Turning to the RDP guys here that can do or knows someone who does remodels? We can handle the demo but I'm a boat guy. Not a carpenter. My wife is very specific on what she wants for a stove and oven. We need, drywall, floors, install of new cabinets with countertops and install all appliances. Possibly put a window pass thru to the dining room. Help or recommendations greatly appreciated. We would like to start this ASAP. We have already started to the point that all the upper cabinets are out. HELP!!

Good luck. So many headaches and a lot of work. Did mine mostly myself. Really think it thru and research everything. It’s expensive

Oh yeah! We know it's going to be expensive! LOL! It's a older home in Fullerton with a pretty small kitchen. We've got 40k set aside to do it. Hoping that's enough.

We did ours and I did the general contracting. Are you looking for high end finishes or just everything newer? I found that the amount of effort it took me to pull it all together was worth the savings in the long run. However I did the electrical and plumbing myself with the help of neighbors who were in the those trades...

RM Lore Drywall is located in Fullerton, they have done all the work in our house. Not the cheapest by any means but in my opinion that is an area you do not want to cheap out on because it is very noticeable.

Counter tops we bought direct from the yard and they recommended and installer who did a decent job, i guess we got lucky on that one.

Cabinets- I measured out the kitchen and took that to the home depot and put the local guy through his paces until we got something we liked. Just ordered the cabinets and found and installer to pay on the side for about 1/4 of the cost quoted from HD. He did a decent job, things I notice because I am super anal about it, but overall he did a good job for the money.

All in we are about 40K but we also made our smaller kitchen much larger, if we had kept the same footprint probably would have been about 25/30K.

Let me check with my fabricator for the counter tops. If he can't do it I have 2 other guys that do excellent work but a little more on the price.

I could do the cabinets if pre fab will work. You can go by Anaheim Kitchen and Bath and check out the showroom. They are connected to Best Cheer Stone and they have over 300 options for countertops there. My account is Nick's General Construction. They will send me the prices and I can forward them. They don't give customers the price or allow them to pay.

Are you going full custom or prefab? I have a killer counter top guy I can recommend and also a badass custom cabinet maker in Anaheim. I have a drywall guy finishing up a garage in Villa Park right now, he will be finished today and I will see how his finish work is

Well my wife has very high end taste but I try to corral her in on that! LOL! All prefab works for me. I can do alot of the work myself. Never done it before but I'm pretty handy with the tools. The only thing I see that would F with the cabinets is the oven /stove that she wants and there's no changing her mind on this one! It's a 6 burner double wide oven with sear station and griddle in the middle so Probably need to customize a couple cabinets.

We are quite a ways from needing drywall but would appreciate any recommendations for sure! Prefab is all good with me!

Cabinet over the stove with hood below or just a hood? If hood prefab should not be a problem.

To save more you can do pre fab countertops. Take a drive over to Best Cheer. Ask for a stone sales rep to show you the warehouse.

Cabinets might take 6 months to make. I’d start there, and figure out how you want them laid out.

In 2016, mine took 8 weeks to get the cabinets. Then another 6 weeks to complete. Always waiting for something, or somebody.

Lowe’s has a design center. They can help you plan your kitchen, and find the right cabinets, and options. They have most of the top cabinet manufacturers, and are competitively priced.

I recommend the “plastic” cabinet for the kitchen sink ( ask about it). I’ve already had a garbage disposal leak, and cleanup under the sink was easy. No damaged wood.

We did a full remodel in our kitchen / den during the first round of plandemic, we blew out the center wall put a 26' beam in for an open concept kitchen. The kitchen is now facing the backyard with a 5'x10' island originally it was facing the front of our house. I did everything my self except the counters and back splash. It was a timely project, I heard it from my wife just about everyday... how this project should have been done already.

My advise to you is to plan and have a schedule. Your 40k will go fast if you hire some one or sub out most of the work. No one wants to work for beer anymore. You need to have money on hand for any incidentals you come across.

This is all prefab. We removed a wall and opened up a wall to the living room.

@Nordic John
We tried to remodel our master bathroom and we pulled the plug. Prices were outrageous and getting contractors to come out was rough as well. We're going to wait

By the time it’s all said and done kitchens are 50k or more in my experience. It can be less but just imagine re doing a boat top to bottom.

You’re not going to put a new interior on top of a rotted floor, cracked stringer etc.

New motor and you’re not gonna do new gauges and a new wheel?

$1,500 here and there adds up fast

That opening in the wall is exactly what my wife is looking for. Ours would go to the dining room instead of the living room.

Se do commercial cabinets usually but did my own kitchen a few years back. We are in Fullerton and did lot's of resi during Covid but are too busy with commercial right now.

Our kitchen before. We bought in 2015.

Our kitchen after. At the end of the ceiling T&G we put in a 14x14 Oak Beam (not shown here).
The doors above the fridge freezer wall are on motorized flip up hinges with RF switches hidden below island top edge.
Two other things I really like are the toekick lights, they dim and look nice at night and we put in two trash pull-outs, huge win. One is by sink and one is under the "mail counter" that looks like all drawers. The extra trash stops a LOT of traffic going through the main cooking/kitchen path.
The exposed hinges on Oak doors are for appearance only. Freezer on left, fridge in middle and pantry on right behind those oak doors.
We did the work about 2018.

I did most of the work myself and had $60k into it in 2016. If “she” wants walls torn out, it’s going to need to flow into another room.
I’m going to guess $85k, and they probably won’t be happy with the contractor. Anything above quality appliances, you can add to the bill.

I’m starting two bathroom remodels this winter. I’m going to buy the cabinets, and do one at a time. I’ll Hire quality people to do the stuff I can’t do. Mostly all the tile work. I’ll pay that guy three times what he makes at his day job, and he’ll call in for 2-3 days sick. It’s the only way to get stuff done.

We were quoted $60K for our kitchen and I laughed and hung up the phone. "F" that I said, I'll do this shit myself! LMAO! Well, it's taken a lot longer than I had planned, but when it's all said and done, it should turn out halfway decent.

3/4" plywood cabinets with 3/4" maple face frames custom built for our kitchen. Slowly but surely, I'll finish this race. 😎
