Anybody have first hand experience with Jasper reman. engines and their warranty programs? I'm considering one of their diesel eng. products. I know the wealth of knowledge is deep and vast on this crazy forum so lets see if it includes this realm too. Fire when ready....haha

TIA

Ive used a lot of Jasper engines in the past. Well over 100 if I had to guess. Their warranty program is 2nd to none except for maybe that of original manufacturers themselves. Pretty easy process and they pay for labor. However I have noticed a huge falling off of quality from them in the last several years with their marine products, especially in fuel injected applications. Volvos are worse than Mercruisers for some reason but constant issues with failure to idle, not hitting top end rpms, low manifold vacuum out of the box, several engines that had cracked heads, engines loading up, and so on. And Im not a bolt up and go mechanic. I go through the entirety of the fuel, ignition, and cooling systems with every repower.

And then their prices started climbing very fast to the point where I switched to a smaller builder that builds my short/long blocks to order now.

Jasper is a great company, but I had such a bad streak with their quality in the marine world that I moved away from using them because I lost faith in their ability to deliver a quality product.

I dont know if its limited to the marine line or not. I do personally know of a 7.3 by Jasper thats still out their running around with zero issue and it gets heavily abused....

Anyway, this is my first hand experience with them. Take from it what you will.

Thank you for that insight Shlbyntro, I value your opinion significantly.
Great start.....

My shop installs 12-15 Jasper remans per year. Mainly Gas pickup engines and transmissions. Even though we are in diesel pickup country, and work on our share of diesels, we have not installed a diesel engine. As Shelby mentioned, their warranty is the best out there. I've heard soo many horror stories of engines "with a great warranty", that, when needed, the company backpeddles, lies, etc. Jasper, the few times that we've had an issue, have stepped up and stood behind their product. You can pay extra for a premium warranty, covers rentals, pays the shop a higher labor rate, etc. That'd be worthwhile. Check and compare the OE manufacturers reman product as well.

I have a Jasper in a work truck I bought from @wishiknew , Robinsons in Havasu installed. Runs fantastic. Darrell had all sorts of problems with the trans programming and shift points. Cost me nothing but a few down days without the truck. I don't know if Darrell ate it or Jasper did, but I'd buy one again in a heartbeat (from Darrell though).

I lost a Jasper reman 7.3 Powerstroke motor in my old F550 while towing 400 miles from home. The response from Jasper was awesome. Luckily there was a shop nearby Jasper was familiar with, they took care of just about everything. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

Warranty is great...

Had an oil leak in an Old Caddy engine. Rather than pay to fix, they paid to replace the engine.

Hard to beat that!

As a warranty inspection , I have not been called in on a Jasper claim (vs others) Thats probably a good sign ...

I've got a Jasper 8.1 Volvo. It was done about 7 or 8 years ago by the previous owner. The original block froze while on a lift in Georgia. I've put about 165 hours on it and only replaced the spark plugs and front main seal.

Dad bought a Jasper reman 350 shortblock in 98 iirc. .60" over 2 bolt. We ran it for 360hours. Removed and kept for a spare when we upgraded. I remember before installing we were impressed with cleanliness and build quality.

All engine builders at some time will have issues with their rebuild , Jaspers response to warranty issues is second to none . They are also nationwide and have lots of installers . I have installed their gas , diesel and transmissions .

Expensive compared to having my local machine shop do an engine. Have used a few over the years, stopped using them a few years ago due to quality issues and price.

They do have an outstanding warranty.

Had a Jasper put in my boat 5.7 . . . . 13 hours (3 months) later it blew.... quarter size hole in a piston. Didn't cost me a dime for them to replace it.... that was 6 years ago. End result was I was one of three so far in a month time that had a piston failure.

I did one of the full meal deal 7.3's in my 95 F350, turbo and everything. 20k on it now with zero problems. It wasn't cheap but truck wasn't down long compared to having my original rebuilt and the fact that we are on the road so much with it- knowing that there's so many shops available to warranty if I break down far from home is nice. I would do it again without hesitation.

So that was the second engine...... 8 years later from the second engine failure. I just had a nickel size hole in cylinder #5. I'm using Quality Care Marine in the Campbell Cove building this time. They figured out that the timing was WAY off on the damaged engine. This can cause the hole. I am very happy with the service. so, it was a dual problem, MAYBE the shop that did the last one didn't set timing correctly, and I didn't check timing - it was running so smooth and nice for past 8 years. Lesson learned. TIIMING CHECK every year now.

My brother-in-law recently went on the Jasper tour through his work (he's been a wrench for 30+ years). He was absolutely blown away. "State of the art" doesn't even cover it. He says the investments made into quality control are second to none. They have an entire department that does nothing but research and redesign factory flaws in engines resulting in "better than new" rebuilds on some pretty shitty designs. This is a guy that's not excited by much, so it was neat hearing about it.

Well this is a new low Jasper. I have had my bouts with their quality but never in a million years would I have expected this from them.

This is a fresh marine 5.7L GM reman that my friends shop around the corner just received from Jasper. They welded up a froze broke block, it's not even a hard to get 5.0L. Absolutely no excuse.

No opinion on their engines but,,,, I went through 5 Jasper transmissions on my Excursion. Yes 5!! All within their 3 year warrantee period. Shit one of them didn't make it 50 miles before it lost all forward gears. After they refused the 5th I sucked it up and put a BD in it.

Damn!! ^^^^

This thread has me worried. A co-worker just pulled the trigger on a "New" Jasper engine for his truck. Any words of advice for him regarding their "New" engines???

just have whoever is doing the work go over the "new" engine with a fine tooth comb prior to assembly. They can always reject it and have Jasper send another.

wrong cams/valvetrain is what I've seen the most of in the marine world. no idea about the automotive side. Ive also received a couple 2bolt main blocks when I've turned in 4bolt blocks (bbc)

That looks like an aberration in the original casting to me, not a weld. But the photos aren't that great.

ya the gloss paint kept messing with the cameras focus. Any other place I would say "maybe" but I've seen freeze cracks on these blocks follow that exact line at least a dozen times. I have very little doubt.

If this were me I would have sent it back the second I unwrapped it. I don't know what my buddy will be doing on this one but he and I have both sent engines back for much less.
