8.5 feet long :thumbsdown:thumbsdown:thumbsdown:thumbsdown:thumbsdown:thumbsdown
550 lbs :thumbsdown:thumbsdown:thumbsdown:thumbsdown:thumbsdown:thumbsdown
160 (or 170) horsepower

very long, very heavy. That's great for rough water. I hear the top speed is horrible. NON supercharged big 4 stroke. Low to mid 60s. My 94 SXI 750 was going 70,, with a shit load of money in it.
But, its not about top speed in racing, it acceleration and speed in the rough. This will do good wide open in bad water.
Now on the flip side, you can get a Bullett racing stand up that will go 90mph. But it will set you back about 30k. I also hear it going to be $10500, that gets announced at next months dealer show.
Its interesting, I think they failed in the race world. But who knows. Its not going to be good in the surf, but that's a small market. So, it could be a great cruiser for any age and shape, to me it looks very very easy to ride.
The guys I know that have rode it say its crap, but they are racers.

I was just watching a water cross event in tv, and these Kommander K1 ski's were kicking ass on everything out there. Had never heard of them, but definitely bad ass.

Kommander is the Kawi guru

It looks mighty cool, i'm sure heavier than the 2 smokes but it is a step forward. i'm really glad Kawi didn't completely abandon the stand up jet ski crowd. will be interesting to see the ride reviews. it is way out of my price range, and in the future im just trying to get my hands on a gently used 800 SXR to have in the lineup. but until then ill be raging on my vintage smokers and enjoying them while i still can. i now have to rebuild my PJS Viper engine due to a crank seal leak that roached my forward cylinder....arg....and in the meantime my X2 is almost done and im looking forward to riding and racing that sucker!:D:D

Buy one, sell the engine, remove all extra hardware and electronics and drop in a 2 smoke racing motor.

I'd do anything to ride one again at Lake Mohave like when I was a kid

I hope it's amazingly cool, so people will buy them and sxr's and sj's will drop in price so I can buy one.

Riding to Laughlin from Havasu and back - would be pretty cool. Man that extra 200 pounds and overall size is going to be grueling out of the water. Trailers / transit to and from shop stands. My back is already hurting - thinking about it. :D

Andy01 - I think you should get one and let us test it out. :thumbsup :yikes

I still have my Sea Doo HX.
Right after I bought it I put a 785cc motor in it, now has a 951cc. It's (I think) the best ocean Ski.
I always thought it would make a great "Stand Up" ski because of it's length.

Sorry to be the burden of bad news....... But direct from someone thats ridden it, its a FAIL ! might be good for someone that wants to go out and ride from the Springs to Pirates, but doesn't handle ANYWHERE like a real Jetski. Its a 15F with a handle pole. Kanamorie built this on a complete shoe string budget out of leftover parts. He wanted a new light weight two cyl motor like a Hydrospace, Kawi doesn't have one, and wouldn't tool it up. Not enough volume to pencil out.
When I saw the teaser video last month I was EXCITED, had my credit card in hand to reserve the first one. I started calling a few people I know behind the sceens. All said its a PLAY boat. From the guy thats in the video.... Racing it will have to be a more open GP style layout. No Way would be on a current track, it doesn't turn like a current smaller ski.
Total bumer! Can't believe we've waited this long for what they released :( The guys over at HydroSpace are laughing their butts off over this.

but....im not going to race at my age. Those days are gone. I watched every video I could find and heres my opinion. It looks good. Yes its heavy and long. But the acceleration makes up for that. I studied the riding video, watching the corner 'set up' in particular. Only one time does it appear a rider is struggling to get it to 'set' at speed. Once the turn is done the out of corner speed is great and flat on the throttle. No hop. This struggle was minor, he didn't have the lean, throttle and bar angle correct but that was due to no time on the unit.
I watched straight speed as well, there is no wake hop or wake prep from the rider, just gas it. The added weight helps that. Top speed im told is slow, low 60s. but, low 60s on chop is fast. Not hydrospace or Bullett racing fast but this isn't that ski.
The slow corning appears good, sharp, nice easy lean and lean out to flat.
The motor, its a older 4 stroke. But its still 150 plus HP. It wont break!! That's huge to me. I also wouldn't need to modify anything, again, that's huge. Its a proven motor, hold it wide open for years and it wont fail.

heres what it isn't. A race prepped jet ski. Although in a 'stock' class it would be fun a cheaper way to go race. Its not a freestyle ski, if you like spinning out, doing tricks this isn't for you. Its not a surf ski, which is 1% of the market anyways.

heres what it is. A easy to ride at any skill level water craft. reliable, half the price of a hydro blah blah or hull made by a after market company. Its great lake ski, or river. Mild chop will not kill you. Its not a unit you will throw in your truck.

The racing market is 20% for stand ups, but that's because there hasn't been a Kawasaki stand up made in years. That percentage will change once units are sold to rec only riders. So Kawa, made this for the other 80%, why wouldn't they? They cant make money on 20%

The only people that have rode and made comments are racers, well we don't like anything that's not race ready. Im not going to race again, my sons maybe. But that's another story. Id buy one and theres a good chance I will.

Good take...I am in that 80%..totally a rec rider...not a crazy trick or racer...... I had a 440 way back and thought it was fun but not comfy....had a SXi750 several years ago...fun but not as stable as my brothers SXR...so I got the SXR ...heavier but faster and easier without any mods. This seems like it might be a bit heavier for cornering but with the extra power it should help...Looking forward to riding...

I rode my stock 550 a couple hundred miles this summer and enjoyed every minute of it! That being said, I could never keep up with my buddies, they were all on 800's, 750's, sj's and a couple 650's. I could hang with the x2's though lol. I hope I run into someone that gets a new sxr cause Id love to ride one. I have no desire to race, I like long rides, in and out of coves, and just cruising. I think the new sxr fits that bill, unfortinatly I wont be able to afford the bill of it. I rode a buddies 750 last time out and was prety much blown away at how much easier it was to ride than my 550. Ive been on an 800 before too but was probably tuned up and hadnt ridden mine in a year or so so I didnt have much to compare to. I know I dont like my 550 on the lake on a weekend, its just not fun to ride! If the new ones are that much better in the rough that would be a selling point for me, I live at the lake and dont even enjoy taking my skis out!

Sooooooooooo, who's getting one first :D

be at dealers next spring. 50% chance I get 2, 70% I get 1. 2 of them will be less than a new razor!

Dont even get me started on razors! lol Maybe, hopefuly, they take off and drive the prices of 800's down. Then I just have to find my money tree........

I actually heard the same thing. BUT after seeing everything I think its ok. Just not TRACK ready as all the racers hoped for. I will have breakfast this weekend with the Bullet racing guys and pick their brains. Keep in mind, to be competitive racing on a stand up its a $20000 investment now. The racing side was praying for a turn key stand up to go win. They didn't get it.

Most important is Kawasaki jumped back into stand ups. That's huge. If this is successful the following years the might dump some more money into this program and who knows what we will get.

I'm not a racer and want a play ski, if it rides good I'll be buying one in April or sometime in the spring when they come out.

In the end game, here we have at least a fresh entry into the market with a 4 stroke EPA approved engine, (that of course is not yet electric) I am excited for it, and yes it looks and is indeed heavier than what we wanted to see. but with a 1500cc 4 cylinder what can we expect. other than vintage, it is what it is, and it is definitely not a 2 smoker. I would love to add one to my racing stable, but due to budget constraints, it looks like it will be a long time if not ever for me. for now I will continue to improve my 550s and hopefully finish my X2. I am older but dont plan on ever stopping racing until I cant swing a leg up. I refuse to grow up!! and to the fellas on here that race, I hope to see you all at the next best in the west series this coming year. I tried ski racing this past July for the first time, and had a blast. looking forward to the next series to compete in. :D:D

Didn't know they were hitting 90mph, knew standup's were in the 70+mph range.
