Is there a next generation of River people coming up or are they just gonna live in mom and dads basement and scream “mom meatloaf” when they are hungry?

Where is the 20 year old kid with the little jet boat and smoking hot chick? Afraid to post up around all the old rich guys? Does this kid still exist?

Priced out of the game seems like a real thing for the youth of today, new trucks are $100k, new boats are double that, River pads are 8 times that. I bought my first house at 25, first new suburban shortly after and first new boat by age 30, maybe a little younger. Kept ann old 5th wheel ant the landing on the cheap. All in it was well under a half a million bucks, house was mortgaged, truck, boat, and 5th wheel were paid for with savings from working and stashing extra money. Looking back it was actually not that expensive of a thing now that age and lifestyle creep has slipped into the picture 😂

Any yout’s on RDP making it happen with the River lifestyle and some fine ass hina?

Jet Botes are still cheap, it's the fuel that's expensive!

I see some young dudes out on the river, but they aren't the majority. The well-off kids have wakeboard boats, and like it or not - that is where the fine ass hina's usually are these days

They are out there every weekend in their wake boats and the River Karen’s complain about how much debt they must be in with their $100k truck and $200k wake tractor. 😂

Not every truck is $100k and not every boat is $200k+. If you look, there are plenty of young people that have figured that out.

You don’t need to spend half a million dollars to go the the river. You can do what you described with a truck, trailer and boat spending as little as $100k. As you pointed out, All 3 for $100k would just be unacceptable to the membership here 😂, they would rather sit at home than deal with that pauperism.

100k?
Van down by the river or a truck camper with boat on anchor can be done under 40k or less.

We are watching the generation of no sacrifices
Want it now .
150 k job
Million dollar home that has to be 15 minutes at most to job
Then a river house at 750k
100k truck
250 k boat

there’s bunch of young people on the river. I meet them all the time at three dunes cause it makes me reevaluate my life. 🤣

This.

If the premise were true that there were no young people coming out, the crowds would be shrinking. They are not shrinking.

If they are coming out on their own boat, or a parent’s boat is almost irrelevant.

Well they arent on RDP because if they came on here to show off their little jet boat and home made stereo system with their beat up Ford ranger....most the people on here would essentially tell them to "go be poor somewhere else", that the truck isnt rated to tow that boat and their speakers are junk, etc.....lol

There are youngsters coming up don't you worry! I spent the day with my nephews on Sunday and they are prime examples. One is married with two really young girls, but he has grown up on the Parker Strip. He is in the beginning stages of a lifelong career after job-hopping for a few years. He was recently hired by a helluva good company, and will be set for life if he doesn't step on his dick. He's had a few jet skis but had to sell them to make ends meet. He was joking on Sunday saying "I can't wait to buy a jet bote!" I give him another year or two and he'll have his own float.

His younger brother is also in the same situation. He is beginning his firefighter career and is in the process with two large agencies. This young man has been focused on his career since he was 14, and at the age of 23, is close to being "Set." He currently has a jet ski but will most likely have a boat in a couple years too.

My older son also grew up going to Parker with his cousins. He doesn't have a boat yet, but him and his wife do have jet skis and frequent the Parker Strip and the lower river south of Blythe. Him and his wife are expecting a new addition on the upcoming months, so they may be off the water for a year or so as they adjust to being new parents.

So, rest assured, there ARE young men and women coming into age who will most likely carry on the torches of the lifestyle synonymous with "The River." 🤘

I disagree with this. I think if a young guy posted his cheap boat and truck it would get lots of positive responses, especially from us older guys talking about how we started out the same way.

Now I'm far from being a young guy just starting out but I picked up this cheap little jet bote last summer and it got lots of positive comments on here and no negative ones. My first jet so I know nothing about them and many inmates chimed in with great advice. I paid only $6500 for it so I would think a lot of young guys could afford something like this.

I don't go to The River much anymore because I live far away but the local lakes around here have lots of young people on them. Yes, most are in wake boats or cheap runabouts but there are performance boat guys too. You don't see much big dollar stuff here though but there are some on Tahoe.

I think it it easier here because dragging your boat to a local lake is a lot easier than a trip to The River. They are close by so it doesn't take long to get there (=more boating time) and you can just go home at night. If you go to The River you have to pay for a place to stay, go out to eat, more gas used, etc so it costs a lot more. I'm sure younger guys are still going but probably can't afford to go every weekend.

When I started boating many moons ago, I worked in a hospital washing dishes before graduating up to being a janitor. I paid my car insurance and bought my own car. I also bought 71 Hondo jet boat. We camped in tents, ate baloney and slept in sleeping bags. Everyone pitched in for food, gas , ice and beer. Life was just great and we appreciated everything we had from the boat down to the Coleman Lantern.!!!!

They still exist!! I see them at the river all the time. I dont think forums are there thing though.

Earlier this year we ran accross several old members (Hot Boat days) kids at Foxes and they were tearing it up like we all used too. They were staying at the family houses borrowing the family boats doing it exactly the way we once did. I told Kathy " Look at them!! Thats how fun we used to be lol"

The stand up jet ski crowd has a lot of people in this age range in it. I rode skis all through college (5 years ago) and have a lot of buddies that did as well. I think you’ll see this crowd graduate to boats but it will be more of a late 20s early 30s thing.

I see them all the time. Some are in wake boat most are in older boats. Lots of hotties around them. They are partying hard as they should.

Likely what they don’t have is a place at the river.

I bought my first trailer and boat at 31 yo.

One of my friend is 28 and got an 33x speedster. Havasu house, self made and all. One of the biggest hustlers I know. His whole group of friends is under 30 and all have 30ft + cats.

I have a couple friends who are middle aged and young that attend the So Cal jet boats events and from the looks of their posts Affordable performance boating is alive and well. It looks like good people and a damn good time. I love riding in a boat I can reach out and touch the water while moving.

The Lower River Outboards group seems to have a lot of younger guys, once I buy a house a Stoker and Blythe will be calling my name.

My little brother has a lot of friends (early 20s) who own smaller OBs. Most still live at home and use the family river house. As you can see by the other threads, those who are in their 20s and live at home aren’t welcome on RDP lol.

..."with their beat up Ford ranger"....

Let's get an authority to chime in @Shlbyntro 😁

I've pulled an X55 with my "beat up little Ranger"

granted it was less than 100yards on flat ground....

My priorities have definitely changed in this last year but I've still been getting on the water anyway I can. I'm not sure I'd fit in with the "river" crowd. Maybe I've graduated to the old people lake mead/Powell style crowd🤔

I'm hustling but my disposable income isn't disposable anymore and I've been having to play with the toys I already have😅. No 100k trucks or 300k boats are in my future that I can see.

So true. The irony and glass house ownership here is hilarious.

Lower River Outboards and SoCal Jetboats have a lot of young boaters out having a blast, fun peeps to hang out with. I'm 61 and love seeing the young boaters having fun, the bikinis are nice too! A jet boat is in my future for sure, love the simplicity and the sound, someday I may grow up. Not soon though.

I don’t get where these young guys are getting these 2-3-400k wakeboard boats.. the price tags are insane
I just read an article about a 20something year old Arizona girl & her boyfriend leaving their daily jobs to live outside of the states in paradise-like places, islands, etc. all funded by Amazon stores they buy & sell stuff through....she mentioned they cleared $200k income this past year. It literally read like they never even physically touch the merch they sell, it's just a 3rd party shipment process.

Parents, Weed, or OnlyFans. I'm Serious.

You'd be shocked at how much OnlyFans "creators" make. Mommy/Daddy money is a real thing. There is a metric shit-ton of money in Havasu that most of us can't fathom. Buying little Johnny a 400k Pavati is like me buying a snickers.

Some finance, but not the norm.

I wondered as well. I spoke to a group at the sandbar and they were in the boat together.

$1,000 -$1,500 a month per person even for 2 is doable if thats your priority.

Thats only 22k gross a year to handle it.
LOL are there any 5 figure public employees left in CA?

Yup, my neighbor and fellow class mate just popped up on my social media. He is now living in Texas with a big house and a multi million dollar car collection at 28 years old. All thanks to Amazon.

What shocks me is the number of folks paying the $$ to watch OnlyFan videos. WTF.

Folks need to get outside more vs watching screens!

Boating takes a lot of time and effort. The pictures are far different from the experience.

Boat, truck, or trailer could have an issue at any time. Even if you have money, you still have to figure out how to get your broken shit to someone who can fix it.

Is the next generation willing to put in the effort and have they been taught to put in the physical work to fix things?

My parents had good money but didn't come from a ton. So when my dad was cleaning the pool filter, building an attic in the garage, replacing baseboards, etc., he would say you're helping me and learning this. I was 14 when we got a boat and wanted to learn how to do everything and help as much as possible.

Is the younger generation handy and willing or too much screen time and TV? I really don't have much interaction with the 18-25 group, so I don't know.

But I will say this, in SoCal, I notice that some of them want houses and location is a priority. That puts them in savings mode for awhile because OC ain't cheap.

My boys are a little young but I can see them getting involved in lake life. Also depends on where they go to school. They have gotten really into sailboat racing. I can see them traveling the world and racing with different regattas even into there 20s 30s and on. Kind of like my dad being into street rods and muscle cars. I like them but do different but similar hobbies.

Ok
Your looking at it different
You don’t need a new 100k van
But that’s what we are told we want
Young people still can go to lake or river
With very little money
An older e350 12-20 k for van and they can buy my cp outboard for 15 k that sips gas and runs all day long .

That’s how we started . how my parents started
Simple life Simple times
maybe thats not the normal anymore
But there are thousands of people still camping along the lake or river
Hell we are still camping along the river

I understand that. Someone could do all this for under $20k if they wanted to. Few want to do it at that level I think is the point of the thread.

I’ve read countless posts here that said their fondest memories are camping in the family camper in the back of their truck.. these same people now have a Diesel pusher, enclosed trailer and $100k in toys just to go camp in the dirt.

People’s standards have just changed.

A 21’ boat is barely even considered useable on Havasu anymore 😂

We're are out there. The hustle is much harder, and more expensive to participate then it used to be. Cost of entry is much higher.

38years haven't missed a beat.

Mom/Dad have a nice Hallett 240 in the Family Trust. I don't need to buy a boat right now. I just contribute when/where I can on the current boat.

I bought both my trucks myself, to have a family hauler/tow vehicle.

We introduce our 2year old to 'The River' as much as possible, he will be a boater for sure! He recognizes boats and crispy V8's and says "vroom" when he sees/hears them.

I will definitely be a river rat until I can't. Hoping the same for my offspring.

Not everyone wants to come into the lounge and go toe-to-toe with the braintrust. The entertainment value for me is watching you all go at it. Similar to being holed up in a quiet cove while the mayhem ensues out on the lake. Watchin' peacefully from the side lines.

There are definitely other media outlets that aren't RDP, where our age group get their off the water fix. This is a niche forum for sure. Could be aging out, it is an interesting observation. I don't see it happening, the next generation is out there, maybe just not in here 24/7.

Homes today don’t have enough room to store our toys. Most can’t even fit a pickup truck in the driveway, and have no yard to store anything.

Those camping along the river are the homeless population. 😉

The lifestyle will not go away, the type of crowd this site attracts will. Its a very different site from when I joined almost 13 years ago. I was 30 back then. There was bickering of course but not to the extent is at now. Things that are said on hear constantly about the younger generation deters them. One thing about the younger generation is they do tend to stay away from certain negativity. Its about the balance for them. This site is not appealing for them, why hang on a site that hates your generation or your type of boat (Wakeboard boats) ? The reality is, you older guys with the high performance boats are the minority in the boating world. Maybe things will change. You never know.

I think about it everyday believe me. I am trying to appeal to the younger crowd via the clothing right now, which is why we are running leggings / joggers / more appealing designs to younger girls etc.

As you said forums are a bit different for todays youth, but we rank so stupid high with google that we get a constant inflow of 100+K people a month which is what has helped this place maintain and even grow over the years when everyone else died when FB and IG etc boomed.

Just this morning I talked to a guy from Florida looking to buy intake scoops for the 450R's. He had seen it somewhere googled it and randy corson's thread popped #1 on rdp.. now he's ordering 3 sets, and possibly coming to SuperCat and Desert Storm this year. He has a 36 concept CC that runs 93 mph and he's working towards 100 mph.. Not to get side tracked, I'm just saying that's how the place is "seeded".
