I was just watching a water cross event in tv, and these Kommander K1 ski's were kicking ass on everything out there. Had never heard of them, but definitely bad ass.
I got to see it in person at WF, and it looks awesome, very user friendly seems. heres a video!

but....im not going to race at my age. Those days are gone. I watched every video I could find and heres my opinion. It looks good. Yes its heavy and long. But the acceleration makes up for that. I studied the riding video, watching the corner 'set up' in particular. Only one time does it appear a rider is struggling to get it to 'set' at speed. Once the turn is done the out of corner speed is great and flat on the throttle. No hop. This struggle was minor, he didn't have the lean, throttle and bar angle correct but that was due to no time on the unit.
I watched straight speed as well, there is no wake hop or wake prep from the rider, just gas it. The added weight helps that. Top speed im told is slow, low 60s. but, low 60s on chop is fast. Not hydrospace or Bullett racing fast but this isn't that ski.
The slow corning appears good, sharp, nice easy lean and lean out to flat.
The motor, its a older 4 stroke. But its still 150 plus HP. It wont break!! That's huge to me. I also wouldn't need to modify anything, again, that's huge. Its a proven motor, hold it wide open for years and it wont fail.
heres what it isn't. A race prepped jet ski. Although in a 'stock' class it would be fun a cheaper way to go race. Its not a freestyle ski, if you like spinning out, doing tricks this isn't for you. Its not a surf ski, which is 1% of the market anyways.
heres what it is. A easy to ride at any skill level water craft. reliable, half the price of a hydro blah blah or hull made by a after market company. Its great lake ski, or river. Mild chop will not kill you. Its not a unit you will throw in your truck.
The racing market is 20% for stand ups, but that's because there hasn't been a Kawasaki stand up made in years. That percentage will change once units are sold to rec only riders. So Kawa, made this for the other 80%, why wouldn't they? They cant make money on 20%
The only people that have rode and made comments are racers, well we don't like anything that's not race ready. Im not going to race again, my sons maybe. But that's another story. Id buy one and theres a good chance I will.
be at dealers next spring. 50% chance I get 2, 70% I get 1. 2 of them will be less than a new razor!
Sorry to be the burden of bad news....... But direct from someone thats ridden it, its a FAIL ! might be good for someone that wants to go out and ride from the Springs to Pirates, but doesn't handle ANYWHERE like a real Jetski. Its a 15F with a handle pole. Kanamorie built this on a complete shoe string budget out of leftover parts. He wanted a new light weight two cyl motor like a Hydrospace, Kawi doesn't have one, and wouldn't tool it up. Not enough volume to pencil out.
When I saw the teaser video last month I was EXCITED, had my credit card in hand to reserve the first one. I started calling a few people I know behind the sceens. All said its a PLAY boat. From the guy thats in the video.... Racing it will have to be a more open GP style layout. No Way would be on a current track, it doesn't turn like a current smaller ski.
Total bumer! Can't believe we've waited this long for what they released The guys over at HydroSpace are laughing their butts off over this.
You can be such a dark cloud sometimes....sheeesh:rotflmao:
Looks pretty sick....can't wait to ride one....So much hate from everyone who heard it from their sisters, boyfriend's brother...
very long, very heavy. That's great for rough water. I hear the top speed is horrible. NON supercharged big 4 stroke. Low to mid 60s. My 94 SXI 750 was going 70,, with a shit load of money in it.
But, its not about top speed in racing, it acceleration and speed in the rough. This will do good wide open in bad water.
Now on the flip side, you can get a Bullett racing stand up that will go 90mph. But it will set you back about 30k. I also hear it going to be $10500, that gets announced at next months dealer show.
Its interesting, I think they failed in the race world. But who knows. Its not going to be good in the surf, but that's a small market. So, it could be a great cruiser for any age and shape, to me it looks very very easy to ride.
The guys I know that have rode it say its crap, but they are racers.
