So, being a passed BL drinker who drank his few remaining pre-queer beers shortly after this stunt and hasn't bought or drank one since I was curious how the stock has held up. Appears to be significantly lower than the day this shit kicked off, and has continued to fall. The stock was in the $66 arena when this all broke and and made a drop, then recovered right back to square one up until October(ish) of 24 and has been dropping like a rock since and is sitting in the $46 arena as of today. I won't drink it, but is now the buy-in time just before the summer swilling seasons kicks off and hope that the masses have forgotten?

BL is all I'd buy prior to the stunt, Coors Light would give me a headache. Once the stunt happened, I quit BL and switched to Coors Light and now don't have the headaches and haven't purchased since.
Now, if someone offers me a beer from their cooler and it's a BL, I will accept it and say thank you. If it's a friend there will be some ribbing though.

AB is selling off some of its major brands. That may be why

Beer consumption is down. Much like the decrease in wine consumption. Couple that with younger consumers (21-34) preferring to drink Spirits, Flavored Malt Beverage, and Hard Seltzers.

I've been investing in TAP due to it being USA based, has a better dividend, more focused and didn't go on a spending spree snatching up what is likely unprofitable micro brew brands. Plus, I like Coors products to begin with, so why not invest in the company you buy product from. Lol

The entire alcohol sector is down. Even Jack Daniels announced they are laying off 12% of their workforce as sales are down year over year. The covid highs are gone.

But..... I for one will do my part and I commit to doubling my JD consumption this year. As for Bud Light - Fuck No.

Damn. I didn't think I had cut back that much.

All of my friends used to drink BL. Ever since this happened, nobody has bought it. Nobody drinks it. One of my friends has a garage fridge that is almost full of it cause a couple random friends of friends brought it and nobody has drank it. My friend group alone has likely contributed to the drop quiet a bit. lo!

From my buddy who owns El Segundo Brewing who makes killer beer:

NIQ: Beer -2.9% Volume, -0.7% in Dollars in 2024

Source: Brewbound

January 7, 2025

The beer category finished 2024 in the red, with off-premise dollar sales declining -0.7% and volume -2.9%, for the 52-week period ending December 28, according to market research firm NIQ.

Three segments ended the year in the black in both volume and dollars:

• Imports (+2.5% volume, +4.2% dollars); (these are BL guys going to Modelo) or illegals…..

• Domestic super premiums (+0.6% volume, +1.5% dollars);

• And flavored malt beverages (FMB), excluding hard seltzers (+3.8% volume, +5.5% dollars).

Craft beer declined -4.3% in volume and -2.4% in dollars. Craft’s share of beer category dollars was 11.4% (-0.2) and volume 8.1% (-0.1) to close 2024.

Other segments in decline included:

• Hard seltzer (-12.2% volume, -9.4% dollars);

• Premium regulars (-6% volume, -3.8% dollars);

• Premium lights (-7.7% volume, -6.1% dollars);

• Hard cider (-4.1% volume, -2.1% dollars);

• Below premium (-2.6% volume, -0.5% dollars);

• And malt liquor (-6.9% volume, -3.7% dollars).

The average case price for beer increased to $30.78, +$0.70 compared to 2023.

Super premium is Michelin ultra and crap like that. Core brands of bud miller coors are domestic premiums

My kids and their friends don’t drink much if any at all. Times have changed but they’re more health conscience and also grew up watching everyone get plastered in Havasu and it kinda turned them off.

Don’t get me wrong they do have a drink here and there but nothing like me and my friends when we were their age. I think it also has to do with the fact that it’s fucking expensive to go out and drink or even buy a pack of beer.

I have done my share to help support your Buddy.

Common spaces and the brewery across the street are my favorite local brewery beers though.

That's surprising to me. Around here beer is much less expensive. I noticed today while perusing the Albertson's weekly ad that a case of Coors Light is on sale for $21.50. The usual price is about $24. Twelve packs of premium domestic beer have been around $16-$18 throughout and beyond the pandemic, which is what I was paying around 2000-2004.

Dunno why I'm paying attention to beer prices, I quit drinking in 2006. Maybe it's so I multiply $18 X 365 = $6,570 and confirm another reason why alcohol was a negative factor in my life.

😁

Would be interesting to get the RD member that owns a brewery's take. I can't remember his name.

No kids of my own but I notice the same thing with young kids not drinking as much. Absolutely not a bad trend.

It’s because weed is now mostly legal and there are weed shops on almost every corner now (and it’s less filling, but it doesn’t taste great).
Depends on the strain and the smell can be awesome , at least thats what folks tell me 🤣

Remember when 7-11 always had 12 packs of Bud, Coors, and Miller for $5.99? And it wasn’t that long ago either.

I wonder if legalized pot and legal micro dosing has increased while drinking has decreased with the younger generation. It would be interesting your kids response to that, mine are too young.

My boys smoked some pot when it became legal but they don't do it any longer. My oldest didn't like the way it made him feel paranoid and the other one just isn't into partying at all. He's locked in to finishing school and studying for his LSAT right now. Our daughter is the same way. Just not into partying. We let them all do whatever they want at the house (drink, smoke etc...) so it was never a big deal for them. Never made it into something they would have to sneak away to try and I think that helped with the way they are now. Even with all that freedom, they're just not into it. I think my wife and I party more than them lol.

Most the breweries I go to are 90% Mexican customers. They love there craft beer.

I drink Budlight still. My workers don't touch it. But they drink all my Modelos regularly.

I can drink 6-8 Modelo and then I am burned out. I can drink 4 805s. If we're drinking at tge River I can throw down 20-30 BLs. Wake up feeling fine. Doesn't mess with my stomach.

Certain craft beers destroy me after a few. So dehydrated I can't sleep and a headache next morning. Few of the light ones I can drink all day long. Smog city, Common spaces, Firestone walker and LA brewing have those.

One of our friends has continued to drink BL since they stepped on their dick without missing a beat. We have given up calling him every name in the book but a straight white male.

I guess he's just comfy in his pale white feminine skin.

I don't give a fuck what people think. I need to be able to wake up in the morning and function. I tried hard to quit drinking altogether. But I can't sleep with so many jobs on my mind. Last 5 nights in a row I slept good after 4 BLs. But still couldn't fall asleep until after 130.

Yep! Grew up with him. Fought him in 5th grade over a spelling bee gone bad. Still see him once a month or so when I leave the OC. I take it you know him? I think you are a block or so away from where I grew up

That's always been my litmus test for if the beer sale is good $0.50 a can

I personally haven't a beer in years but I think the big three for our age, bud light, coors light and miller lite are going bye bye. Everyone I know that's under 40 wants to drink a craft beer with some weird name.
