I have a lot to chip up.....LOTS.....I looked at a rental at SunBelt today which was only a couple hundred less than this purchase for a week long rental. The SunBelt one was more robust and heavy commercial grade but....

I think this will get it done as long as I don't just manhandle things. If it does work then I will be set going forward at almost a push price wise compared to the rental.

I looked at some very heavy duty ones but did not want to spend 4K+ for one......

Anyhow....wish me luck as I pick it up tomorrow

Most of the wood thru it will be cedar which is soft. Since it wont be hardwoods I think its going to do the job for me. Any big pieces would be cut up with the chain saw

had a similar one, I thought I was going to cut and chip 30 cypress trees about 30' tall, I could cut down a couple a day , but it took a week to chip, I got throught 5 trees and quit.

if your chipping brush it will be fine, anything more than 2" your wasting your time.

Also what I am running thru is 100% dried out so that helps vs putting wet stuff in there

That's not a wood chipper, it's a shrub chipper. Anything bigger than 1" is gonna stall the engine and make parts go flying.

Good luck.

😁
Haha.

Thanks everybody

Good night now. ;)

Anything big enough for burning and cedar isnt the best for burning has been cut already. So....like I said this should do the job

I wish you luck.

I have about 50 trees I trim every year. I don't mind the trimming but I hated moving the trimmings to one area and paying about $800 a year for someone to come chip so I bought a chipper 4 or 5 years ago.

Trimming and making a pile took a full weekend. Two 10 hour days. Trimming and chipping took three weekends. Chipping took 2-3 times longer than trimming and both the noise and vibration sucks.

I will never chip again but I wish you luck.

I should do what your doing, but I've given up the idea of buying a chipper and have resorted to hauling truckloads of cuttings to the local landfill. A hefty load stacked in a pickup truck costs me $90-100 to dump. I try to make a trip or two a month.

I could fill 2 20 ton trucks with stuff from the lower property.

I took a load in the other day...about 3/4 of a ton and it was 75$.

I am just gonna get busy and do the best I can when time allows. Its going to take a while. Lol. Hope this thing can stand up to it all before breaking.

I work with a guy that has a big chipper 500 hp if I remember right feed it with an excavator with a grapple 2 foot wide is about the biggest it will take but 1 foot and smaller it takes it as fast as you can swing the slash around

First weekend of ownership after i bought the neighbors house i rented a real chipper. I made 3 trips to a neighbors with full dump truck of chips and it was waaaay slower of a process than I expected even with a real autofeed chipper. I hate chipping, but still do it way more than i care to admit just maintaining the 5 remaining pepper trees and the neighbors fence line of oleanders.

That looks like the chipper from SunBelt I was going to rent.

I really do need something a lot more robust but will have to make do with what I can afford right now. I have hundreds of trees :(

I will admit I am tempted to cancel the one I bought and just go get the damn SunBelt rental

I worked on Morbark tree grinders with 1200 H.P. Cat V12 engines.

Biggest complaint from new purchases for new owners that had never had one was how slow they were…….

I fully admire and support buying the tool. But from what you’re describing I’d cancel and go rent what you need.

Or try to find a legit used one on marketplace. That unit is not going to chip 20 trees let alone 100s.

I dont need to chip 200 trees but I have somewhere in that range on the property. This is old cuttings that need to go

Funny you wrote that though. Woke up this morning and decided I am going to rent the SunBelt one and cancelled that order. I plan on working for a straight week just chipping. Fuck it. Lol
