Mine has too, weird part is I have a pic of him from last year at this same time were he had a hot spot. Makes me think he may get some kind of seasonal itch/allergy in Oct/Nov.

Anyways, I'm subscribed for the remedies

I had stopped using special dog shampoo for my late boxer and began using Neutrogena shampoo and the itchy spots went away and she smelled much better.

Google apoquel. Not sure on the spelling. It's a pill, my cocker spaniel takes it. Works wonders..

Once a month Cytopoint shots and bathing mine using MiconaHex + Triz medicated shampoo once a week is the only thing that has helped my dog. Neither are cheap.

Get it tested for allergies. My friends just did it with their frenchie and it's allergic to damn near everything lol The only thing they can feed it now is fish. The dog is allergic to grass, grain, ants, beef, chicken, eggs, turkey, etc. etc.

Our coon hound has been itching bad as well especially on her tail and ass area, can't get it under control, she is biting, licking and dragging her ass a lot as well as scratching and biting other areas more than normal. We have done a couple dewormings and made sure her anal gland isn't full recently with no relief. Glad we aren't the only ones, I hate my dogs being uncomfortable.

From my experience it's so different from dog to dog.
We've tried almost everything under the sun with our last 3-4 dogs. Some worked, others didn't.
One thing I can say was that most of the vet-prescribed remedies didn't help much. . . and were very expensive.
Fish oil in the food worked on a lab we used to have . . . head & shoulders shampoo on one of our Aussies.
Another one of our Aussies just needed more brushing in the spring /fall to help get rid of its winter / summer coats.
This probably didn't help . . . but IMO there is no magic answer for all dogs . . . just try out what you think will work best for your particular situation.

We give two pumps of Fish oil on their dog food. Has worked fantastic on their coats and skin of our Chessies.
Also heard of a recall from dog food that we use. Victor's had a salmonella outbreak.

I agree every dog is different and theee is no one med that helps them all. When the "summer itch" arrives, we keep him indoors and it goes away. It's the only thing that works. We tried different foods, oils, eggs, baths, meds...nodda worked.

Good luck with the pooches.

Our dog gets super itchy in the summer. She seems to do a little better after a haircut, but still itches. This year she has had a couple of Cytopoint shots and the Apoquil pills. Barely itches any more. Vet says it’s some sort of allergy.

Just be careful with the " drops on the back of the neck" stuff..We went that way once. Our Retriever mix started having siezures..horrible learning curve..had no idea regarding breed type and reactions at the time.

Cytopoint shot.. Apoquel or Atopica are what most of the vets are prescribing now. We have a German Shepherd with bad allergies that have been causing some bad skin infections. He just got off of 6 weeks of a very strong antibiotic to kick the last one and got that infection while on Apoquel. Cytopoint worked well for awhile and was the easiest as it’s the shot every 6 weeks as opposed to daily or twice daily meds. Specialist dermatologist vet says it’s likely environmental allergies. He’s switched to atopica now and hoping that works for allergies/ itching.

It’s worse after a visit to the groomer.

Our German Shepherd had worn the hair off the back of his ears from scratching. One dose of Apoquel was like flipping a switch. He stopped itching within the hour. He takes one pill every day at dinnertime (hidden in a hunk of summer sausage) and it keeps him from itching for 24 hours. If I miss the timing by an just hour or two he starts itching again. It's been working for him for almost two years. My wife buys it online for half the price of the local vet.

Remember guys. Medication is just masking what the real issue is. It’s always best to eliminate what’s causing the reaction in the first place. Could be food, environment, or other medications. It may take some time, but best in the long run.

I’d love to figure out the cause. Our vet said German Shepherds are the poster “child” for skin allergies. We’ve tried different foods, baths, and supplements. There’s a lot of variables, including the fact that we live on a lake (that he’s always in), in a mixed forest with innumerable plants and trees. Rinsing him in fresh water every evening helps. Open to suggestions.

It's rough. Even the better foods suck. Dyes and processed crap. Almost impossible to get away from unless you go to a raw meat diet and thats expensive and time consuming.

I have shepherds as well, but am fortunate not to have any issues like your pup. My 2yr old is a sealcoat and she had drier skin when she was about 1, but I started giving her an egg every other day and that went away pretty quick. Makes her black coat shine too!

and as I mentioned. I'll take the warm leftover grease and pour it over their dry food. Every time I lose a dog I'm reminded that I'm lucky to get 10 years with them. F it! Ya'll getting spoiled. I just took some venison scraps out of the freezer to use as training treats over the weekend... Pretty sure they're training me. 😂

Talking about itchy dogs and how my Coonhound is having issues and I don't like my dogs feeling uncomfortable.... well my poor Golden Retrever was sicker than shit last night, between 1am and 5am we had to let him out 6 times to either shit (diarrhea) puke or both. You could just tell he was worn-out this morning and was done. He is a self feeder so we fed him this morning and he ate just not right away and slept most of the morning, he's bouncing around now so I guess he is feeling better. I don't like it when my dogs are uncomfortable.

Yea, sometimes it’s not easy, and can be a very long proce of elimination. My in-laws delt with this for a long time. Ended up being their dog was allergic to CHICKEN ! Now who would have ever thought of that. Trying to reduce one variable at a time is really the only way. And unfortunately, that’s still no guarantee. Best of luck for your pups sake.
