WELCOME TO RIVER DAVES PLACE

It’s surprising to see this “Cigarette” delaminate at Haulover Inlet.

Brutal!!!

I read they may have hit a submerged shipping container. That shit freaks me out running out in the pacific. More of those fuckin things floating around out there than I’d prefer. Bryan “that guy” hit one on his way to Catalina on a previous boat he had. Nearly ripped the transom off.

Damn really? I wouldn’t ever think of that to be honest but then again don’t do much offshore boating.

Pops has come across them several times as well as large logs and power poles.

It would also explain why they are taking on water. A friend's sisters boat had like 30% of the bottom of her boat delam on a 1.5 year old Regal but it didn't take on water. Regal stood by their product and gave her a new boat with no issue.

Had to have hit something, right? No way that caliber of boat just does that without impact

I’m not so sure this is a delam. Has anyone confirmed it’s a delam?

I saw this video yesterday, and my first thought was that they hit a container. They, unfortuntely, are fkn everywhere in the ocean. I cannot see a non metal object pealing it like that.

Who was it on here that has a fishing sport yacht deal in SoCal that hit a freaking floating couch a few years back and fouled is underwater gear all up!?

This happened to a friends boat many years ago on the river near Park Moabi.

Damage from a strike can cause the glass to delam as well. The hydrostatic pressure spilts the lamination after the crack or gel damage.

There is no shortage of junk floating offshore. Shipping containers. Docks. Refrigerators. and lots more!

However, the video below stands out as the item you really don’t want to run into……..

That is insane! Last thing you'd expect boating in the wide-open big blue away from land

My fear for some of those live aboard sailboat folks that cross huge stretches at night.

LOL anchorage hoping in BVI is my max.

I’ve seen logs and telephone poles running the Catalina ski race. Wasn’t a big deal before in a jet boat but with a six drive I am way more concerned about coming across that.

Almost every year you can come across almost anything. Most of them will cause you a boat issue one way or another.

Logs and telephone poles are at their worst when vertical in the water column. These are known as deadheads. Totally soaked with water and bobbing vertically, with just a portion slightly above the surface. They’ll punch a massive hole in most any hull.

Check out this video……..

Why'd they go back into the inlet? I would have headed towards the beach then accelerated and ran it up on the beach. Then at least it wouldn't have sank and you could have recovered it off the beach somehow (helo crane?).

I hit a large log floating like that (at least I think I did) in the middle of Isabella doing 80 in my Eliminator. Within seconds I had water at my feet. Just barely had time to run it up onto the beach before it sank.

What makes you think it sank? odds are if you run it up on beach it will be totaled. the waves will end up turning it sideways and roll it over, it was taking on water but no where near sinking, Haulover marina is right next to the inlet so they probably headed right there and had a forklift waiting, depending on damage the boat is probably fixable

Ok, well the video made it sound like it sank. I didn't think the damage was enough to do it, but I think the way the guy was handling the boat the video was making it look worse than it was. And if he was headed for a trailer then that makes sense, I didn't know there's a marina in there, I figured it was just an inland waterway like C-Ya has in front of his place and no place to pull the boat out. Heck if the marina had a lift and they just craned it out to the trailer that would work too.

Thanks for the clarification.

Sure…… that’s an option, but it should be used as a last ditch effort.

For me, if I were loosing the battle, meaning that the water was coming in faster than my pumps could get it out, I would go straight to my VHF radio. My goal at that point, to use Chanel 10 to get a tow boat with pump. While I continue towards them.

One last thing about having a hole in your boat……… It is worth the effort to find out where the water is coming in. Then, do whatever it takes to try to block the hole. In this case, it might have been a futile effort, but you don’t know until you asses the situation. Based on the amount of de lamination, a typical plug probably wouldn’t have worked, but a well placed towel or other such debris, could have slowed the flow.
