Hey guys!
I’m newer to the page, my old man’s been on for years. He brought us up going to Big River, Parker, and Havasu. He creeps on all your guys’ threads and sends em to my brother and I when he thinks we’d be interested Pops broke us out on his late 70’s cheetah jet w/ a 455, then more recently a 23’ caliber 1 I/O w/ a 454 that he’s since got rid of. Since then, the older brother and I decided it was time to start doing our part and taking the family out. He’s got a late 80’s ski boat and I picked an early 00’s Centurion last spring. All last year and early this year I towed it back and forth from SoCal to havasu with my 01 f250 CCLB 7.3. The truck never failed me towing it, but has 170k on stock trans, rear end... basically everything under it is still factory. Made me nervous pulling the grade out of Indio and watching trans temp hit 230. That was my breaking point. I parked the 7.3, picked up a 15 f150 w ecoboost and started using it. I love the power and comfort of the newer truck, but have been struggling with mileage. The 7.3 got 15-18 towing the boat, whereas the 1/2 ton gets 8-10 mpg. Wondering if anyone’s made any tweaks to squeeze mileage out of the ecoboost WITHOUT voiding the warranty. Thanks!

A buddy of ours pulls a 26 deck boat with a 4wd crew cab 3.5 eco. He gets 12-14 pulling depending. Tuning would yield the most gain, but warranty will be an issue.

Yeah, I’ve done quite a bit of homework. A catch can for oil blow by, cat back system, cold air, and tuner seems to make huge improvements for them. That’s my concern though, I just don’t it to void anything.

Oil separator for sure, check out the volant powercore. Exhaust makes them sound like a wet fart.

perfect analogy, yeah I’m not a fan either, but at this point I’d be willing to try

Just buy a diesel truck. Your wife can sit on the launch ramp with the ac blasting cool air while you both wait for the morons on the ramp to get out of the way for you to drop in or pull out. Don’t worrie to much about the mileage. It all works out in the end.

Ex wife doesn’t make it to the river with me much these days :D lol I kind of put the ol 7.3 into retirement when I bought the half ton. I need to invest some time and money into it before it’s river ready again. Morons at the ramp aren’t getting much better these days. I always go to the marina and pay a little extra to avoid the jackasses at site 6 and Windsor, but anymore it seems just as bad.
