The RR unions are brilliant. They know 8 weeks before the midterms is the perfect time to see if Biden will support them or not.

It's also harvest season. What happens if the grain/potatoes/onions/ et cetera has no way to get to storage facilities? Soy? Corn? How does this potentially affect ethanol production?

Sounds like a deal was made.
Hopefully work/life balance issues were resolved.

It’s 2022… we’re in the days of self driving cars… yet the trains still need people to run them? I’m guessing in the near future, railroad companies will be will be getting with the times and significantly reducing # of humans needed for operations.

Sounds like your on call status should be paid more like a stand by not on call. By that im saying if your phone rings and you HAVE to take the call that doesnt really sound like on call to me i read that as stand by and you should be getting paid. Our contract pays half time for stand by pay. If its an option to take the call that sounds like on call which no pay should be rendered sounds fair to me.

For the pay increase i think thats kind of chicken shit that they are going to require the hands to pay more for their benefits if they are staying the same. Now if they are asking for more money for better paid benefits health insurance coverage or better retirement matches or pay outs... Ok theres something to be considered. I hope these men get what they want.

From what i gather it seems a lot of union contracts have been extended or had minor changes benefiting the company for the last twn years and as of late seems arbiters are taking this into consideration and requiring the companies to bend more for the hands.
I don't agree on the health care part. Everybody in america (except congress) is paying more for the same or worse healthcare benefits. Our company healthcare benefits are total crap and SOOO much more out of pocket and we pay 0-7% more every year. They just rotate, one year price stays same but benefits drop, next year benefits stay the same but price goes up. Thanks Obama, you're a real champ!

You are correct its been in the works for years but contracts and some states don’t allow that currently if im not mistaken this is possibly the last contract of the crew consist agreement that mandates 2 man crews.

11,000 bonus now
24% raise for all
Against its not about the money thats a railroad work around! They always throw money at them. They make billions in profit quarterly!

And they pay new hires 10-20k in incentive pay for hiring on money is nothing to them.

Its about time off, average American gets 9.6 days off per month. As of Feb 1 2022 the railroaders get 2. It was 7 before that. They are on call 24/7 365... The railroad thinks that while on call that is time off. If you cant have a cocktail it ant your time. When called they have 15mins to respond and to be at work ready to go 1.5 hours from the first ring. Also they dont know when, where or how long they will be gone. Between 8hrs to 3 days. Iv been doing it for 25 years. they tried to fire me once for going home sick. I wasn't paid for the day. 4 times in 25 years. Never been in trouble with the company. They rule with an iron fist..
While your story sounds like a bunch of bs you shouldn’t have to deal with.

I’m gonna say this. I loath unions and the mentality that goes along with unions. If your job is that bad, and they rule with an iron fist then maybe you should move onto a different career. Everyone’s hiring right now.

Pilots I can understand… you have hundreds of people on board a mile up in the air. Definitely have 2 guys to make sure if something went sideways… you have a backup plan.

Railroad… things are literally on rails.

You are right, there have never been train derailments.

Fire all the conductors!

Trains have more risk than a plane if you think about what is transported by rail.

At a couple of points on my trip into DTLA on the Metrolink the train hits 80 mph! Kinda frightening. I always find a seat with my back toward the front of the train. That way, if we come to an abrupt stop I won't be thrown across the seats.

Glad to hear the strike was avoided.

And as mentioned, never knew how tough of a gig that job is. Best of luck to you guys.

If you Like your Doctor, You can keep your Doctor!!
Haha, first year obama care goes into affect 15 of my employees HAD to change their doctor. They're all hispanic. I told them all, some or most of you literally voted for this, here you go, enjoy. And 5 years later Newsomes wage increase goes into affect, they're all asking for more money because they can't afford a $7 cheeseburger, MINIMUM WAGE does NOT solve poverty!

I’d love to have you for a ride along if it was legal. We have a ton of computers etc. but remember the computer is only as good as the writer.
In the past three weeks I’ve been back to work from some medical time, I’ve had two trains go in emergency, that i had to secure by hand brakes before the engineer could recover the air, then they set the brakes and i release all the hand brakes. Up down up down one train was 37 brakes, unsure how could’ve been done with one person.

At Yucca Az right now there’s a train all over the desert, train was on those rails, well and then it wasn’t. 🤦🏼
