Saw that the last time i was in town. It was my go to when i was in that area.
Our Chino location is still open as of last weekend. It’s usually pretty busy though.

May need to run down there while it's still there.

Man that sucks, I liked that chain. Was down in Long Beach and saw one still there but didn’t get to go at the time.

Most of SD has closed already

Encinitas - Closed
Carlsbad Outlet Mall - open
Carlsbad Shoppes - open

The Encinitas location for some season had the best food. Other 2 locations are dead unless it is happy hour

I liked a burger and the unlimited fries and watch a ball game in the evening. Expensive, but that kept Simis drunken assholes out of the bar.

Unrelated but rent cost probably being the problem I was having a drink Yesterday at the DTD UVA bar and got to talking to the general manager. We got to talking about Brennan's' Jazz Kitchen may be leaving. Under refurbishment,, no one know for sure.
He said Disney charges astronomical rents and gets half the register.

That's why the cool little cup cake joint folded too.
I couldn't run a business and keep enthusiasm bleeding cash.

The next burger chain to fold may be Red Robin.

Yep, pretty sure. I do remember sitting on that really excellent patio and when the Sheriffs jail bus drove by down below on Agoura rd the inmates would yell my name.

I don’t think it’s rents. I think it’s 20$ an hour to pay people.
And that's just the ones that show up for work. Couple places around here have 1/2 hr wait for a table and you go in and see a bunch of empty ones. No employees for the others.

Seems Agoura, Westlake and Thousand Oaks have lost just about all the decent chain restaurants. They are being replaced by all these trendy overpriced yuppy places due to the change of demographic out here. Catering to the Tesla driving, skinny jean puffer jacket libs!!

The only good chains I can think of are Woodranch and Finneys. Maybe BJs on the right night.

The others have slipped since I was a kid.

Westlake and Thousand Oaks have turned it up with independent restaurants that turn out good food and drinks.

Agoura has as well by the canyon club.

We eat in Westlake and Agoura all the time. Wood Ranch in Agoura is still solid. Food is always good there. Finney's in Westlake is good too and the prices are reasonable. We go there 3-4 times a month. We went to Nonna Italian restaurant for my wife's birthday a couple weeks ago and it was really good. Service was excellent.

Islands has gone way downhill. We have one by work we use for lunch meetings. It was always decent, but has not been good after Covid. AND they got rid of the "free refills" on fries.

CARLSBAD Calif. The 57-unit Islands Restaurants chain on Tuesday confirmed the planned closure this week of a unit in Orange County, Calif.

Cara Sprague, senior marketing manager, said the 20-year lease for the location had expired and the chain decided not to renew it because of saturation for the brand in that market. No other store closures are planned currently, she said.

The 60 to 80 employees at the Laguna Hills, Calif., location destined to close Wednesday night will be offered positions elsewhere within the all-corporate-owned system, she said.

Known for its burgers-and-surfing theme, the casual-dining Islands chain opened one new unit in 2008, but no new openings are planned for this year. Sprague said the chain is undergoing an internal reorganization, though no layoffs are planned.

The casual-dining segment has been among the hardest hit in the industry as cash-strapped consumers trade down to lower-priced alternatives.

Carlsbad, Calif.-based Islands, which celebrated its 25th anniversary last year, has been focusing on marketing efforts to better convey the brand’s image as a “beach-inspired” escape. The restaurants are located in California, Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii and Nevada.

Carlsbad Claim Jumper folded a while back. One of the better locations especially after the BK and split up.

Covid rules towards business finished off a lot of good places one way or another as well and that is still happening I guess.

Ali and I met some Darden Exects though not affiliated with Claim Jumper, they said that Claim Jumper was too good and too big and their overhead spread the profits too thin.
Arguably good for sure.

Fridays is all but gone too
Chilies same
Our Fridays is shit, way over priced for barely average food. Our Chili's is actually pretty decent now. Our CPK has good food but service is almost non-existent and I don't know what @Rayson1971 is talking about but we definitely have a different experience at Red Robin than he is having, there is a couple servers we stay away from. I would love to get an Applebee's back.

Fridays in general just sucks now. Used to be packed when I was a kid. Chilies same thing. Friday night wait time we’re 30 min to hour. Now walk in any time of day.

An article a while back talked about sit down restaurants really hit hard by Biden's inflation. People are going to McDonalds and such instead. Sad.
