That's about the only thing I miss about living in AG. Used to go out on the beach at least once a week. Good fun and great entertainment.

Pismo is one of our favorite places. Cool vid. Making memories is what it's all about.

You should organize an RDP event.
Pismo is a cool place if your primary goal isn't just riding. It's fairly small. I can ride the perimeter on a quad in about 20 minutes, lol.

It's a great place to head in July or August to escape the heat. Do a little riding, fishing, family fun stuff. It's typically low to mid 70s.

Bring WD40, shit rusts overnight there!
It's definitely a place that shows you where your machine needs attention, lacks any paint or has any raw bare metal anywhere.

Yep, I would be in. RD should put a trip together, there's plenty of us out west that would meet up there.

Pismo is really cool. We go there a couple times a year. There is a lot to do in the general area (SLO). GiGi likes staying at the Madonna Inn. It is pretty chatski but you have to make everyone happy. As stated by others, you cover Pismo pretty quick. Camping on the beach is a must do. I rode a standup ski there one year just to do it. The water was very cold.

Love it up there and one of my best buds lives in Arroyo Grande so we always have a place to stay. Gets harder to leave every time.
Oldschoolbuggies.com puts on a reunion run...August 18th. I’m planning to roll up

Haven't been there in way too long. Grew up going there about every weekend riding quads when I was a kid. Such a great place. Great memories.

What's AG?

I loved camping in Pismo.
The dunes were decent but pretty small. Being on the beach more than made up for it.

I didn't like doing everything possible to prevent rust, while watching shit rust anyway almost immediately.

And the crowds could be awful, just like anywhere else (glamis, ocotillo, havasu) on a busy weekend I suppose.

Great memories for sure.

I’m guessing Arroyo Grande. City inland from Pismo

This is correct. I lived in Grover Beach and Arroyo Grande for about a year and a half before moving to Nacimiento. I hated how packed the five cities is (Pismo, Arroyo Grande, Grover Beach, Oceano, and Shell Beach), but I did love being so close to the dunes and Avila Beach.

You hated how packed that area was??? I live in the San Gabriel Valley. I’ll take those 5 cities any day of the week. Like I said...every time I go up there it’s harder to leave.

I was born and raised in Burbank, went to PCC, and worked in Baldwin Park my entire life til almost 6 years ago. I'm VERY familiar with how crowded it is down there. The 5 cities was too similar in that regard for me.

I commute from West Covina to San Fernando for work. I’m not comparing me to you but I’d take life in that area in a heart beat over down here if I could get my wife to agree. I also have a place in Parker and that’d be hard to give up.

Been in Arroyo Grande since 87, moved here from Malibu. The 5 Cities has changed a lot since 87 but its still nice. As for the Pismo Dunes, its shrinking. Death by a thousand fences. The enviro`s have been trying to put a stop to off road use for years. I suspect it will be over in the next five years. If anyone come out this way post it! Ill buy ya a beer!

Great video, brings back memories. Growing up we used to go up there several times a year to ride our ATC's. Then once I got my license I spent many weekends throughout highschool going up there to ride, go wheeling in our trucks and camping on the beach. I used to love going up there but it sure has changed. I went up there a few years ago and was amazed at how much was closed also amazed at the people who camp out there- lots of Raider Nation everywhere.

Thanks! You have to go during the week in order to avoid the Raider trash now.

I used to do pismo all the time, but got out of offroading for a while. I went back there about 3 years ago, and was amazing how rough the crowd was on the weekends. I'd love to go back to Pismo and camp again but not sure i'd want to deal with Raider Nation either!

Would love to take my kids up there and maybe tent camp or sleep in my enclosed trailer for the weekend. I think they would have an absolute blast playing in the sand all day.

Problem - the new truck is a Dually, 4x4 but stock tires. Anyone ever take a 4wd dually to pismo? Does airing down even help when you have rock hard narrow load range E tires?

I believe I had stock good years on mine?
Airing down was the ONLY way! :D
Was towing a 26' toy hauler too.
Airing down the trailer tires helped as well.

Camp at the campground off beach no problem. Just watch the tide daily as you enter google creek crossing Pismo to see what to avoid. Used to hit it yearly when bringing back the Toyhauler from NACI for winter.

Nice pic. Which Raptor is yours? (What lights behind the grill - Baja Designs? And what about the lights in the bumper openings?)

My one is the far R1. Those are rigid brackets from like 2012. Did the trick though. Perfect fit and delete plate for light bar in middle. I run ambers on the far outsides that I leave on all of the time. The near truck is my friend Jason’s - I will get all the specific’s on his grill and bracket setup.

Here is another pretty cool day I had out there in the JKU.

I can't remember the last time I was there. I do know all we had was act 90's. It was fun when you had to work to make it up a dune. Back then we used to go all the was down the beach till the rocks went into the ocean.. That last big dune sort of a double decker was called Devils Slide. As a kid that was the biggest dune I had ever seen. Good memories for sure.

Definitely don't worry about the creek this year unless it's this weekend. We're supposed to get a descent sized storm Thursday through Friday which MIGHT swell the creek. There ain't shit getting to the ocean now from Lopez and that's where that creek runs from.

Did I ever tell you about the time I hydrolocked the 460 in my old dually crossing the creek?
Good times.:rolleyes::D

Sounds like good times!!

I remember my senior year in high school (1992) My buddies and I decided to spend spring break at Pismo. That year their had been crazy amounts of rain and river was the biggest and deepest I had ever seen. I remember flash flood warnings, I remember watching the local news and seeing the Ventura RV park and RV's being swept out to sea, It was a bad year- but what a better time to go to Pismo?!

We were bound and determined to cross the river and spend the week in the dunes. Back then I had a lifted Chevy Truck that was a beast- blown small block, lockers front and rear, etc... We arrived late Sunday night and the creek was flowing. One of the guys we were with had a stock height Chevy truck and he was pulling a flat bed with a sand rail. He made a run at crossing the river but when he crossed it, he went for it. Didnt time it right and the water killed the motor. He is stuck in the middle of the river (literally dead in the water). Water is flowing through his cab his sand rail looked like it was floating across the water because you couldn't see the flat bed that it was attached to. I ended up towing him out ( he was freaking out like Fast Times and Ridgemont High- my dad is gonna $hi% and then he is gonna kill me) and getting to Pole 4 where we always used to camp. We ended up getting his truck running and everything was good.

I remember waking up the next morning and the beach and river crossings were like I had never seen before. Long story short the river had become so big and deep that it couldn't be crossed. We were all stoked because we were already on the beach camping. We had plenty of food, beer, wood and gas so we were fine. We had the entire beach and dunes to ourselves, there was no rangers to worry about so we basically did whatever we wanted for the week of spring break.

One of those trips that you will always remember!!

As I am typing this and reminiscing- its crazy to think that when I was 17/18 years old and still in high school. My parents would allow me to drive ~150 miles north to go ride, wheeling, drinking, having fun and they fully trusted me. I never got into trouble and always knew what I was doing. You dont really see or hear of the same behaviors with kids today that we all grew up doing.

My sons mother lived in Santa Maria so usually every time I picked him up we camped and rode the dunes. One trip I brought up the JS too, surfed for a few hours with it as well. Memorable trip for me cause even my parents swung by there while on their own camping trip.

Golf Cart.jpg Recon On Beach.jpg Sunset.jpg View from RV.jpg Didn't realize there were so many Pismo people in here! We have been going for over 25 years and spent last week there for Presidents Day holiday. Usually go 3 times a year, Pres Day, week before Thanksgiving and New Years (best weather ever). Here's some pics of our last trip....

It's been awhile LOL.. I can't get these pics to post full size image without posting multiple times

Old Juan's is awesome. Pretty legit Mexican food. Perfect for all the Central valley crowd that comes over every weekend.

I don’t remember that but the guy that pulled my ford had a big 6x6 3 axle military something or other. Had a snorkel intake, and the truck was tall as shit. The creek would have to be 12+ foot deep with incoming swell to stop him. He wouldn’t be able to breath before the truck wouldn’t, lol.

Probably the same guy! Back in the day (pre cell phone days) you could order your pizza over the CB and he would deliver your pizza to you on the beach.
