What is up? When it happened the world was acting like we were all going to die from exposure. The news reported heavily for 3 weeks then...... Nothin! Does dave still have the hatches batten down?? are californians still seeking homes further east? Kinda weird that it all fizzeled out and is hardly reported on anymore. Anyone know what the conditions are over there??

Japanese radiation is much higher quality than domestic radiation.

I just got back from Tokyo Monday morning. I didnt notice any aftershocks in the 20 hours I was there. I go to Tokyo about every other week, and thats the first time I havent been woken up by one since the big one hit. The local news still full of nuke news but its more about compensating victums now instead of immenent disaster. They still have power issues, but the brown outs in the hotels have stopped.

the biggest change i've noticed is the lack of fresh fish and alot of the small shops close at dusk.

Just like any news, its all about ratings. Osama is better for the ratings so nuke news is no longer important. People apparently have short attention spans in this country. However, Drudge Report had this headline a few days ago... http://mdn.mainichi.jp/mdnnews/news/20110516p2a00m0na028000c.html

No different than Swine flu, or any other alarmist reactions the people and news love to propagate.

Saw on CNN that they are building a "cover" to slide over the reactor and contain the leaking radiation.

the folks that were evacuated are still living in school gym's, and they are just now starting to grumble. all the cargo we bring back from japan has been checked for radiation with nothing big ever being reported. At least thats what they tell me.

It's still going on full swing Andrew.. There was massive amounts of radiation poured into the sea, and TEPCO lied about all of it.. They were caught by a few watch dog groups.

They don't have it under control yet, but on the same token it's not out of control like it was, from what I understand.

I understand TEPCO will probably go into receivership. Once that happens, I would imagine all discussions of the problems will be disallowed. After all, what do you expect them to do once they're out of business?
