Big issue in my "neighborhood" , We live in a semi rural hilly /canyon area 3 to 10 acre parcels , Lack of depredation and game management has led to the increase of Lions who not only prey on the deer population but they snack on the "gentleman rancher types" baby goats and fluffy dogs, there are a dozen sightings all around over the last few months , I even picked up one on my shop surveillance can a while back , the pic is from a neighbor about a 1/2 mile away ... The wife is now strapped when she walks the dog
Ojaiwhere was that video shot at? A cat like that could do some damage...
A gray wolf was spotted up there the other day as well, first known gray wolf in California in 99 years, it wandered from Oregon and it's tracking collar batteries died in SLO County a couple months ago. Fish and Game wants to tranquilize it and put a new collar on it.Ojai
Yep, not a good situation. Couple of months ago, we were sitting and eating dinner. A large cat went across our field about 500’ away. He was big too. We have a bobcat that tries to intimidate the dogs and deer. He’s big but nothing like the mountain lion.
Oh for sure they're in your area, especially with your close proximity to the Hualapai's. We're on the Hackberry end of the Peacocks and the X Bar 1 Ranch foreman shot a mountain lion on our property after he dined on a calf or two.
This one was captured a few years ago on a neighbors Game Cam. While out exploring we've found the remains of a fairly fresh deer kill, but never seen one.
Wife feels more secure in our new SxS with doors then she did with our original Ranger while out exploring.

I'm walking every day now. Should be at 4 miles soon. My friend talked me into buying some pepper spray cause of all the animals up in the hills.
Hope I never have to find out if it works!
Be very aware of wind direction if you find the need to use it. I’m not a fan of a spray for defense. Would be better off with a knife than spray. Of course there’s an even better alternative to spray or knife...

From personal experience, those snake loads will kill small rattlers, but you'd best have a few in the cylinder cuz they really tend to piss off the big boys and one has never been enough.10-4.
I was thinking maybe a small 22 with snake loads?
10-4.

West of Denver there is an offramp off I70 that dirt bags from the city would go to dump dogs. It was/is terrible. A few mountain towns held wild dog hunts back in the 90s.
From a tactical standpoint, it is often recommended to carry in a chest holster for predators. If attacked, the natural human reaction is to hold your hands by your chest or head for self defense. At that point it is both physically and mentally difficult to release and reach for your belt. One man's opinion.Big issue in my "neighborhood" , We live in a semi rural hilly /canyon area 3 to 10 acre parcels , Lack of depredation and game management has led to the increase of Lions who not only prey on the deer population but they snack on the "gentleman rancher types" baby goats and fluffy dogs, there are a dozen sightings all around over the last few months , I even picked up one on my shop surveillance can a while back , the pic is from a neighbor about a 1/2 mile away ... Well, yeah.My 338mag destroyed him.
Cause my 9mm isn't gonna fit in my dolphin shorts. Duh!If you are gonna carry a gun, then why carry a small one?
I have .357 mag with snake loads and you would be surprised how big the spray pattern is even being up close.10-4.

.22 is worse.
Next time set up a target and you'll see what i mean
Look at the size of the pellets in the .22. I've seen bigger grains of kosher salt lolWorse? Not sure what you are saying here?

Shoot those out of a short barreled handgun and the spray pattern goes wide.
They need to be the size of the 357 pellets and the 357 pellets need to be bigger
Like shooting 00 12 gauge where there's only 9 or 10 pellets

When the wild dog packs start becoming a problem the county would send local trackers out to eliminate them.I’m sorry what?
where was that video shot at? A cat like that could do some damage... Mine pic was in the west hill of Atascadero only about a mile off 101
Good point she carries in her sweatshirt pocket , my have to get her to rethink thatFrom a tactical standpoint, it is often recommended to carry in a chest holster for predators. My sentiments exactly!!If you are gonna carry a gun, then why carry a small one?
