@CLdrinker and others in the thread have given the same advice "don't be afraid to take some gains" keeping the stock is also a gamble. if it starts tanking someday in the future you're going to sell it anyway.

I purchased Apple when it split many years ago to $93 and when that stock doubled I took half of it down and let the house money ride. I continue to take some gains down and reinvest back into VTSAX ( for diversification ) which is a total stock market index fund that pays a nice dividend. With all that said congratulations on your success I love seeing people make money off these type of things it will so cool if you actually make the money.

If your in nvidia makes up more than 10% of your net worth then sell some if it's less then that have fun and enjoy the ride.

Enjoy the ride

Right now……. I am waiting for the earnings report that is soon to be released. We will make decisions then.

Of course we are thinking of cashing out some. Mainly because we see that it appears to be overvalued at the present time because of the current frenzy. It’s due a correction.

Analysts are predicting it goes to $800 per share. When it reaches that milestone, we will most likely take some gains.

We are currently researching which “future markets” we are going to throw the gains.

Personally, I'd consider retiring if my NVIDIA was worth $3MM (plus the money I already have). I'd definitely have to break a large chunk off to diversify and create a security blanket.

If it represents a nice 'bonus', rather than a life changing event, then maybe buy something, go on a vacation, look for other possible investments.

I am curious….. If you had a 3 million dollar windfall, what would you do with it?

Nothing, really.

I've no problem spending now that I'm retired. I'd love to spend it down to zero - seems a waste not to.

But I've finally accepted that a second home and most toys are more hassle than fun for me.

I've come around to accepting that I don't have to do anything with it if I don't want to.

So don't feel pressure to buy a bigger boat (or anything else) if you know it'll really only mean a bigger headache.

Holding for the last 11 years has been a good move so far?

Look at the 11 year graph, when would you have sold? It went down many many times. But we held!

Sure, it will certainly plateau again for a while. Probably even spend a few months going back down. We’ve seen that before. But for us, good things have happened by having Diamond Hands. lol We don’t have Paper Hands. But we are lucky. Our existence does not depend on Nvidia. It’s just something that turned out to be the best investment we ever made.

At closing yesterday, I was up another 100k, from the day before.

If it goes to $1500 per share, my 19k turns into more than 6 million. I am inclined to see if that happens. That’s the high on some predictions, but most are around a $1000 per share, right now. Some are predicting another split, soon. We will see.

Right now I am just enjoying the ride.

My wife sent me a link to the new WorldCat 325 DC. I am guessing that’s a hint.

One last thing………. My wife and I owe our success to Motley Fool. We originally learned about the stock in their newsletter, that you have to subscribe too. We also took some of their online classes, just before we purchased Nvidia. We learned basic trading in their online classes. So far, that education has paid off. Currently at 3 million reasons why and counting. Thank You Motley Fool.

I totally appreciate your outlook on it. And by all means you’ve won ten times over. You have brass balls lol.

I guess my question is what’s the number? If they crush earnings and just for fun double their value. Are you done then?

This goes back to @Cole Trickle post.

There has to be an end goal here. Whether that’s a toy barn, yacht, new home on the water etc. You already posted that Bear Sterns took you for 6 figures. You’re gaining 6 figures a day right now, but losing millions would be a punch in the nuts.

I’m not trying to be negative and I hope they trade at 2k a year from now. I’m just bringing up the fact that you turned I think 10k into 3 million.

As wall street bets says….. if it’s good enough for a screen shot then you should sell. This seems like a screen shot moment.

Also I’ve never understood people freaking out about tax implications. Of course you’re going to pay, but not taking a profit because of that is stupid (imo). You’re paying one way or the other lol.

Mine as well enjoy the gains!

How much more of a headache would the 32 be over your 23?

Much? Not much?

Or is it owning any boat that seems more headache than fun?

I truly hear what you are saying. Trust me I do.

For 11 years we have had hold mentality. The last 6 weeks is changing our thinking. But we have made no decisions. But it is the only thing we are currently discussing. We are thinking of pulling out a percentage of Nvidia, and then throwing that at some of stocks that Motley Fool is currently pitching as a Nvidia type future. Remember, it’s all the “house’s” money at this point.

Under things we are thinking. We had already planned on doing the World Cruise, when my wife retires, on Regent Cruise Lines. Currently the World Cruise is 100k per person for a standard cabin. We would be upgrading to a Penthouse. Maybe even get the Penthouse with the jacuzzi on the balcony. Just an idea.

I gotta run. Going boating

I guess I just don't understand the though processes of not enjoying the fruits of your labor.

A lot of financial planners I’ve talked to say one of their biggest challenges is getting clients to spend money in retirement. Even an appropriate, conservative amount of money. Frugality and savings become such a big part of some people’s identity that they can’t ever switch gears.

Some wealthy people struggle to spend money on things that would make them happy because “I’m a saver” becomes such an ingrained part of their identity. What you intended to be a strategy to achieve a better life turns into an ideology you are beholden to.

Sometimes I think about all the things I don’t want in my next boat, mainly for simplicity.

I don’t want air conditioning, a generator, a grill, inverter, etc. Mainly because that stuff breaks and is expensive to fix.

I am fighting my own demons. Having a boat 24/7 on a boat lift is both a blessing and a curse. Sometimes, I just hate it. But, I’ve invested so much to be where I am now, that it would be stupid to bail out.

Lately, I have been boat shopping. I love my current boat, but my wife would like to upgrade. Even though boats are a pain in the ass, I am actually planning on purchasing 2 boats, once my toy condo is built. A Bahamas boat, and an intracoastal cruiser.

Tomorrow, which is most likely today for the reader, I am meeting with a boat lift manufacturer. I am preparing to purchase a 20,000lb platform elevator boat lift. This will allow me to purchase just about any boat……. That I want. Estimated cost, 50k to 60k. (It’s super upgraded) This is the first step needed, in order to purchase a bigger boat.

I am not sure what the next bigger boat is……… but I have fallen in love with a Walker Bay 22’ Revo. @SJP got me into looking seriously at RIBS. His is awesome. I really enjoyed helping him find his boat. It got me looking for one for myself. But I need a toy condo, in order to have 2 boats. The 22’ Revo has a head, for my wife. It’s the only small rib I’ve ever seen with this feature.

Dont hold me to the above, I played trivia tonight at local sports bar, and I’ve drank at least a 6 pack, maybe more! Lol

One last thing…….. I am still super happy with Nvidia, it bounced back in after hours trading. The report gave it a great future. I am glad that in 11 years, I have yet to fold my hand. I truly believe that my 19k investment will surpass 4 million in the near future. I probably still won’t sell if that happens. Lol

Can't keep both at the dock?

If not, why the need for the bigger boat lift?

The intracoastal cruiser is the one you'd want available.

Pull the (expensive) Bahamas boat out from the toy condo only when you need it.

It's better protected there, and easier to cover the cruiser.

So far…….. I am up 320k, since yesterday. Based on the above.

I am guessing it will close lower than the above graph today, at closing time. But it’s still a fun ride!

I just can’t fit the 2 I want.

A 22’ outboard boat and a 32’ outboard boat are actually 58’ long with out boards in the down position. If those motors were tilted back, it would be 62’ with one boats bow, right on top of other boat. I only have 60’ of dock.

I also want to boat like I did when I had a home at Parker. I would only pull out whatever item or items from my storage that I planned on using that weekend. I eventually had 3 storage units in Parker, at the same time.

I am looking forward to keeping all my toys in my storage condo and only bringing them out when I plan on using them. I am also looking forward to looking at an empty boatlift every time we get a storm or windy weeks.

Right now……… I can tell that a Pelican dropped a turd on my bow this morning. Figures, since I cleaned the boat yesterday! Lol

Here is a couple of pics of the rib I like……..

Nvidia has been on a tear. I looked at last summer and thought it was over priced lol.

I highly suggest you take some profits. All of the money you made isn’t money until it’s in your pocket.

At the very least I would be taking out double whatever you put in. Then keep an eye on it like a hawk and start selling chunks if it dips.
And maybe reinvest it in the next Nvidia. Finding the next up and comer is the trick.

After my STELLAR day today, it’s fun to re-read this thread.

Those of you that learned of my nvidia story and advised me to sell………. All I can say is I am glad I didn’t follow your advice.

My 19k investment at closing today was…………. $3,141,520 (I actually have a few more shares through dividends, but I am rounding off to 4000 shares, just to make the math simple)

My wife and I just dancing around the house. Life is good!

Wow, that’s awesome, congrats. You get something like this once in a lifetime. We’ve got a small position too, and it was good to see them lift the whole market.

The question I have is when is someone going to come in and compete with them? My wife and I watch the market all of the time and haven’t heard any discussion about this. You can’t keep 70% margins forever without drawing competition. For example, I’ve heard MFST is partnering with another company to start developing these AI chips too. How long will NVDIA enjoy this moat?

Would be interesting to hear from some of the tech guys here as to how long NVDIA can own this market. It won’t last forever, but per their CEO Jensen Huang, the whole addressable market is huge, so it may not matter as much. For now, enjoy the ride!!
