What's your thoughts?

I've spent my life on bikes, still have my first Indian that we got when I was 2 1/2. But, having had & seen so many injuries, kind of always thought I would steer my kidos away from it. Then my first little guy comes around & he's a total natural on 2 wheels. So today @ 3 1/2, I broke down:

Already have it governed way down & orderring one of those remote kill switches tonight - goes on before he rides.

Started my boys at 4 years old on PW 50's. My oldest is 11 and rides a XR 70. He is pretty mellow. My 9 year old rides a KLX 110. He is very aggressive rider and is as tall as his older brother. I did not start my first daughter until she was 6 and she is riding an XR 50. She is actually quite aggressive, but she rides her bmx bike with my 9 year old.

One thing on the XR 50 is I got the fattest tires I could find. Those stock tires are plows in the soft stuff and the fat tires help them stay on top.

I started my 5 year old July 4th this year at the moto track. I had training wheels in the truck but didn't need them. We made a few laps in the parking lot before going to the pee wee track. We'll be there this friday morning again for his 2nd ride.

Started my son at 3. I governed him way down and tied a rope to him. My biggest fear was throttle control or letting off the gas when needed. He learned pretty quick. I lost a few pounds chasing him around

Our little guy took the first step, just had him go in our backyard. I think he'll do much better with some more room. You can tell I had the thing governed so far down it will barely go up the little grass mound in our backyard. The remote kill switch is awesome, there was 2 or 3 times he started heading the bushes, we had the bike killed before he even hit anything.

The 2 strokers will keep gaining speed if they hold the throttle down. Kill switch was a good idea

I started my daughter around 3 or 4 on a Honda 4 trax 70 and then for her 4th birthday she wanted a Honda 50 and started doing the track thing. She would ride until it ran out of gas or we stopped her to drink and eat. She would race with her friends and then after the race go run on the other track till next moto they never seemed to get tired. When we went to the desert they would ride from sunup to sundown and they tried many times to ride all night. The secret is to push safety get them all the equipment and never let them run without the gear that way falls are just a small event. These are some photos of her racing at the track in Phoenix.

To me there is no better sport than motocross, I started when I was 12, I'm 50 now and still racing (50 Expert with ArizonaOldtimers Mx)!
I'm so lucky my parents gave me the choice of Little League or motocross, the later has led to so many races in so many states meeting so, so many great people.
While the mini life can be hectic for the parents, the joy of seing the hugest smile on a kids face when he /she is getting that trophy is still very cool to see !!
To all those parents who are worried about little johnny or little susie getting hurt, they can do that skateboarding, gymnastics, or footbal, so lettem ride !!!!

My boy started at five with a CRF50, he is on a Kawi 110 now and the next step will be a CRF150. He loves it and identifies with it. Watches the races with me, posters in his room. Loves anything that has todo with Windham or Pastrana. True about the safety eq. He is always geared up when riding, I never let him slip in the safety dept.;)

Put my son on a Pw50 at age 4 on the pee wee track and he is now 14 on a CRF 250 riding the main at Milestone (and hopefully Perris next week) with me and he is hitting all the jumps. Sometimes it's hard to watch and yes he has had some broken bones that have healed just fine but most of his friends have had just as bad of an injury playing Football or Baseball and quite a few of them have had repetitive injuries. My Daughter is 17 and rides a YZ450 quad. IMO, motocross riding, riding in the desert and boating is some of the best quality time a family can spend together.

Sharp Shooter, we would like to hit the track with you sometime as it seems you ride often. We usally ride the tracks 3 to 4 times per week (fastpass).

I have ridden all my life and raced at the professional level for years. I'm on the fence about my boy. He just turned 4 and could care less about them.....which is fine with me. I don't know....... I would love him to go trail ride with me, but in no way race, and if he starts to enjoy trail riding he is going to want to race. Racing is a meat grinder...

First Day in the Dirt today, he's taking to it like a fish in water. Of course a couple falls :D, but by the end of the day he was cruising pretty good. This is maybe his 5th time on the bike, 3 yrs, 7 months.
