Anyone remember the Sand Center? It was a little shop across the street from the entrance that sold all kinds of parts.

Probably the same guy! Back in the day (pre cell phone days) you could order your pizza over the CB and he would deliver your pizza to you on the beach.
Did he make you sign a legal contract before he’d hook to you?

Problem - the new truck is a Dually, 4x4 but stock tires. Anyone ever take a 4wd dually to pismo? Does airing down even help when you have rock hard narrow load range E tires?
My uncle has done it with his dodge dually and stock tires towing in a 5vr he will drop them to about 10 psi and will go wherever he wants to.Yes the tires bulge out too.I have E rated on my 2500hd as well there only 265/75/16 sized and i air down to 10 as well just gotta drive slow make turns wider and dont hit the throttle super hard.

I think it depends on how the duals are set-up. If they aren't spaced very far apart you can't air them down very much. You don't want the tires touching. Just them running together will add excess heat into the sidewall and can blow out. Add in sand getting between them (cause if that shit can get in your butt crack, it'll get in between the tires) and you're asking for a blow out.

E rated tires themselves do fine in the sand. I have E rated tires on my half ton and they do just fine. Aired down to about 12 they're good.

Pismo is a fun town and there’s a lot more to do then the dunes up there. In fact in all the years we have been going up there I have only Been in the dunes a handful of time.

Some of the best most scenic roads to just go for a drive.

Pismo will always be one of the top places for me. Been going there since I was a kid.
The problem is it's just not epic anymore. The dunes are gone, it's just a big rolling sand parking lot. No late-night runs to Devil's Slide, with one trip that could generate stories for months. Sitting in a lawn chair in front of your truck watching the parade go by, guys pairing off on the beach and doing short little drags. Going to comp Hill at night sitting there watching the drags up the hill. Maidenform flat. Parking at the river crossing in watching the newbies try to come in at high tide. I could wax poetic for hours on Pismo.
Since it turned into the Riviera for the Salinas crowd, it's just not the same.
I know, you can't go home.
My group is always talking about a Pismo trip, it's been about 10 years for me. But it would have to be a Wednesday to Saturday kind of thing.

We have been going for over 25 years and spent last week there for Presidents Day holiday. Usually go 3 times a year, Pres Day, week before Thanksgiving and New Years (best weather ever). Here's some pics of our last trip....

It's been awhile LOL.. I can't get these pics to post full size image without posting multiple times
Hi T! Nice to see you're still lurking here now and then:cool::)
.
So you still remember it before they closed the large area in the Southeast part of the dunes?
Pismo dunes were easy to ride compared to Glamis, very predictable.

Hey Zig :) Yea, I check in every once in awhile. I remember it when you could get back to Devils Slide. My aunt had a house right off the beach there as you go in the 2nd entrance up until a year ago. They bought it in 74 I think. We were always back and forth from Pismo to Glamis because we lived in Yuma. I've always been a dune rat :D.
