One thing to consider is the value of the program in terms of employer recognition. Some industries really favor certificates from well-known institutions, and others are more focused on experience.
I got a 19 yr old in college full time but looking for a part time gig as a shop hand or laborer, North Phoenix, Deer Valley area specifically if anyone knows a fab shop or something he likes to work with his hands but also is a hell of a hand on a PC and currently pursuing a graphic designer career, also into music production and film.
I’m looking to hire a new engineer early next year. We are a small structural engineering firm located in north Phoenix, specializing in residential and light commercial structural design. We work on projects all over the state as well as some in California.
Ideally we are looking for someone with a couple years of relevant experience, but will consider a new college grad if they are motivated to learn and grow. The candidate must have a BS in Civil Engineering and be a licensed EIT (or at least have passed the FE exam). Typical job duties include performing wind, earthquake, and gravity load calculations for wood, steel, concrete, and masonry structures. We also draft our own plan sets and details. The candidate must be able to communicate with architects, contractors, and other engineers as needed.
Pay is based on experience. We offer full benefits including health, dental, vision, and company matching IRA.
For a little background, my company is Sound Structural Solutions. The company has been around since 2005 up in Washington, and a buddy and I started our own Phoenix based office under the company name in 2022. We have since grown our client base and maxed out our work load that we can currently handle. Our Phoenix office small but growing quickly, and the candidate we are looking for must be willing to grow with us. We offer more freedom and a more intimate environment than a large corporate engineering firm.
