of the helm. It wouldn’t be difficult. Like said above the location didn’t really bother me.

The Barron Boats thing is kind of strange, people either love it or hate. I was always told if you have nothing nice to say then don't say anything at all.

With that said here's my thoughts on the Barron boats:

.
You have a lot of opinions from afar. . .

I’m a Barron fan love the lines and look of it. But it changed once I got inside. Had the same issue as your buddy did. I even moved the wheel up to get it away from hitting my knees. Made me feel like I was driving a school buss. Not comfortable at all, not really sure how you improve the helm but it needs work. Also the back bench is not deep enough and feels like your going to slide forward.

Hope they can improve on these things as I believe they will sell, as they look completely different from
all the other decks.

Had the same problem. Had the tilt all the way in the up position and it still was hitting my knees. Made it difficult to get up as well.

So you would be ok won’t the steering wheel of your boat being off center to the rest of the symmetrical dash?

Same for us. The front seat backs are way too short also.

Anyone know the price point on it? My initial impression was it looked nice from the outside. Once I walked through it looked pretty plain. I thought to myself this is more like a $90k Deck not a 130-150k. Not sure what they wanted for it though. Just seemed basic inside.

Saw in the other thread that it's $170k with a 540.

It's actually more common than you would think! If you measure to the center of most performance boat seats, and to the center of the steering wheel usually they aren't the same and the steering wheel is offset. That all said, in the general discussion of the ergonomics for the driver in the Barron it does need some work.. I'll try to put it further up on the list of the Boat Show report I'm working on since it seems to be the hot topic.

Our Stoker isn’t. Our production wakeboard isn’t. Our old pontoon wasn’t. None of our race boats were off center.

Is your schiada? Is your hallet? Never seen a DCB with one. In fact I can’t think of any o have seen like that.

You measured them? Or just looked at it..

By the way most outboards aren't rigged on the centerline of the boat either.. (Once you know that it will really trip out your OCD! :D). The motors themselves are actually offset a little bit!

I haven't heard that, but it makes sense. I'm gonna guess they are offset slightly to the right side of center to allow the weight to offset the lifting of the prop blades on the water surface?

As a matter of fact yes. We sat in the boat and built the seating position around the steering wheel location.

Some outboard are off center but this steering wheel is more than “slightly” off.

You are saying if it were your 170k you would be ok with this if it were your boat, Or just moving the steering wheel drastically off center to everything else in the dash??

Some outboards[emoji6] But nice attempt at deflection.

I’m not sticking up for it, if that’s what you are asking. I am just saving my thoughts for the boat show report.

What I was saying is that in quite a few boats if you actually measure the steering wheel is rarely in the centerline of the seat. To what degree depends on the boat I suppose.

The steering wheel didn’t bother me in the Barron.. the throttle did though.

Most vans and RV's steering wheels are offset .

off set is ok as long as you set center of the steering wheel. That just looks like crap. Doesn't look comfortable. And off center to the seat.

Agree. The shifter/throttle is pretty awkward.

There wasn't enough entires into the contest to bother with the individual threads. I'm finishing up the newsletter right now and will have the winners announced for this on Monday! :)
