Reagan was not popular with the Republican party for many of the same reason Trump is not. He had the biggest tax cuts at the time. He helped guide the economy which improved. He also added greatly to the deficit.

Hate Trump or not, kind'a irrelevant. What is relevant is the fact that Jerry Brown has run Ca into the ground - Financially and with his policies. I won't go into AB109, PROP36, PROP47 and PROP57 because I've beat them to death on other threads and I'm sure most of you guys have read it but besides those bills he championed to get passed, directly endangering California citizens safety, he can't balance a budget and has mismanaged funds his whole term. Now to cover that, he's taxed gas and double car registration that mind you, is exactly the thing that got Grey Davis thrown out of office and Schwartzenneger elected. And now this stupid sanctuary state thing? I mean, come on man. I get the compassion and desire to help people in need and to help people come to America, I'm totally on board for that. But we need to do it legally and follow a process and at the very minimum NOT protect criminals. He directly ordered LE to not cooperate with ISE. Meaning those committing crimes and released from jail won't be turned over to ISE for deportation. Why in gods name would you want to protect those that are breaking the law. And I don't care if it's petty theft or murder, why protect them? Break the law, leave. There's thousands of good people waiting to take lawbreakers spots. But it's blatantly obvious Brown hates Trump and will stop at nothing to say FU to his administration even at the cost of the safety of those in Ca. It's cutting his nose off to spite his face, it's very pathetic and lacks vision and basic intelligence (as in, there's a smarter way to go about it).

I do think Brown has a shit storm coming but it wont be from more ISE agents (which will be coming, mark my words), I think it's going to be in the endless and HUGE lawsuits against him and the state for their policies. I think if you sat ANYONE down and pointed out Browns policies regarding public safety (prop 36, 47, 57 AB109) and show how it is a FACT they are absolute failures, yet keep on going, coupled with the easy trail of mis-managed money and dire straights his governship has brought Ca to its current state, I just think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone that would actually say, "he's a great governor". On the surface they might say that with out digging deeper but once you actually look at the finances, raised taxes, crime rates, etc I just don't see how he has been a success.
