It is so hard to get a job in Southern California (specifically LA) right now. Goodness gracious. I am getting denied pretty much everywhere for even the most basic stuff. Including things mentioned here recently. I am 40 and have a pretty solid background in tech and marketing, very adept with computers and business, growth, customer service, sales etc in general and can't get any traction anywhere.

If anyone has leads on jobs in the Los Angeles area feel free to chime in or reach out! Sure wish that lineman position was still open @CLdrinker - they didn't bite on the support roles (I was surprised). I even tried going for their newer marketing positions they put up, but no dice.

Keep fighting, you're not alone. It'll take a while to get something that fits. I'm assuming you're on LinkedIn? What was your last role?

You can fill out a notification request for when lineman or lineman apprentice tests come up. City of Los Angeles personnel Dept.
Also, for Steam Plant Assistant I highly suggest. Even the automated Gas turbine plants are operated by steam plant personnel.

-Worked as a Technical Lead, and Program Manager for the past 6 years.
-FDA Class III implantable devices and catheter delivery systems.

- I would love to take a break from Medical Device and work in a different industry (i.e. automotive/marine)
- The RDP threads I've posted on the Hallett and Camaro, highlight my passions, my methodical approach to problems/projects, it would be cool to apply those experiences to a career.
- Adept ability to apply engineering principals to find solutions, really open to any industry.

My employer is looking for an inhouse mechanic. Needs to be able to repair heavy equipment. We run Deere 210 skip loaders, 613 and 623 Cat scrapers, 140 Cat blades, various mini excavators, loaders, water trucks, Bobcats, ect... You have to have a strong mental mindset. We get a lot of guys that say they can handle it and they all loose their minds in about 4 months... There is a lot of work as our equipment parties harder than rental equipment. We are in Phoenix.

Well, my company laid of 40% of the staff, closed the doors yesterday and moved our manufacturing back to Chicago. So once again out in the market looking for a job. 25+ years aerospace supply chain experience, most recently managed 5 sites, 2 of them in China. Looking in LA, Orange County, San Diego County, hell might even look to Arizona and get the retirement plans in place early for the right opportunity.

They both didn’t seem like a good fit for us.

Seems like nobody is looking for work with good experience for machine shop .

FYI; In Las Vegas warehouse worker often start at $12-13 per hour, and there are thousands of jobs as we have millions of square feet of distribution centers. Our employees get quarterly and year end bonuses.

I've got a 17-year-old kid. He's a straight A student and soon to be Eagle Scout. He tried to get a part time job over summer. He applied at In-N-out as well as ton of other places and no luck. I got him a limited gig pushing a lawn mower because I had a connection. We are in SoCal. All you people saying go work at In-N-Out well it's not that easy.

Absolutely. I tell my kids to work there once they get to age. Good high school job with good pay and a possible career.
Yep, it was my high school and through University gig. Not only is the pay great, but it teaches you HOW to work, and that at a good job, there is always 100 people that would like to have yours, so bring your best at all times.

I have been working for the last 15 years in tech, and sales before that, and I still get more questions about my time at In N Out on job interviews, it really is interesting to the outside world and honestly is an amazing experience to learn what a good company deserves from you every day, and in likewise, what you as an employee deserve from a good company.

Anyone that is looking to get their kids jobs at In N Out, first, make sure they are willing to commit, its a waste of time otherwise. Second, you will most likely need an "in", someone who already works there to get your application to the top of the pile. I tried forever to get in on my own, never even got called for interviews. Eventually I just filled out the form with about 8 people's names I knew that worked there and circled one of my best friends, and it was his word that got me the interview and hired. They weren't even hiring.

If you don't have a friend that works, there, make friends as a customer, go in every week and dine in for a lunch, and after a bit ask for an application when its slow like mid afternoon.

If he's good at math, suggest he strongly consider Engineering in college. My son graduated 2 years ago and had 20+ job offers. ( internships during the summer were the key to the offers). He skied, played hockey, and was a Frat kid the rest of the time. He was a Solid B student in College. Nothing amazing. But he was an engineering student who was well rounded, and not just an egg head.

He worked one project, got recruited by another firm and is now making more money than me. His is a vagabond lifestyle currently with projects in Canada, Texas and now in Wyoming. He has a plan to work this style 3-4 more years, and then settle in with a Utility ( making alot less money but having alot more stability for home/family life, if that develops).

His monthly nut (less food) is $900.00. He paid for his diesel truck in 2 years and he's saving/investing a ton. He says he's still getting recruited monthly, but he wants to finish this project before moving on.

There is still good jobs out there. Good luck to your son!

This sucks. I do wonder what was the employee count prior to Covid and what it is now. How many redundant employees are there. Would be interesting.

This isn’t very helpful. The commercial HVAC/refrigeration field has lots of opportunities. OT and double time is great….But, I’ll be honest. Robert left on Tuesday morning at 6am and came home Wednesday at 4am and is dead to the world. I’m not sure what young kid wants to sign up for that life? It’s brutal…
